Is it still there in front of the Chinese Theater, or did they remove it after 100 YoM Celebration (if it's still there, is the 100 YoM sign still there, too?)
Was that hat ever at the front entrance? When I went back last month, I thought something was missing at the gate. I thought I remembered it being at the front in 2000 when I was there last.
Count me in the folks who don't like. Well, I WOULD like it if it were somewhere else, but it DOES block the theater, and I can't get a good picture of it! (The theater, not the hat)
Although - that hat does look pretty nifty at night!
I have to go with the majority, it is time for the hat to go. In 1997, they changed the castle at MK into a birthday cake, but changed it back when the 25th anniversary celebration of WDW was over.
The 100 years celebration is over, so it is now time to move the hat to a better location, or just get rid of it. It does not fit the decor of the Disney Studio's. (I like the Great Movie Ride.)
The hat is the signature of MGM, like Cinderella's castle, Spaceship Earth, and the Tree of Life. I would much rather see the hat than the Chinese theater as I'm walking in. The hat means I'm at Disney-MGM, not the theater.
I am a little indifferent about the hat
Part of me says "Wow that is really cool "
Another part of me says "Getting a little bored of it, time for it to go
I think what the problem is, is that a lot of us here are repeat visitors and it's basically "been there, done that" philosophy (I fall into this many times even though I try not to).
But, I guess if I have never been before I would want to experience the "Hat" in MGM so I can understand why they leave it.
I personally am hoping that it is not a permanent landmark at MGM, but I have a feeling that it will be for a long time. I don't remember who here said that it was cool to see at night - I have to agree - any pictures I have taken do not do it justice.
I just wish the hat was someplace else. I don't like it blocking the theater. I think the theater gave a better feeling of Hollywood and the movies than the hat does.
Last year when I went it was the first time I saw the hat and I hated it but this year I spent a lot more time in MGM and I really got to liking it. It does show up really pretty at night.
I like the water tower with the ears better, as MGM's symbol. It was visible but out of the way and has that Disney - Mickey feel to it. The hat is HUGE and a giant eye sore (IMHO) and it's in an akward place.
I also think that the giant Mickey arm that's growing out of SE should go. What next? Will the Tree of Life get a pair of Mickey shorts? Or how about crowning the Castle with some Mickey gloves! I think that's as silly as the Mickey arm with want and theSorcerers hat.
