sorcerers hat going from DHS?

I hope this is true. I'm another purist who thinks it is ugly and would be glad to see the back of it. When we first went in 1992 the view from the entrance was of the beautiful Mann's Theatre and I'd love to see it back to how it was.

Funnily enough - when we were there in December a CM was telling us that the hat was put there to hide the Manns Chinese theatre following the removal of MGM from the studios - so that the 1st thing guests saw was something Disney when they entered the park - I never knew that

On my DVD history of Walt Disney world it said they added it because it didn't have an icon every one would see the castle and think magic kingdom. But Hollywood studios didn't have a recognizable icon.

When we were there in February a CM told us that for a short period between transition of names MGM studios and Hollywood Studios they tried Disney Studios as a name but apparently caused too much confusions because of universal studios as people kept dropping the Disney and just calling it studios.

I'm another who remembers it before the hat and will be glad if the rumours are true - I always thought it was ugly.

I remember watching the close of the day fireworks over Mann's Chinese theatre and thought it was a lovely setting. Fingers crossed

Personally I just don't see the point of the hat. IMO it spoils the view as you walk in and I also think the ear water tower is much more in keeping with the "feel" of the park as it's icon

To this very day I still call Hollywood Studio 'MGM' and when I think about it the Earful Tower is what immediately comes to mind! For all I have been at 'MGM' since the Hat arrived I hardly notice it when I am there, a glance when we get into the park and a glance at it at night is about as much attention it gets from me so this wouldn't bother me! I have always felt it was a bit misplaced anyway.

Wasnt the hat put in the same time the wand went on epcot? A celebration i think it was so many years.

We have seen it both with and without but i think it will look bear.

I thought that too, like the 100years of magic celebration or something.

I do kind of like the hat but it is a waste of space. It will all depend on whats going in its place.

"Well, the old Chinese Theater facade on the Great Movie Ride is leaving as well since Disney no longer has the rights to use that on merchandise or in publicity materials"

Is this going to be another change in addition to taking the hat away?

It looks like there are some big changes proposed for DHS, although at this stage it all seems unconfirmed rumors.

It is human nature to resist change initially but we all get used to it and it becomes normal. Remember all the upset when Toontown closed and Mickey and Minnie's houses were removed? You don't see any mention of that now.

I like the hat but I'm all for a change if it lets me get some different photos of the park

As sad as I would be to see the hat go, you're right. I wasn't overly sad about Toontown but I do remember the upset.

I don't really mind change... especially at Disney. Always an excuse to go back and see something 'new'. (Not that an excuse is really needed )

I didn't know Minney and Mickey's houses had gone!! I don't mind change as long as I'm prepared for it! I love the dhs hat, when I last went on our first day we waited at the bus stop and got on the first bus that came, we went to DHS and the first bit of Disney we saw was the hat and it seemed magical Can't wait to take DBF because he's never been.

I was sad because it was sentimental to me, having spent so much time there with DD on her first couple of trips. But I recognised that it was purely sentimental and when we were there in 2010 just before Toontown was closed, we spent almost no time there at all because she had moved to a different stage. Even the new Fantasyland, which was only partially open when we went at the beginning of September last year, only saw us pass through out of curiosity once and we didn't go back to see it again on our entire nearly 3 week trip.

I'm with you - change is necessary for progress and it keeps things fresh and interesting

Oh no, I'm another one that would be sad to see the hat go! But then it's all iv ever known, I'm sure I will get used to seeing something different there!

Have to admit, I still wish the wand and hand were on the Epcot ball too

My first memories of MGM (yes I still call it that!!) are of the ear tower. Its what I always think of when I think of MGM/hollywood studios. I agree that things need to progress and change, so although I will be kind of sad to see the hat go (mainly because my kids haven't had the chance to see it yet!) I will look forward to what they do next. MGM has always been my least favourite park, maybe they will do something that will change my park preference?!

I remember back before the Hat - the icon used to be the earful tower. I also hate the way it hides the Chinese Theatre from view as that is truly stunning building.

TBH I wasn't overly worried when the wand went either - maybe I am just a purest and like things how they were originally designed
