Sorry to bring up again, but does anyone feel like me? How do I get past this?

I really feel very upset about this election. I don't mean that it wasn't fair, but I honestly felt that Bush needed to go. I felt it very strongly!!

How do I get past this? How can I feel I'm being spoken for or represented in this country? This is one of the worst days I can remember.....:(

If you voted you spoke for yourself. Unfortunately, the majority of the country didn't agree with you. That's life, sometimes. Harsh realities are always the most difficult to swallow.

I feel your pain, though. I'd have been crushed if the President lost.

I suggest we all move forward and try to work together to strengthen our great country and win the war against fear.

Yes, it is very disapointing. Just keep giving a voice to the issues that you believe in. Keep supporting your causes. Do you live in area where you feel like most people think like you? I get solace in the fact that my area is pre-dominantly liberal. I have a lot of people in real life to commiserate with.

If you ever feel really down about it, pm me.:sunny:

I'm pro bush but I really feel for Kerry fans today. But I truly believe that out of all our elected officials the president has the least power. Be involved in your local issues, participate in state elections, etc. This is where change really happens. The only concern I had over this recent election is the supreme court appointments.

Last night I was so filled with rage and helplessness that I actually started understanding how the suicide bombers feel...the situation is so bad, and there is absolutely nothing I can do to change it. I can see how a more radical (and impoverished and hopeless) person would go nuts when experiencing such feelings and use violence to express himself.

That's pretty sick. I suggest you seek counseling asap.

When I get really frustrated about something (I'm the type A personality) my laid back DH recites the serenity prayer to me.

There's that part about accepting things you cannot change. You did your part. You can work for your party and its candidates in the future. You now look forward and don't drive yourself crazy with stuff you cannot control. There's no point in making yourself sick over it.

Good luck.

As stated, you spoke with your vote. I am sorry you are so upset. But, I always try and find something good. No matter how minute. I personally voted Bush, but if Kerry had won, I would have understood that this is how the majority wanted it, and you just need to work to make sure he does a good job for us.

Hope your day goes better..

Let me offer some help, honestly:

Odds are that Kerry would have continued to conduct the efforts in Iraq about the same way that Bush will.

We aren't going to invade anyone else anytime soon, Bush's political capital account is overdrawn for the a long time to come.

There won't be a draft... It's a political 3rd rail that no one's going to touch.

There isn't going to be a "2nd Patriot Act". John Ashcroft isn't plotting to take away your civil rights.

Roe v. Wade ain't going away as far as I can see.

Also, honestly go read this... It's called "The Liberal Case For Bush": http://www.techcentralstation.com/100704B.html
It was part of a two part series, the other being "A Hawkish Case For Kerry:

I am having the same feelings as you. I just don't understand how this could have happened. My stomach has been in knots, I'm on the verge of tears, and I am terrified of what the next four years will now bring. You're not alone. :grouphug:

The best thing you can do is start putting your efforts into electing someone who is more aligned with your views. Whether the winner in an election is your candidate or not, you should actually be proud to have put the effort in and made your voice heard. The vote is just part of the process. Write letters to your representitives and senators and speak your mind clearly and without malice. Let them hear from you often, that may help you feel better.

Very good advice. If there are causes you feel very strongly about, continue to support them. :)

I think that the issues which were really important in this election and the differing opinions of the candidates will figure into the President's thoughts and actions over the next 4 years. Even if Kerry didn't win, he certainly got enough votes so that his views should be taken seriously by the current administration. Your vote was not in vain.

That's very disturbing. :(

Win the war against fear? We saw the towers fall, we'll never be able to stop the truly insane, so why don't we focus on winning that war in Iraq where our Marines are getting blown up, instead? Just what exactly is a win, over there, anyway? We've got Saddam ... what did W think he was going to do, build a new government? We can't even get control over Newark, NJ, and we thought we'd build a new government in Iraq? How stupid is he?

I am getting over it by going to WDW next month and being thankful that by living in this country I have that ability.

When I get home, I'm going to start looking into what I can do over the next four years to help fight for the rights and issues in which I believe.

I'm sorry you feel so down...take some time to grieve. And then accept what the majority has decided. Don't forget there's an election in just four years! :)

Maybe you can look at some of the good things Bush has done for us. And what he's proposed for the future.

What I find pretty sad about the situation is that only 17% of the 18-34 population voted. THAT'S pretty pathetic. Maybe next election you can help get people to the polls!

I cried myself to sleep last night, as well.

I know that in a few hours I will be surrrounded by friends that are disappointed as well, and that always makes me feel better. In the meantime, I am trying to not think about it too much.

*hugs*

I felt the same way about the Yankees but got over it in a few days.
