we are a group of friends who have booked together they consist of 1 room 2 adult 2 little ones 2nd room 1 adult 1 teen and 1 adult sharing ok we wnat to do ADRs but want to know if the big tip they add on is compulsory as we will be paying our own bills as per family and would pay seperately but would tip well for good service rather than being told w had to regardless please help we are not being mean we just like tipping because we want too
You have a party of 7, no Disney doesn't add on a big tip but rather a normal service charge of 18%. The fact that some people think it's a big tip is one of the reasons for the automatic charge.
Disney does add 18% to any party size of six and over. However, there's nothing that says you can't tip more (just add it to the bill). If your service is less than great and you would normally tip less because of that, ask to speak to a manager and tell him/her WHY the service wasn't up to par. That's the only way the restaurant will know there was a problem.

You can still pay separately and have the tip be spread out equally. I would imagine that the POS system Disney uses would just separate the check and the tip would be reflective of your personal cover. IE you would pay 18% of what you ordered, you would not have to tip on food and drinks that others consumed.

Yeah the tip is actually added on at the end so they would just seperate out the items and then add the 18% to each check based on the check amount. It is always best to give the waiter a heads up at the start that you will be splitting the check but the likelihood is that you will still get the grat added. It isn't the servers rules its the company's and most of the staff would rather not have automatic grat anyway as this goes in to their pay cheques so they have to wait to get the tip rather than cash that they get then and there. If you tell the server the way that the check needs to be split to begin with it just means that they can have it split and ready to go when the time comes. Working out who had what on what check after the event depending on how you write out your orders can be difficult so this way they know to ensure that they keep the individual records accurate (i.e. you enter the items by seat number so if you are in a hurry you may put a soup with seat 1 then cheese plate seat 2 with the main courses being steak seat 1 and fish seat 2 however at the end of the meal if these two wanted to split the bill but in reality seat 1 had the fish then you would have to cancel the item from seat 2 and reorder on seat 1 and vice versa, telling the chef not to make the reordered items, which is a bit more hassel especially if you are busy or the kitchen is manic).
