sorry another question....restaurants

are you ready for another one...compulsive planner alert

what restaurants would you recommend for 2 adults with 2 kids aged 2 and 4. We will take advantage of the hotel brekkie and will eat counter service during the day, but would like to have a sit down meal on an evening, and one character meal but not bothered what meal that is. Would ideally like mickey or Minnie at the character meal.

I've also heard about paying for a charcter breakfast at your hotel, and also breakfast in the park an hour earlier than opening, do i need to book these in advance? or can i do them at check in?

Also how do you get the meal vouchers i've heard about, again do they need to be bought in advance or can i buy them at check in?

Suzanne, we like to do similar and have table service for supper.
Recommendations for the kids would be Annette's Dinner, Rain Forest Cafe (although the thunder storm might alarm the children , Inventions (Disneyland Hotel) character buffet but quite pricey, Planet Hollywood, Blue Laggoon, Plazza gardens (again a buffet)

For character breakfast you have the choice of Plazza Gardens or Cafe Mickey.

Hopefully some one else will chip in about the meal vouchers.

Cafe mickeys great for kids, it has plenty of characters around who are very good at entertaining the kids. if you want to go in the eveing its recemended to book.

Planet hollywood is also a good choice and the childrens menu is good.

I personally would swear by them - be careful there are only a couple of restaurants that don't accept them - the ones in the village and Disneyland Hotel - otherwise I think everybody does. It really took the budgeting worry out of the holiday for us and on several meals it worked out better value [i.e. we exchanged vouchers for 3 course meals, which if we had bought them from the menu individually and paid for them would have cost more.

I would recommend Plaza Gardens for character interaction. We tended to really fill up at breakfast, snack during the day [i.e. Casey's corner for a hot dog, or tea party at Plaza gardens] and then have a proper sit down at night, so we had one voucher per person per day. In February we didn't even use them all and were frantically spending them on the last day in the gibson girl on ice creams and drinks!!!

I agree with Reid about Annette's and Rainforest Cafe in the Village for an evening meal - great fun at both. Cafe Mickey and Plaza Gardens are both excellent for character breakfasts. I think the only hotel doing a character breakfast is the Disneyland Hotel which anyone can book even if you're not staying there but it's pricey. Cafe Mickey and the Disneyland Hotel do character evening meals and the Plaza Gardens does a character tea party.

I thought only guests of the hotel could use it at breakfast time. Other hotels and off-site guests I thought were limited to Plaza Gardens or cafe Mickey if they wanted character breakfasts.

Unless you have been before I wouldn't book too many character meals before you go. Our DD(3) who is disney mad was terrified of the characters . I do think this was quite an extreme reaction as most people's children seemed to love the Characters -even at the same age. You should maybe try a breakfast or tea party at Plaza gardens before booking anywhere like Inventions - although we did enjoy our meal there so I would recommend it if your children do like the characters.
Our DD loved Annette's - roller skating waitresses lots of music and a good selection of food for adults and children !!

DLP are so bad at repeating characters at their character meals...don't over do it or else you will just end up seeing the same few characters over and over again!!

we will probably only do one character meal, maybe cafe mickey on an evening. We went to WDW n September so kids are fine with characters, did take them a couple of days though before they were at running up and hugging them stage.

I recommend Lucky Nugget and Inventions for character meals. Also I agree that Annettes is great for food and atmosphere and Blue Lagoon and Rainforest Cafe not so much for the food but atmosphere brilliant!

We went to Cafe Mickey for the first time recently. We had a great time there.
