Before the hat.

WOW! That looks so strange! not as Disney I suppose...:confused3

Yes, but that's how many of us remember it.

here are 2 pictures. Before and After.
The hat obviously blocks the view of the Chinese Theater. That impression is so strong that you might have the feeling that someone tastelessly photoshopped that hat over the first picture.
And that's the feeling I get when I enter DHS and see that hat that was supposed to be gone 10 years ago.

Well that hat's been there so long now, that I guess it has become quite popular :) (but I still wouldn't mind a bit to see it gone :) )

I know I'm probably in the minority but seeing the before and after pics, I'm definitely team hat :)

me too! :thumbsup2 I think it looks more like china in Epcot than Hollywood studios! The hat represents Fantasia, a Disney film so seems to me to fit very well in DHS x I suppose it's what you are used to then but I loved the wand also! :)

Just a quick footnote here.

The Chinese theater behind the hat is a replica of the Grauman's Chinese theatre which is located on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, along the Walk of fame. (Coincidentely, the replica is located at the end of Hollywood Boulevard in DHS)

It is as iconic to Hollywood as the big letters on the side of the hill, and it is also the backdrop for many Hollywood (studios) events like movie premieres (Star Wars for example) and Academy Awards ceremonies (and many other things)

You can't make it more "Hollywood" than this Theater (my $.02 :) )

I like the hat although I've never been so that could be why lol. At least it should be there when we go next month, at least I hope it is or DBF might cry haha

I really like the hat but I'm not opposed to it being taken down. I've only ever been when the hat has been there so I don't know any different.

When I first went to WDW, DHS wasn't even there - only MK and Epcot.

After they built Disney MGM Studios there was no hat and I preferred it that way. As others have said, the view up the street when you enter the park was much better before the big blue thing arrived. I think it looks much more 'cluttered' now and it really reduces the amount of space.
I'd also like them to bring back the fireworks over the theatre - there used to be a huge inflatable Mickey that rose up in the background and the music was from famous films. Was it called 'Fantasy in the Sky'?

The wand over Spaceship Earth started off as the numbers '2000' for the Millennium celebrations and then got changed to the wand.
Again, I prefer the uncluttered version.

I'm just old and grumpy, basically. :thumbsup2

Well I hope it's gone by the time we go back in Oct 2014 as I for one would love to see it without the hat. Besides it will just provide me with another excuse for photos as we've got loads with the hat and now we'll get loads without :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

That's what I'm thinking too :)

It was called "Sorcery in the Sky", it lasted from '89 to '97 when it was replaced by Fantasmic!

for all who loved it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK4G9rtHdgE

I loved the Mickey fireworks at the end! ::MickeyMo

Thanks for the link :)

If anyone else feels nauseous with shakey videos, I spotted this one next to the one chmurf posted which is really clear and really steady!

Oh well, if it goes it goes, at least I have seen it now, I think it will just look strange without it. But then that's the only way I have seen it so sure I will get used to it gone!

I hope this is true. I'm another purist who thinks it is ugly and would be glad to see the back of it. When we first went in 1992 the view from the entrance was of the beautiful Mann's Theatre and I'd love to see it back to how it was. :thumbsup2

When was the hat put it in, we went first time in 1999 and I don't remember it then? I love the theatre and would love the hat to go.

It came in 2001 as part of "100 years of Magic" celebrating the 100th birthday of Walt Disney

Arh makes more sense now! :thumbsup2 more Hollywood than Disney. Loved the sorcery in the sky! i would have loved to have seen that!:tink:

I love the hat but to be honest seeing the before and after pics, I prefer it without.

My DS will be more bothered about Lights, Motor, Action going (that's if I've read it right)
