MEK, what a scary situation with Denny and I am glad you persisted in having him checked out further. I went through that with Mark and it is not fun.

Thanks Kathy! I know you have been through this because I remember you mentioning it. Denny is doing fine. He is just a little "gun shy" right now. I think he will feel better after he sees the cardiologist here which is scheduled for tomorrow.

Wow Mary Ellen, how scary the events with Denny at HHI! I am so glad this issue was right in your area of expertise and you were able to push it to resolution! I'm guessing those less informed would have probably taken the original clean check-off and left happy, with possibly tragic results later! So glad they were able to handle the situation and you could still enjoy some of your trip!!!

I really hope that never happens to anyone. Really. I am pretty sure we just would have been back in the ED. But I would hate to think that we would be back with an actual heart attack. I knew he wasn't haven't a heart attack. He was having angina, so to send me out of there meant nothing.

Nice updates and some great pictures! Even though during the day I don't think DHS is all that much to look at aesthetically, I think it is a whole lot better when it is lit up at night and just seems to come alive!

I am so happy we were there late at night and took the time to get all those pictures. I think that was my first late EMH. I always figured it would be much too crowded, but it really wasn't. It was perfect.

I really like that picture of the Brown Derby Hat lamp!

I always enjoy exploring One Man's Dream, and no matter how many times I go in there I always seem to learn something new!

I love OMD and my younger son loves it more than I do. He could seriously spend 90 minutes in there looking at every detail. It's truly a wonderful place and its sad its not more popular. I think the film is a must see.

Oh my gracious Mary Elllen! I know that you had to be scared death. Thank goodness you stood your ground and made them admit Denny. I think that's pretty rude of them to make a notation that you were anxious. Of course you were anxious. Your husband was having chest pains.

When I read your comment a few days ago I thought to myself "Thank you!" I have an 11 hour drive home with a man who is having exertional chest pain and I have to get on the phone and find someone to stress or cath him then pack up a villa that I've been in 36 hours. Doh!

And quite honestly. I don't think I acted anxious. She hasn't seen ANXIOUS! I would call it forceful and tactful. Errrrrr! She was young, that's the only thing I can say in her defense.

Once when John had a grand mal seizure and his trough levels were way down, the ER doctor tried to discharge him saying that his levels were in the average range. I tried to tell them what his level needed to be and they wouldn't listen to me. I finally told them that we would sit in the middle of the ER waiting room in a wheelchair and let everybody know what they had done unless they called his neurologist immediately. Needless to say, they had us in a room in no time at all AND his neurologist was called.

Good for you, but how unfortunate that you had to do that. I always try to listen to someone who has been dealing with a chronic disease. They have the most experience managing it and at that point its "textbook versus real life". I feel like the ER really has this mentality of treat em and street em. Sometimes it was too obvious and these are both good examples.

Mary Ellen-- scary with Denny at HHI. Glad you stood your ground and had him admitted and that he was able to get the care he needed. I like your comment-Genes rule--That's a good one to remember.

Thanks! I am glad he was admitted and everything worked out without the added stress of having to leave and return.

I guess if you somehow don't inherit the genes you are in good shape, but it you do get the coronary artery disease gene you really have to pay attention.

Cynthia--Love your first picture of MK, all decorated with its fall decorations. The sky is so blue--looks like it was a beautiful, last day!

OMG - The fall decorations at the MK are so absolutely perfect. I totally agree.

Getting myself caught up on your TR and just read your story about Denny's ordeal and I just had to comment before I kept going.

Wow! So glad he is OK and he only needed angio with a stent! It's definitely good he had you as an advocate for him, almost anyone else would have just gone home like a good patient and "resumed activity" and who knows?...

I am very happy that he only needed a stent because the alternative was very terrifying. He may need heart surgery at some point in his life, but HHI definitely wasn't the time.

That's good you were at least able to extend your vacation so you could enjoy some of it.

That worked out really well and I just finished uploading all my photos. I certainly made up for lost time. I think I took about 750 post stent.

I really do believe though he bought himself at least a decade by taking such good care of himself. Were they able to resolve with one stent or did he end up with more?

He had one stent and, yes, I agree that he bought himself extra time. He is just upset because he was the "first" out of his 4 other siblings and he is the one who exercises the most. Bottom line is - they don't know what their coronary anatomy is and now he does.

You would think but I swear (and you know we are going through this every 6 months or so know) some things that seem obvious to us the family, just for whatever reason aren't obvious to some of the healthcare givers we encounter. I mean why did we the family have to deduce that this is now a maintenance issue we will be facing every 6 months, instead of being told that it's likely the path he's on? Would have saved us a lot of stress if we knew it was actually likely his new "normal".

I don't know why communication is poor in health care. Sometimes the provider is a poor communicator, sometimes their knowledge is lacking so they are afraid of having to answer too many questions they feel unprepared for, and sometimes its literally a time crunch. Give the minimal and move on.

Accepting the "new normal" is a good way to phrase it.

And apparently not only are there 2 with the same color name, but the colors aren't the same. That was the part that bugs her

I don't think so. Perry is kinda cute but I'm not vested in that show at all, I'd LOVE to get Dumbo at one of those.

Yes it does drive me nuts. AS for spotting it - lets just say I started looking at crayons. It took me a while since One is the stand by line and one is on the FP line.

And the second one is NOT yellow green - it is green blue... or blue green....

They are totally NOT the same and I think you need to tell those Imagineers that they messed up - big time! I still can't believe you noticed that, so I give you major kudos for doing so.

Great updates ladies! Lots of great photos from MK and the Boardwalk. Agent P is an… interesting character to draw in the animation academy. I wonder if they didn't just start that because of the popularity of Phineas and Ferb with the young ones.

Thanks. I knew I was doing the right thing. It's just confusing when the other person, who is a health care provider, seems so unconcerned about the obvious. It was so confusing.

I'm so sorry to hear about Denny's health issues, Mary Ellen. Having to go through all that is difficult and stressful as is, I couldn't imagine having to do it while away from home and on what's supposed to be a vacation. Glad he is feeling better, now, though.

Thanks! It was stressful, especially when I thought he might need surgery. But it ended up working out as well as it possibly could given the situation. We got to extend a few days and really enjoy those last few days. I think it took Denny's mind off everything.

DHS looks really cool lit up at night as you walked to it. I don't think I've ever seen it from that view before, but it definitely showcases all the lights and "glammer" of the park.

It was really fun staying for EMH and focusing on the night time aspects of HS. I always thought EMH would be ridiculously crowded, but it actually wasn't. It was a great evening.

Mary Ellen - I am so glad Denny is O.K. Way to be an advocate for him! Although, it must have been so scary. Glad to hear he is on the road to recovery. Please wish him well for us

Thanks Rebecca - I certainly will. He is well on the road to recovery and I am glad they listened to me and admitted him. I can't imagine what would have happened had we left. I know I would not have wanted to return and the hospital actually turned out to be really good otherwise.

Disney - beautiful pics of evening at HS. I have never actually done the drawing class, but would like to. Agreed - is Agent P a character??? One of these trips I may just do the drawing class by myself as I don't think the men in my family would be interested!

The men in my family are definitely NOT interested in the drawing class. One time I tried to get Denny to go with me, but he refused. So I used the paper from two seats and drew one Pluto for me and one Pluto for him. Not sure how I ever managed to finish both of them, but I did.

Thanks Jill. My dad is definitely weak for his respiratory infection, but he is eating. His gait is just terrible. My mom really doesn't want him to go to the hospital even though I have tried to convince her that they will rehydrate him and give him antibiotics. One thing I have learned - I can't force my mom to do anything.

How bizarre, those are definitely not even close to being the same! Thanks for the pictures someone must have messed up and they didn't think it worthy of being fixed.

It is really bizarre. They probably figure no one is even going to notice. Leave it to Pat to point that out. Now we all have noticed!

Oh my, I'm glad you're able to go visit. A broken pelvis AND hip, that's scary stuff. I hope your dad is feeling better.

I knew I should go with Denny because he's seemed sort of depressed lately. I feel bad for him and his mother has had multiple, multiple medical issues this past year. It's been tough. No surgery for her - they are just treating her conservatively. Hopefully she will go to the nursing home soon.

My dad seemed a little better this morning, so we'll see. My mom is determined to care for him at home.

I thought I'd get another update up as I know Mary Ellen had a rather nutty weekend.

Before leaving on this trip I had made a list of things I really wanted to do and experience. I always think its going to be a top 10 and really what it ends up is simply a hit list by park. For MK my list was (in no particular order)

1. Opening show
2. Really look at the shops on Main Street
3. Dumbo
4. Country Bear Jamboree
5. New Fantasyland, anything thats open
6. Waffle Sandwich
7. COP
8. Tiki Room
9. Queue at HM
10. Special MNSSHP pictures (hitchhiking ghosts etc)

Generally speaking my lists are things I've never done, or havent done in a VERY long time, or have only done at DLR, never at WDW. As I finshed up with Jack, I strolled over and saw this.



Though time was getting tight, I decided to go for it.

It may be corny, it may be old school but oh did it take me back to being a child and my very first visit to Disneyland. I am SO glad I made the time to see the bears, it makes me smile just thinking about it now.

Yeah - it was little stressful, to say the least. But fortunately it all turned out fine and we even got to enjoy a little bit of our vacation. I am thankful for that.

Thanks C! I am glad that Denny actually wanted to share because it does show how easy it is to be misled. Everything we see, here, and read says go to the ED for Chest pain. And there we were and they were ready to send us home. What the heck???

Cynthia - I'm always impressed with how much you can pack into a day. . Hate departure day but agree a later flight is a nice way to ease the pain and hurrah for not having to check out of the room!

I love the late flights, but I have to say that I had earlier flights on my last two trips and it was nice to come home and not dump the suitcase in the laundry room and head right to bed.

That's exactly it - the irony. I couldn't believe it. But I think my friend C was right when he said, "would you still have gone if all this happened before we were supposed to leave?" I may have canceled all together, so I'm glad it didn't come to that.

I saw the Country Bears in '91 when I was 5 and the only thing I remember from that trip is the girl swinging from the ceiling! I've seen it again since then. Should be good for another 20 years. OK I am determined to get caught back up to Cynthia and I still need to write a little bit about our last night together.

But first I want to thank everyone for the well wishes, pixie dust, and supportive comments regarding Denny, my parents, and of course, my Maxie cat.

Here's a few updates:

First - I promised everyone I would announce Nick's college decision. After the exhaustive review of so many colleges and considering the scholarship offers, or lack there of, and tuition, Nicholas decided he will be attending University of Delaware next year.

Honestly, for what the school offers in engineering it just makes the most sense. Rowan offered him a lot of scholarship money, but we just didn't love the school. The education would have been great, but you've got to like the school. WVU had some attractive academic common market programs, but he is too unsure as to what field he wants. University of Md and Virginia Tech would require more student loans and it just doesn't seem to make sense to pay extra money for the same degree.

Right now he is back to leaning towards Electrical Engineering. UD has a 5 year masters program in EE which is pretty darn attractive. UD also has a winter session between fall and spring which would allow him to take some of his general education classes at an affordable cost.

He really liked the school when we visited during decision days and when he saw so many out of states students there I think it helped him realize that its not just a school full of Delaware residents. We also got to meet HockeyRmom (Rebecca) and her family. But, technically, according to Mark and Glen, it didn't really happen because we didn't take any pictures. Sorry Rebecca - I guess we never met.

The campus is very attractive, there is a lot more housing options, and he won't have to find off campus housing in his sophomore year.

In other news:

I think Max put on 2 or 3 lbs just since his diagnosis and since starting insulin. He has filled out nicely and his coat looks so much better. He really is acting like his old self again, only with a ravenous appetite. It's crazy.

Denny is feeling good. His BP is nice and low. He's had no chest pain and he sees the cardiologist tomorrow. I am going with him because I have the disc from his cath/stent and there are a few non-obstructive lesions I want him to comment on. I went over his disc with my surgeon and he suggested reviewing it with the cardiologist.

I spent the night at my parent's to help my mom get my dad into bed (her regular help was not available). Let's just say we didn't drop my dad on the floor, which is a good thing. I really, really think my parents need to go into assisted living but my mom has been fighting tooth and nail against it. It's a very frustrating situation.

As far as the June trip - Denny started having second thoughts about driving, so I emailed my SIL to see if her two boys would be OK with flying with us. Come to find out that my brother is having severe anxiety issues and its unlikely he will be in any shape to travel. I have suggested that my SIL call the person she is renting from and see what their options are. I don't think she is going to be able to travel without my brother because he gets very anxious when she is not near him. I thought about having Denny and I take the kids, but I know we don't want to handle four boys in the heat of the summer, especially staying off site. That's not really a vacation. And it wouldn't be right to split them up.

Now just in case you don't already think my life is a soap opera, I have one final thing I am dealing with. Several months ago I found out that the program I work with is closing at the end of June. Yup - that's right. I need to find a new job. I have had several interviews and passed up one job in favor of one that is closer to my line of work. I am still waiting to hear about that job. I am starting to have second thoughts about passing the first job up. There are several reasons why I did, but I think I should have followed my gut and taken the sure thing. I am now at a point where I have to find something. It's honestly the first time in my adult life where I haven't had a job and I'm starting to get nervous. So I appreciate your positive thoughts as it applies to my job situation.

So there you go!

Parting Ways

No, Cynthia and I haven't said goodbye yet, but we did go our separate ways this morning. Cynthia went back to MK and had a very productive morning, I might add.

I, on the other hand, went for a run to Hollywood Studios and back. And I did something rather ambitious for me. No, I didn't double my run distance or set up hurdles (that would be too ambitious). I actually stopped for a PP picture DURING my run. That's right - DURING MY RUN! There was a PP photographer outside the gates of HS and he clearly wasn't busy because park opening was still an hour away.

So I stopped. And I posed.

Quit honestly this was a risk for me because this picture could have been a disaster. But, shockingly, it wasn't.



I actually think it turned out good. Hmmmmm - maybe I should take more pictures while running. Kidding!



After showering and getting dressed I headed into Epcot. I have to admit. I was really at a loss for what I wanted to do today. Nothing really jumped out and grabbed me and at one point I actually wished I had a car because I still want to explore Celebration in a proper way.

But since I was right outside Epcot it only seemed right that I should spend my day there.

I am sure my run picture is a total fluke! I was more worried about that picture than any other picture I had taken.

I'm another who is enjoying the pictures. I can't believe the running photo turned out to be a darned good looking photo of you. I would like to look that good in at least one of my pictures!

Glad the college decision has been made. I think kids need the living on campus or the living away from home experience. It gets them ready to face adult life in a semi protective atmosphere. How far is UD from your home? Our third son was about 60 miles from home which was a good distance. Second son was 1500 miles away which was a pretty far piece.

HD looks pretty darn good after dark & the iPhone shot of TofT Hotel was frameable!

UD is a 30 minute drive from our house. Delaware is not that big and we live in the northern most county where UD is located. It's very close, but Nick will be living on campus so I don't expect we will see him that much. Once he's in his dorm he's not going to think about how far he is.

I loved all of your photos !!

My DH did that Segway tour in November and he LOVED it. I don't think they are doing the one at Epcot anymore, but I know they have one at Wilderness Lodge/Fort Wilderness. I might schedule one for DH in September. He will love it. And maybe one day I will get to do it.
