Sounds Dangerous (with Drew Carey)

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the Monster Sound Stage attraction. I would make my family go over and over until I was picked to do the Foley effects. I was a child when I saw this saw and I'm convinced it helped shape my interest in film and now I'm a filmmaker.

Anyways, I've never seen Sounds Dangerously. How does it differ from the original? Not to hijack the thread - just curious. I've been meaning to ask and then I saw this post!!

There's no live effects or anything--it's just a movie that for a few minutes in the middle goes black, and the directional sound in your headphones is supposed to be good enough to make up for it. Almost exactly like the headphones demo in the Sound Works playground afterwards.

Well, there is one.
Although I see that a CM who worked there said that it quit working toward the end of this attraction's life.

Pretty much, yes.

I never saw that, but it sounds awesome, definitely better than the Drew Carey attraction. I guess he was really big for a while there in the nineties...

Yes, he was really big in the nineties. He's a lot thinner now...:lmao:

[/B]1. Has anyone else had this experience? Do you know if the problem has been resolved since last fall?

2. Was I being nit-picky, or is it a valid complaint?
1. I don't know. It's been so long since I bothered going in there...and I don't think I'd have noticed, anyway.

2. If you're right, it is valid. If you aren't, it isn't. Either way, it is about an 8.6 out of 10 on the Nitpickometer.

I've seen somewhere recently that Sounds Dangerous has been closed permanently (and it signage removed). It will at least be closed for the rest of this year.

That's too bad. DD (9) saw this (and Captain Eo) for the first time last winter and :lovestrucLOVED:lovestruc it. She will be very sad to know that she won't get to see it again. She really didn't like Captain Eo, so she won't be sad to see that go.

We experienced the attraction in November 2010 as well, due to Star Tours being closed for refurb. Like the OP said, the audio was mixed, so the same audio played in both sides of the headset. This shouldn't be a big deal, but when the whole show hinges on the binaural audio, and that isn't working, what do you really have left? When the family and I tried out the sound booths, the audio in them was the way it should be, and I told them 'See! This is what it was supposed to be like during the show!'. I understand that it was a fill in to draw crowds while Star Tours was closed, but it was still disappointing that they didn't have the one important thing, the audio, working correctly.

By the way, Touringplans.com shows that this attraction is being refurbished from 10/30/2011 thru 11/18/2011. Does anyone know what is happening? That isn't long enough to be changing to a new attraction, and I can't imagine them spending two weeks refurbishing an attraction that is never open. Very interesting....

We saw "Sounds Dangerous" years ago, and really enjoyed it. Thought the movie was amusing. A minor attraction, sure, but definitely cute.

But then our whole family happens to like Drew Carey, even the kids. He's doing a great job with the Price is Right. I'm sorry we (probably) won't be able to see the show while we're there!

The problem with Sounds Dangerous is that (when it's open) it's presented as though it were at least a second-tier attraction at the studios, and that sets people up for disappointment. It's really more of a minor diversion, like Song of the Rainforest at AK, and works fine at that level.

But to the extent that its features are not working correctly, particularly the binaural effects, it certainly does deserve its criticism.
