South Beach Dieters......... Unite

I'm glad to know you are feeling better. My easter dinner will consist of deviled eggs, low carb cornbread dressing, turkey, brocolli, cabbage, green beans (I always load up on veggies) cheesecake with a crust made from almond flour and an almond flour pound cake. All within the limits with plenty of room for fun!!!!!

Are you a creative cook or do you have a snazzy cook book? I'd love to know how to make a low carb cornbread dressing or an almond flour crusted cheese cake. Sounds delicious! :stir:

I wish I was some great cook. I got Dana Carpenter's book which has some great receipes in it. Especially cheesecakes and other desserts. I also use the web as a great source of information. Ther are so many low carb forums out there I also buy a lot of my low carb items online from a store called netrition. They have great stuff. They sell differnent brands of low carb cornbread. I then just make it according to the directions and then make my cornbread dressing as usual. For a cheesecake, if you think about it, it is already pretty much lower carb. Use splenda for the sugar and everything else sould be legal. You can find almond flour anywhere including target! I've seen it in lot's of grocery stores. It is pricy, but it is great. Have you looked at the receipe board here on the top, they have this three minute chocolate cake that is GREAT!! made out of almond flour, unsweetened cocoa, butter, and things like that and then make it in the micowave. Add some whipped cream and what a great quick dessert! This is how I have survived on this plan so long. I have just found some wonderful things to make to eat so that I never feel bored or deprived. Let me know if you want my links to these wonderful sources!!!

Boy, do I want those links! I appreciate your offer. I'm trying make this an inviting plan for Steve, too, but he's still on the fence because he loves things like cornbread... :thumbsup2

You're welcome! This is what has helped me stay on track al this time. I hope you can find plenty to keep you on track.............

Hey there all.... just wanted to check in to say WOW.. what a great way to live this is... I am in the middle of my 2nd week of phase 1 and I am down 8lbs already... and really have only gotten bored with the food choices a few times.. but have stuck it out... I really feel that my cravings are dwindling... except that I am all of a sudden craving a glass of wine?!? Weird.. as I haven't had one in over a year! DUH!.. I stopped drinking when I started my weight loss/health journey... and I never picked it up again... even when I would cheat food wise... so, I don't understand that one... Anyway... I Just wanted to check in.. and ask... any helpful beginning phase 2 suggestions?

Thanks!

Kathy

Kathy, wtg on sticking it out. All I can say is start slowly into phase 2. Be very careful about the choices that you make. Your weight will slow down (I didn't add to many grains in my diet until I was closer to goal) If you are not exercising, this would be a good time to add it in and it will help with the weight loss. Check out some of the threads I posted above. Great receipes that will help with the plan.

Anytime!!! I have been looking at the lowcarbfriends website all day and have come up with some great dinners for the rest of the week!

Way to go Valentine ! It really is a great plan !

I'm going to do Phase 1 again to get myself back into gear - had a great vacation indulging in whatever I pleased and now it's time to get back on track !

Yeah.. well.. that is what I am fearful of doing... I leave for Disney on the 4th.. and I have all good intentions as of now to keep myself on track.. but you know what happens when you get there!! LOL!! I will be on Phase 2 by then.. so, I will be able to have some grains and fruits... so.. that will be a bit easier... We will see! LOL!! Otherwise... you will see me right back on Phase 1 when I get back! UGH!

Kathy

If you go to the buggets, finding foods is easy. Have a bag of popcorn or some fruit. Of course diet soda's and if you use splenda, ask for it, Disney has it. For breakfast of course there are eggs and things like that. Ask for whole wheat waffles, pancakes and sugar free syrup. Believe it or not, they will make it for you fresh!!! Veggies can be added to anything. Sugar free desserts are available (including ice cream) It is doable. I haven't cheated yet. However, not having real sugar or potatoes and fries or pasta for over 2 years, it all taste weird to me and how ill I get afterwards is so not worth it It is doable, just think of all the things you can eat and enjoy yourself.

Maybe I'll list restaurants I go to that is great for this way of eating!

I am a big fan of SBD. I have fallen off the wagon (more than once!) but I do get back on. For the most part, I have been successful. I have about 10 last pounds to go. And honestly, I think the only way they will come off is with exercise. So that is my plan for the summer.

However, here is my dilemma: ever since having such great success on Phase I, I have become TERRIFIED of fruit! Yes, that's right...grapes scare the bejeebers out of me now!

When adding in "good carbs," I am such a grain freak, that I want to save all of my good carbs for some multi-grain bread, or occassionally a (very small) portion of whole grain pasta, etc. So then when I see fruit, I think "well, I have already a fair amount of healthy carbs today, so I really shouldn't have any more..."

Thoughts? Advice?

3disneykids, I wish I could. I haven't had fruit in ages!!! I get all of my carbs from veggies. I have always prefered veggies to fruits even when I was a child. I do know that if you look in his little carb handbook, so fruits are prefered over others. I know that berries have a lower carb count than the rest. See I'm not a berry person, so when I saw that my favs were higher in carbs, I've just left them out. Now I do get my carbs from veggies and whole and I do mean whole grains. The only advice I have is to maybe not eat them everyday. How about once a week or so. I know the fear. However, for me it is not a necessity in my diet.

Well, at least I'm not the only one! LOL Truly, I am like you and can go without for the most part, however....it just seems strange to me that some cheese is better for me than fruit.

I am a vegetarian (we eat dairy, though, and certain fish...but no beef/pork/poultry, etc. at all), so I love veggies and have no problem getting my intake of those. And I have managed to find lots of non-meat protein sources.

But I gotta say...it just feels plain wrong to look at a fruit plate and say "that is not good for me..."

I don't look at it and say that it is wrong for me, I do say there are some things that are a better choice. Now that is really weird. That's why I justify it by eating veggies!!! :goodvibes :teeth: I know that veggies have the same vitamins and minerals in them, they just don't cause me to gain weight. I can have more veggies than I can have of fruit for the same amount of carbs. Works for me. I get fuller off of those veggies anyway. Same thing goes for cheese. It fills me up. And since I LOVE CHEESE! Well ya know. I think it is just for the individual. All of my blood works is wonderful and my weight has stayed down, so fruit....................just goes off my list.

I am a 29+10 yr old female with three boys - the two I gave birth to and the one I married. My youngest is 5. I am about 50 some odd lbs overweight. I bought a treadmill last year and have been using it pretty consistantly for the past month after I recovered from 3 weeks of bronchitis. I eat what I thought was fairly well, but the weight is NOT budging.

Went to my doctor yesterday (I have blood pressure issues too), and brought all this up. She recommended SBD. She said you don't have to follow their menus - who has time for a mushroom/asparagus omlet in the morning?? but to read the book to understand the good carb and the gylcemic index. This is especially important to someone like me who has the family history of diabetes and heart disease. So here I go!!

My first question is....do you HAVE to do phase 1???? I mean, I understand it is to help rid your body of cravings and jump start the weight loss, but I remember it being very hard and making me feel very sick. Any comments?

TIA

My vote is YES for phase one. It is really only the first few days that are brutal. I felt a bit queasy at first, too (thought I was pg again! LOL), but that was gone by Day 4. Then I really lost SO MUCH during phase I that it motivated me to stay on it. If I had not had that great success so early on, I would have given up.

Really, you get so used to it after the first week, that the second is no big deal.
