Sorry Gaston, They are MUCH More Interesting Than You!*6/8* NEW Trip Report Link p154

Your WL pictures are amazing!! I was lost in them thinking about my summer there two years ago...we can't wait to go back! Hands down, our favorite resort.

I am also loving your MS Electrical Parade pictures!! We got caught by that parade this past January pretty much every time we tried to leave MK...the song was stuck in our heads every night!!

We will be at WDW the same time you are there in June this year, I think.:thumbsup2 I hope we have a chance meeting or three!!

I love Wilderness Lodge, and I am hoping to do the lodge tour - maybe even on this trip on our second MK day. Thanks for the walk around there this evening!

As Mary Ellen mentioned, we did head straight to the Tiki Room. I had never seen the original, only the version "under new management"
I hated that they ever messed with the original, and never liked the new management one, so I'm glad they changed it back! So glad you finally got to see the original even though you didn't seem to like it as much. I guess it is just what you are used to. In my case, I hate when they mess with tradition, especially knowing how much Walt loved the original attraction. :goodvibes

With that, Mary Ellen took off to putz around and photograph away and I went to document potential souvenirs for the E’s. Specifically as you may recall, "funny" T shirts or ones from favorite rides.

Samples texted home for input

Oh, I would love one of those!!!! :cool1:

A visit to the mayor

PA197006.jpg

And his bride

PA197007.jpg

:thumbsup2 Great shots!

A wedding on the lawn. I’m sure there a lot of annoyed brides who really didn't want GF and NFL construction cranes in their pictures.

PA197028.jpg

Oh yeah, that would really suck! I wonder if they can photoshop those out for them??? :confused3

Well, like I said before - definitely put AP on your bucket list, especially if you are celebrating something special. They have awesome customer service and are great with celebrations!
Got it! Maybe something special to celebrate will come along before too long....... :rolleyes2

Thanks! Walking around the Poly paths is definitely something I enjoy doing and if I ever get a chance to stay there I won't say no! ;)
Have to agree on staying at the Poly!!! ::yes::

:rotfl2: That is too funny! But I completely understand as its only been the last couple years that I have decided my feet are totally ugly. :rolleyes2
You're being too harsh on yourself Mary Ellen. When I was in college I carpooled with a group and one of the girls wore sandals one day, and she had the ugliest feet and toes (they bent in different directions) I think I have ever seen! You could be a foot model compared to her! And I was in a play with another girl one time and when I noticed her feet, she had some toes as long as my pinky!!! :scared1: I wouldn’t worry too much about short stubby toes…………

In other news, I booked my outbound flight for October. $104 out of BWI. Not bad. Returning flight schedule is not posted yet.
:woohoo: on booking your flight!!!

More great WL pictures! WL and the Poly are definitely high on my list for future stays! :lovestruc

Here we are seated on the restaurant. I am wearing my camera bag, the latest in dinner wear fashion.

IMG_0872_zps1c715f5b.jpg

For a second there I thought you had been inspired by the group in the shorts and T shirts and were sporting your overalls…………:rotfl:

I want a dress that lights up!

IMG_0895_zps63343b8c.jpg

There’s a lot of call for a lighted dress in your wardrobe, is there??? ;)

I'm not gonna lie - I think I may have fallen asleep a couple times.
At CoP? Are you serious??? :rotfl2:

We are arriving in the evening on April 7th (Sunday) and then leaving to spend the night in Charleston on Friday April 12th. We are spending the night there and then driving home.

Can you come visit??? We have a 2BR. You can stay on our pull out. I wish we were there over a weekend, which would be better for you, but I am only leacvi ng Nick alone one weekend night - not two. Let me know if we can get together. We are going to Savannah one day during the week. Can't wait. I need it!

I have a got a real tight schedule over the next two months but I will take a look. I think of those two weekends I am working one and off the other but I need to double check which. :lmao:

I just love this little lounge area

IMG_0855_zps223449c0.jpg

I need to spend more time there. ::yes::

Back in the room I got ready for dinner while Cynthia was at the health club. I probably packed up a little bit, too.

IMG_0865_zps212d590b.jpg

Cute dress

I want a dress that lights up!

IMG_0895_zps63343b8c.jpg

Me too !!!

This float puts out just the right amount of light for a good picture

IMG_0923_zps00c89a42.jpg

Great picture

Always love the dragon.

So we did the next best thing (well, I guess that's open for debate). We went here

IMG_0973_zpsd67a005e.jpg

IMG_0974_zpsad8ccedf.jpg

You didn't look at the bulletin board... :rotfl2:

At the end of the night, I can see where those chairs would just cause you to ZZZZZZZ...

While you know how I adore the Epcot resorts, I will agree with you, WL is much more fun for pictures!! :goodvibes

Yay for getting to see the parade!! That's such a fun one - I haven't seen it in so long!!

I've been MIA for a couple of weeks, but I'm caught up now. I'm sorry that you were disappointed in the MK shopping, I hate it when that happens. And your pictures really make me glad that DH and I got married when we did - no cranes or boards or construction.

If you did not read Cynthia's update, please see page 70. I never got around to updating our header or putting up links for her last update.

Hmm...Now that you mention it, I think I missed it.

When Cynthia and I arrived back to the WL I felt a little sad. I looked around at the beautiful resort and realized that we would be checking out early tomorrow morning to begin our second resort stay of the trip. I was really looking forward to moving over to the BW, but a little sad that it meant saying goodbye to the WL.

WL and AKL are the 2 places I had the hardest time leaving.

I love this little pathway

That's one of the things I love best about Disney. The sense that there's something else around the corner waiting to be explored.

In general, I don't think the Epcot resorts have the same "curb" appeal. They are wonderful - don't get me wrong. But from a visual, artistic perspective they just aren't as pretty to photograph from the outside as the WL is.

I agree. Part of it is the theme. This is more exotic and transporting. But then again, we grew up on the East Coast and see boardwalks and beach resorts all the time. I'm sure people from other areas feel differently.

LOVE that one! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Here we are seated on the restaurant. I am wearing my camera bag, the latest in dinner wear fashion.

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

And in keeping with our MK mojo, we walked right into the park in time for this

Best part - We walked right into an empty space for prime parade viewing!

Wow! Nice work!

I want a dress that lights up!

Me t--uh, I mean, whatever floats your boat.

At the end of the parade look who we ran into

That Sheree! In one day we had three accidental meetings with her - in the morning in FL, at the Poly pool (when we never saw her), and at the parade!

pixiedust:

So we did the next best thing (well, I guess that's open for debate). We went here

CoP? Yeah, that's definitely open for debate. :rotfl2:

I'm not gonna lie - I think I may have fallen asleep a couple times.

:rolleyes1

Great last minute pictures of WL. I get that way sometimes too.

It's hard not to, isn't it? It's like this frenzied craze that comes over me. :rotfl:

How wonderful to run into Sheree once again.

I can't believe we kept running into her. that was pretty cool that we had so many of the same things on the agenda!

I love your pictures of the lodge and the parade!
I love wl. We stayed there for a Christmas trip in 2011. My dh loved it so much it is his all time favorite. It was hard to get him to leave the hotel. I had thought about taking the lodge tour but didn't- now I really wish I had.

I remember reading about your trip and your stay at WL. I really think its the perfect place for a Christmas stay. We had wanted to stay there at Christmas, but had a last minute date change and ended up at OKW.

The lodge tour is great because they tell you a bunch of interesting factoids about the building of the lodge. Very interesting.

I think for the next trip this parade is going to be high atop my list of to do's.
somehow I have missed it the last few trip. I may have caught a glimpse... But not had the luck of finding a nice space to just chill out and watch. That is so cool you stumbled into a spot!

It's a neat parade and we were extremely lucky to find such great viewing spots! That never happens to me. Ever! :rotfl:

Ack- the dis ap on my phone was freaking out a bit and when I typed that first line it had it words offset from each other. I wondered how it would post. Well it didn't! I will have to get on my computer to edit the post tonight :)

It really doesn't look bad at all. No worries. I have trouble with that app sometimes myself. Hard to see the pictures. So much easier on the computer, that's for sure.

What a wonderful update filled with beautiful pictures yet again. Although I'm not sure I'll ever be sold on staying at the WL, I have to say that your pictures of the resort are breathtaking.

Thanks! I do think you have to "want" to stay there to really like it. It is definitely the darkest of all the resorts and the one that is the least "tropical" shall we say. But it does have its merits. I wouldn't stay there every trip, but I'm glad I have the option of visiting it whenever I want to (as long as I book in time)

I have yet to see the Electrical Parade at the MK since it came back and I am determined to see it one of our trips this year. I'm with you...love the dragon float the best.

You must see it this summer! The dragon float is definitely the coolest!

And I ALWAYS nap during COP...it's my resting time while Mark watches the show.

:rotfl2: Funny - Denny really likes CoP and NEVER falls asleep. One trip he tried to go in there for a third time. I vetoed that. :rolleyes1

HOLY COW LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!!!

From Mouse Planet as part of an article on he history of the Boardwalk. Jim Korkis wrote the whole article Link to it HERE

Nanny Chairs
Placed on either side of the fireplace are the scary "nanny chairs" that were originally found on 19th century European carrousels. They were intended for adults to rest upon while their children rode the moving animals. From this concept developed the more traditional "chariot" benches. It would have been inappropriate for female nannies to even ride side saddle on a carousel horse. These reproductions were cast from circa 1889 originals, hand painted and highlighted with gold leaf. In a moment of cleverness, the two Imagineers involved in the reproductions printed their names on the back of each chair: Todd and Paul.

Totally makes sense now..... well maybe, but why are they so creepy??

Pat - this is TOTALLY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe you found the answer to the mystery behind Paul and Todd. :cool1: I love that. The whole article was really interesting and now I know they have a trial tour going on at the Boardwalk. I so want to do it. I want to see if its possible to check it out this summer. I just love the Boardwalk because of its Atlantic City/Coney Island theme. I would love to learn more about all the cute little decorations and collectibles.

Thanks for posting this!

Wow,great update! I hope to catch the Electrical Parade some day, it looks like such fun.

Thank you! The ELP is actually really cool. You should definitely check it out. I'm not sure which I like better - ELP or Spectro. They are both awesome night time parades.

I understand. Life just gets in the way sometimes. I'm glad your mom is ok.

Thanks. It was nothing serious. She had bad gout and couldn't walk. she's doing better now.

I definitely want to stay at BW sometime, but I would definitely have a hard time leaving WL in a split stay.

It really is hard having a split stay between two great resorts. It's probably easier when its a longer stay, but four nights is barely enough.

Considering that's all we ever pack for vacation, I guess I'll just leave Citricos off our list of future places to try... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

:rotfl2: Well, maybe you can dress it up with a Tie or black shoes? :rotfl:

Maybe you should have gone back to FL to see if Gaston remembered you? :lmao::rotfl2:

I have a feeling Gaston probably remembered us - well, at least for a day. :rotfl:

It is a classic in it's own way. Not like a Space Mountain, but it does hold a special place in my heart.

It is definitely a classic. I do enjoy it, except I think I have the script memorized now.....so that's probably why sleep came easier.

But I can definitely understand that, especially at the end of the day. :lmao:

Just like in Test Track - I think they need a bar in CoP. :rolleyes1

Great WL pictures! I think that might be the next place I stay at WDW! Or Boardwalk, depending on your next set of pictures! ;)

When you see the view we had at the Boardwalk I think I know where you are going to want to stay. ;) Seriously, you can't go wrong with either resort. they are both awesome!

Wow, I just keep showing up in your TR - really, I wasn't stalking you guys or anything! It was fun to keep bumping into you though! After the BIG DISmeet, we kept our eyes open for people we "knew"!

Hmmmmm.......stalking? Nah - more like great minds think alike!

Hope you're not getting slammed with the storm too bad! We had a tough day yesterday - first snow day in about 7 years for my kids

Can you believe that after all that hype we got absolutely NO snow? I don't even think I saw a flurry. But trust me - I am not at all upset about that. I can't wait for all my OCD neighbors to take down the stupid sticks they have outlining their driveways in case we really do need to get plowed.

I love all the pictures of the Wilderness Lodge! That place is so gorgeous. I want to know the answer to the totem pole question! No clue.

I'll post the answer with my next update - unless Cynthia knows it. I'm surprised no one has tried to answer it so far. The WL really is gorgeous. I really enjoyed our stay there.

Stumbling upon great parade spots TWICE in one trip? That's insane! So cool. Hahah, I love the Pete and Elliot float too, except for the Pete part. He tends to creep me out. :lmao:

It is insane and that NEVER happens to me. I am so happy we had such great spots, but now I am spoiled for June. The June crowds will probably irritate me even more.

Beautiful pictures around the lodge. I do hope to stay there in the near future.

Knowing you and all the cool places you've stayed you'll find a way to put it on your list. It is such an interesting resort with so much backstory.

The parade pics are great too! We haven't seen that in awhile so we're hoping to catch it in May :)

I hope you get to see it. My whole goal is to get my nephews to see it. I know they will love it.

Thanks for the update!

You're Welcome! :thumbsup2

Your WL pictures are amazing!! I was lost in them thinking about my summer there two years ago...we can't wait to go back! Hands down, our favorite resort.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the pictures. It's such a lovely resort and it definitely has its own magical feel. I know that its a favorite of many DISers.

I am also loving your MS Electrical Parade pictures!! We got caught by that parade this past January pretty much every time we tried to leave MK...the song was stuck in our heads every night!!

Don't you hate that? The Boo to You song got stuck in my head after the Halloween parade. All I have to do is see pictures of the parade and I start singing it. :rotfl2:

We will be at WDW the same time you are there in June this year, I think.:thumbsup2 I hope we have a chance meeting or three!!

You should pm me with you tentative park schedule and see if we are in any parks on the same day. I think my brother and his family will probably buy a base pass because with 6 of them its a huge savings. I don't know our complete schedule, but I do know some of it. I am going to try to stick with them during the day time with more flexibility for Denny and I in the evenings.

Were are you staying?

We are staying off-site. I hope I don't hate it.

I love Wilderness Lodge, and I am hoping to do the lodge tour - maybe even on this trip on our second MK day. Thanks for the walk around there this evening!

The lodge tour is so good. You won't regret taking the time for it. It's only about 45 minutes, but the interesting stuff you are told makes it a very cool tour. It's like a behind the scenes tour out in the open.

:goodvibes

I kind of get why they change things up, but sometimes the original is just the best.

Oh, I would love one of those!!!!

That's an awesome vacation T!

:thumbsup2 Great shots!

I agree - they are great shots!

Oh yeah, that would really suck! I wonder if they can photoshop those out for them??? :confused3

I think the photographers are savvy enough to avoid construction and what they can't avoid they crop or photo-shop. At least, I'd like to think it works that way.

Got it! Maybe something special to celebrate will come along before too long....... :rolleyes2

I hope so - if not you could always make something up. In case you need an excuse to visit sooner.

Have to agree on staying at the Poly!!! ::yes::

It is on my bucket list, just not sure if I'll ever reach that part of the bucket.

:rotfl2: Foot model? :rotfl2: Too funny about your friend's feet.

:woohoo: on booking your flight!!!

I'm glad that's taken care of. Now I just need the return flight.

More great WL pictures! WL and the Poly are definitely high on my list for future stays! :lovestruc

The WL is really cool. I hope you get to stay there, but even if you don't you should check out the tour. Really informative.

For a second there I thought you had been inspired by the group in the shorts and T shirts and were sporting your overalls…………:rotfl:

:rotfl2: It does look a little like that, doesn't it?

There’s a lot of call for a lighted dress in your wardrobe, is there??? ;)

Well, one never knows when a lighted dress might come in handy, does one? :rolleyes1

At CoP? Are you serious??? :rotfl2:

Hard to believe, isn't it?

Thanks for thinking of me MEK,I'm not out of the woods yet and unfortunately I won't know more until I see a specialist in April .I went to the dr last week n got some news that I didn't want so I decided that before I let him medicate me i'm takling matters into my own hands. At the advice of a very good friend I signed up on a site to monitor my eating n exercise habits, and made major changes, because it made me accountable it's only been a week today since that appointment and I've lost 4 pounds and my body has started to function the way it should.I'm hoping I can do this and have more positive affects.
Oh geez, when I looked at ur camera bag pic I thought you were wearing an apron.

I had almost caught up when I found myself asleep with my fingers perched over the keyboard again last night. No offense, its just what happens when I sit back & finally put my feet up at night!

I've totally done that!

I wanted to just comment how I LOVED the great photos of the MK on Hallowishes. The colors on the castle are so dark and eerie. awesome!

They magic shots of you three hitchhiking, and Pat's Queen of Hearts photos - awesome! so many great ones I can't remember them all.

ME I laughed so hard at you hitting the wall at Belle's Enchanted stories. and then reading Cynthia's take on the same show. just funny!

Cynthia you had great timing to see the Rope Drop show. and you both had great timing.

I love the castle pics from Hallowishes, so many wonderful ones! Pat's QOH was awesome. I don't think I'd realized just how hard Mary Ellen hit the wall at Enchanted Tales, I was clearly too busy being a total Beauty and the Beast geek.

Hi ladies - had a few days away from the DIS (:sad2:) but I'm catching up!

ANYWHO...I am leaving Saturday night for HHI! Nope, I have not packed a single thing! I'm really excited to get there, but totally unorganized. I do have a food list written down, and a packing list in my head (not a good place for it). Got some stuff at work to get done, conferences for Paige, my rescheduled appt., have to do some girl scout cookie business, Paige's dance competition Saturday, bake treats for a party at work Friday...
I feel like Cynthia!!! ;)

:rotfl2:

Just another day huh.

For those of you who have never been, Citrico's shares a waiting area with Victoria & Alberts. After we checked in we were seated in this joint waiting area. We had plenty of time to order and enjoy a drink before it was time to be seated in the restaurant.

While we were waiting, what surprised both of us were the group of very casually dressed people waiting with drinks at the table adjacent to ours. As when I say casual - I mean T-shirts and shorts. They looked like that should have been at the bar at ESPN, not at Citricos. Cynthia and I looked at each other because we were both thinking the same thing. *Insert eye roll here* Not quite sure whether they ever entered the restaurant or not. But I'm not sure why they would have been in that area otherwise.

IMG_4344_zps03a3736b.jpg
I remember we were cracking up at the contrast between the ESPN shirts (and their loudness which I think made them seem more out of place than the T's) and the wine flights they were having. One of these things does not look like the others...

Really though, is there another lounge at the GF besides the pool? Maybe there isn't, I honestly don't know and now that I think about it I guess there is one behind the band but if you didn't know it was there, this could seem like the only option. I think it was that the Citrico's loungs is very secluded and set back, not something you'd stumble by and as it serves for V&A as well it was, for me, one of the very few lounges in Disney that I'd have felt underdressed in a tee and shorts. All that said, it's a weird lounge if you ask me, an odd use of the space and it took forever to get our wine. Once we realized there was actually a bar inside Citrico's I know we wished we'd have gone there for our drink instead, much better ambiance

Here we are seated on the restaurant. I am wearing my camera bag, the latest in dinner wear fashion.

IMG_0872_zps1c715f5b.jpg

Ok that looks pretty funny with the top flap open like that, it does look part of the outfit until you realize.

GREAT WL photo's. I really do like WL although I have to admit I felt more "connected" to it when we stayed in the main lodge part as I spent a lot of time on our verandah. I think it's the verandah junkie in me, I live for those moments on vacation and the view is a biggie. I didn't mind ours in the villas but having had the pool view in the main lodge it really was a big difference. I would request if not a water view, at least that side of the building I think if I stayed there again as I'd enjoy the view a little more. I loved the actual villa though and the grounds are amazing. Just amazing.

I'm going to TRY to get my update up today, otherwise it won't be till Sat so fingers crossed. I think I can get it done.

HOLY COW LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!!!

Totally makes sense now..... well maybe, but why are they so creepy??

I listened to that podcast, so funny that we've all been speculating on why the creepy chairs had boy names...and now we know. All I know is they look uncomfortable as heck to sit on, in addition to being creepy and they must have been tiny nannies...which isn't necessarily my impression of that era.

I hated that they ever messed with the original, and never liked the new management one, so I'm glad they changed it back! Yes, I might have felt differently had I seen the original first. New management felt like it had more energy to me

I've been MIA for a couple of weeks, but I'm caught up now. I'm sorry that you were disappointed in the MK shopping, I hate it when that happens. And your pictures really make me glad that DH and I got married when we did - no cranes or boards or construction.

I'd agree with that, part of my meh feeling about the Poly is that it's so 70's Hawaii. Which isn't a bad thing, it's a classic thing, just something I've had a lot of so don't really want it on a Florida trip. They are all hard to leave though, in different ways.

:

I do know it :) because thanks to YOU I took the lodge tour too! Although I'd possibly have guessed it as well simply as there isn't a shortage of totem poles around here and I've been exposed to a fair bit of Native American history growing up as a result.

Great! I haven't uploaded anything into it yet. It automatically converted me over and now that I don't have unlimited my storage is 75% full. I need to go into my albums and start deleting some nonsense crap. A couple of my folders have dups, so I need to fix that.

You got railroaded, too?

It happened to me after getting back from Mexico.

The uploading is awkward because you have to keep going back and specifying the folder or it will load your pictures into the main library.

You have to scroll through all the pictures, they haven't separated them by page.

Resizing is inconsistent. Sometimes I can get it to work, sometimes no. And I think you have to do each picture individually. I wish you could still upload everything in the size you want to use.

Uploading from Facebook albums gives you photos in a decent size, but the names of the files end up being a bunch of random numbers.

I will now call it Photo#$^it.

I have had a really hard time catching up this week!

Mary Ellen- I haven't done the WL tour (or ever been to the WL, but I would love to see it- thanks for your pictures. Gorgeous!), but I'll bite on the totem poles- Bad luck to have them facing one another?

I am glad you got a prime spot for the ELP because your pictures are amazing!

Cynthia- I loved your Tiki Room pix. The one of the sign was really striking- the colors and all.

Cute t-shirts. I look forward to seeing more. I think my fave is the one at AK with Pooh looking through a magnifying glass at a tiger "Tigger, is that you?"

Funny you mentioned adding rum to the Dole Whips. Did you see they are offering that exact thing at a booth at Food & Wine. Spoiler Alert- reports are they are NOT good!

Loved your Poly pool time. I did my first toe picture last week!!!

I am going to suggest flickr to both of you. The pro account is pretty cheap. I went with the 3 month one for about $7, but I think a yearly is like $25. It's not as easy as the the old photobucket, but still prety user friendly ...at least I was able to figure it out for the most part. :rotfl2:

I looked at my photobucket usage the other day and was shocked I was only at 16%. I think that had to be an error as i post on 5 boards and I post a lot. And I know they get looked at, even if people don't respond.
Mine expires towards the end of April and at this point I have no desire to renew. It's sad that it came down to this, but I am not working with a site that fights me with every picture I try to link.

Totem poles don't face each other because it'd be bad juju? :confused3

Here we are seated on the restaurant. I am wearing my camera bag, the latest in dinner wear fashion.

I got an email from them yesterday saying that "due to my feedback" they were going to re-implement the choose what size you want to upload at feature.

With no tlimeline for it

Yep. MY feedback

I am ridiculously behind everywhere

Cynthia- I loved your Tiki Room pix. The one of the sign was really striking- the colors and all.

Cute t-shirts. I look forward to seeing more. I think my fave is the one at AK with Pooh looking through a magnifying glass at a tiger "Tigger, is that you?"

Eric almost bought that shirt in august, I was glad he didn't as to me it is a fairly "girl" shirt but he really liked it. I'd love to be looking at that sign right now.

Funny you mentioned adding rum to the Dole Whips. Did you see they are offering that exact thing at a booth at Food & Wine. Spoiler Alert- reports are they are NOT good!

Loved your Poly pool time. I did my first toe picture last week!!!

I'd heard they were out but not that they weren't good! I think I'll make my own at Aualani and see :thumbsup2

Were you somewhere else warm or is the toe pic from Mexico?

I renewed fairly recently so I don't want to bail yet. I'm going to give them some time as I really don't want my stuff in 2 places and am really not sure what happens to your photos if you go down to the "free" level. I'm at 50% right now and at the rate I'm going I'd probably have several years before it's really an issue. But, when the time comes to renew I will take a hard look at what they've fixed and not fixed.

Well, I thank you in advance for really getting through to Photobucket! I didn't know I had a friend with so much pull! I look forward to using the re-enhancements. Soon!

Yes, toe pic was from Mexico. I have a little mini TR going on which is hooked onto the end of my Muggles report and I posted it there along with the background story.
