Hi All
Interested in giving south beach a try, need to get serious and loose some weight. I see that you can do the on-line diet or purchase the book. Any suggestions about the diet and which route may be better for a first timer. Thanking you in advance for the help.

Hi Mackeyapp

I'm actually fairly new to the SB lifestyle, but I wanted to let you know that there is a thread out there that most SB'ers have wandered thru one time or another started by sm4987 (shree'). It's full of some good advice, and is a great way to get answers to ?'s So. Beach thread

As for me I started the SB by checking the book out from the library, reading/studying it for a couple of weeks, then actually doing it!
HTH.

READ THE BOOK!!!

Sorry, to be blunt but I feel reading the entire book was a major key to this diet working for me. I lost & have kept off 50lbs with south beach. You will love it, but I really think you need to understand the "why" behind the food choices it requires. It helps with the mental aspect of losing weight.

I had the online subscription for about 9 months. It was great for getting recipes, but I didn't find it very helpful in motivation support. Everyone seemed like a bunch of whiners. I got much more support from my WISHers. So be aware going in that there are a lot of people online who complain about some aspect of it. But without a doubt if you commit to the plan it will work.

Life is great on the beach, enjoy it!!!

Thanks to both of you for the advice. I plan to head out tomorrow and get the Book. I am a reader at heart but didn't want to dismiss the on line option without some advice from others to have been down that road. I will continue to read from the WISH discussion forum-lots of interesting reads. :thumbsup2 Monday will be start day for me with 2DS's off to school, wish me luck.

I was going to say the same thing. Read the book. I did both, but the book worked better for me. Plus there are so many free resources on the web, why pay!!!

Thanks Jill, Dena and Sheree. :wave2: It's Friday, I have 9 little boys outside playing (school starts here on Monday) and yes I still plan to get that BOOK before the day is out. When DH gets home I am off to the book store to find a copy. I will be busy reading over the weekend and getting our 2DS out the door to school Monday and finally getting a Break!!

When I did it a few years ago, I did it online. It worked great for me. It kept me on track. I also had the book, but to me, the book was a one time read and that was it. Online, it gives you a daily menu, a grocery list you can print out, and a support group. I did great w/ my support group. After I got preg. I quit the board. When I started back up, I went to the Prevention South Beach Board which was o.k. I also didn't do as well. So, I joined the SBD board again, but 2nd time around I haven't been checking it every day, so not really helping me out. The good thing about being on the board on SBD is that you click on the site every day, and remember all the GREAT things you should be eating. Honestly when I'm "on the beach" I eat so much more than when I'm not, and still lose weight. Amazing.

I'd recommend doing the board at the beginning, then once you are in the swing of things, just do the W.I.S.H. board. You can always do both.
