SOOZE -Adults only Marathon Weekend 3/1 New PTR link is here!

Hi Sooze (And Matt). Glad you guys are having a good time, again, just LOVING this live report, so fun!!! We've never seen voices of liberty so I await your video to tempt us to see them for the first time in June. Do your kids like it too or is an adult only thing? That soarin' line cue thing always seemed cool as we watched people interacting with it as we whiz by in the FP line. Looks like you guys are having a great time so far, can't wait for more!!!
Lesley

Voices of Liberty is DEFINITELY a WHOLE family experience. They only sing 3 or 4 songs... so it's short and sweet. Matt and I people watch in between sets, and go back over and over again... which our kids would NEVER let us do... but seeing them once is GREAT for the kiddos.

Yeah.. I can't believe we got into a 65 minute stand by line. I guess it's because we were really in no rush! We usually fly by in the FP line too!

i'm in!! Loving the live report so far!!

Glad you're here! :cutie:

This is great! Just like being there!
Thanks!
:thanks:

Well... almost;) I enjoy reading other folks' live reports... so I thought I'd give one a try. Glad to have you along!

The WS looked so pretty on your walk to the Land. Your meals look very good too. That is the best counter service on property. How did Matt do in the marathon?

Yes... the brilliant sunshine we've had made for some beautiful pictures!!

Matt placed 5704th!! That cracks us up to say... but when you think that there were over 12000 runners.. he didn't do too bad!!

Signing on for the fun!

Brings back great memories of when DH did the Half-Marathon in 2006! We did the "adults-only thing, too! :goodvibes

Totally different vibe than when the kiddos are along.... great, but I must have jumped up in a panic at least a half dozen times thinking, "OMG, where are they? They're lost!!" :rotfl:

Looking forward to more,

Kathy

:thumbsup2 Brilliant idea of doing your report live!!! I am enjoying your photos too.

Thanks! Don't think I'll finish it while I'm here.. but it has been fun revisiting each night!

:rotfl: Then you sigh in relief as you realize you don't have to worry about them for a while! Did you find yourself wanting to bring home a ton of souvies for them?!

Well, I wish I had a bunch of pictures to post of Matt triumphantly crossing the finish line with "Chariots of Fire" playing in the background. I should probably even have a picture of his shiny gold Donald medal. But.... no...

We woke up at 2:45!! ICKY! I dropped him off at the BW by 3:15 so he could catch a bus to the race start. Then I went back to the lame hotel and slept until 7!! My poor man was running his heart out, and I was dreaming away!! It basically boils down to the fact that we were off property. Not only that, but we were rookies, too. We had no idea what the mini was set up like... what the family members could do....etc. Next time he does this, we will make SURE we are on property, and I will definitely be there cheering for him at the end.

So how did he do? He was VERY pleased as he RAN the whole race. He was worried that he'd have to stop or walk... he didn't even have to take a bathroom break:thumbsup2 He finished in 2 and a half hours and placed 5,704th. That sounds so funny to say, but it was out of over 12,000 runners... so not too bad!!

Here's the first picture I have of this day.

I checked out of our hotel, checked into SSR. Our room was, obviously, not ready at 9am. So I waited for Matt at the marathon bus stop. He grabbed some food and water, changed into his bathing suit, sat in the hot tub for about 20 minutes, then SLEPT on the pool lounger. When he awoke, he looked at me and said, "This is a little bit of H#!! Yeah!!" That became our quote of the weekend!

We decided to head to DHS while we waited for our room.
P1030050.jpg

Our first stop was food. We grabbed some pizza and a sandwich for Matt.

Here's the view from our corner table:

We decided to watch the Beauty and the Beast show again, but had a while until the next show. Time to check out some Streetmosphere:

We watched these folks for a good half hour. Matt thinks they milk it more when the weather is nice, because they aren't sweltering to death!

Time for Beauty and the Beast. Unfortunately, we found out that Four for a Dollar/ Return2Zero are no longer opening up the show. The CM we talked to made it seem like budget cuts were the reason. He also revealed that they are performing at Sea World now:confused: Shame on Disney... they were AMAZING!

Oh well.. on to the classic tale:

This guy was UNBELIEVABLE... what a VOICE!!

We enjoyed the show very much!

Next, we went to the Animation class. Again, tip for everyone, we walked into the Art store in front of the animation exhibit. There is a door that takes you inside the exhibit. You can bypass the little video (and the big line!) and go right to the fun stuff. Matt and I both laughed when we learned we were drawing Goofy. That's exactly who we did last time. Though, we DID draw him facing a different angle this time. Okay... who's is better?:rolleyes1

Next up was LMA show. On our way, we saw that VotLM was about to start and Matt had never seen it. Now, I'm not really a fan. It is SO outdated, but... we went anyway. This is what we BOTH think of the show:

P1030092.jpg

Ariel is cute and her song is beautiful. The blacklight stuff is neat... but that movie is just too complicated to compact into 15 minutes of show. It is just lame. They REALLY need to update that section of the park. We have a few ideas... I'll share some later!

LIGHTS.... MOTORS...... ACTION!

After this, we were done and ready to back HOME to get into the villa.
I'll try to update sometime tomorrow with more (and pictures from our home for the weekend!)

But I'll leave you with that VOL video I promised. Listen to this man SING! The talent at Disney is unparalleled... just amazing!

Darn - I don't have time to quote all I want to!

CONGRATS to Matt for doing so well in his first Mini! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :cheer2:

And, congrats to you both for getting back on WDW property, lol! It can be skeery outside those walls.

It sounds like a fantastic trip so far - looking forward to more! :goodvibes

Congrats to Matt for finishing so well, running all the way, HOW GREAT! Bummer you weren't there to greet him, but like you said, next time! I agree about the LIttle Mermaid show, what are your ideas??
Your goofy was better Sooze (sorry Matt) EXCELLENT job!:thumbsup2 Loved the Voices of Liberty video, thanks for sharing, on our list for this year for sure!!!! Can't wait for more!!!

I will be looking forward to hearing your reaction to VoL. We just LOVE LOVE LOVE them (in case you couldn't tell!)

Matt and I decided that since DHS doesn't have an interactive activity (like Turtle Talk or Monsters Inc Laugh Floor) that they could use that space for something like that. Maybe use Mater from Cars.. or extend the Pixar Place further down into where VotLM is. You can't get too much Pixar!!

We also thought about targeting Tweenies... like putting something from Wizards of Waverly place there.. or an interactive Radio Disney exhibit. Something!!!

Well, we had PLANNED on going back to get into our villa, but realized we were hungry. We were walking past Momma Melrose's and it was pretty dead (it was kinda early). So in we went!

We were seated immediately. I love the theming of this place. I wanted to linger and look at all of the pictures on the walls of celebrities that had been to MGM. Lots of 80's stars for sure!! We started with a bread/spread tray:

P1030105.jpg

Then the chefs prepared Chicken Parm for Matt and Spicy Italian Sausage for me:

I've heard some not-so-flattering reports about this place but we really liked it. The food was delicious. Our CM/waiter was friendly and took excellent care of us. We will definitely return.

(I must let you know, however, that Matt and I are NOT food experts by any means! We don't drink wine or dine at 5 star establishments... so take that for what it's worth!)

We stopped by AI on our way out:
P1030111.jpg

I asked about the prize in relation to old people like me. You know, if you 'win' the show for the day, you get a pass to get you to the front of the line for the REAL AI auditions. Well, obviously, if you're too old to audition for AI, the prize is kind of a waste. The CM told us that you can transfer it ONCE. So.. WHEN I come compete in AI in the spring, and WHEN I win... I'll take the highest bidder on my pass...

We bid farewell to DHS and to the sun. The moon has been STUNNING while we've been here. And I'm counting my blessings that I'm skipping school while there is a full moon!

P1030112.jpg

We got to our villa and got unpacked and comfy. We were in The Paddock on the 2nd floor. We were very close to a quiet pool and a bus stop. Just fine with us!:thumbsup2

We got into warmer clothes and headed back to Epcot for night #2 of Illuminations. We found our spot in front of Mexico. I decided to go for the boat ride while Matt held our spot and played Yahtzee on his cell phone! I walked right on and had a boat to myself. I think I found a hidden Mickey! Toward the end of the ride, there is a small boat holding drums.. Three of the drum heads form a Mickey head. Sorry, no picture.. but it was fun to find!

Illuminations was absolutely perfect! The timing of the fireworks to the music was RIGHT ON!! Matt and I cuddled and smiled through the whole thing. Then we slowly walked around WS while the crowds walked past us, rushing to the entrance, and surely a long wait for their bus. We waltzed through International Gateway to our waiting Green Beetle and crashed for the night. We planned on sleeping in the next morning while the rest of WDW battled the Marathon!

Stay tuned to hear about our lunch at San Angel Inn... another restaurant with a bad rap....

Wow! I cannot believe that Matt was able to do all that after just a little nap! Congrats to him!

It is definitely a plus staying on site the night before the race. Just one more reason to go back and do it again and see, right? :thumbsup2

Kathy

Wow! What a great trip ... I was surprised at the number of people in all of your pictures. I guess the marathon draws a bigger crowd then I thought.

Can't wait to hear the rest!

Congratulations to Matt, top 50th %. Thanks for all the great DHS pictures, one of my favorite parks.

Loving the live report and all the pics!

I had fun working on it! Thanks for checking in!

Seriously, I kept looking at him throughout the day wondering when he was just going to CRASH! He never did... I guess there's something special about running 13 miles through the happiest place on Earth!

And, yes, he is planning on running again next year.. and YES we WILL stay ON-SITE!!

Last time we went on marathon weekend (Matt ran the 5K), we were stunned at the huge amount of people that were there. So we were prepared this time. Fortunately, it really didn't seem that bad! I guess we hit the right parks at the right time!:thumbsup2

Congratulations to Matt, top 50th %. Thanks for all the great DHS pictures, one of my favorite parks.

He was definitely pleased with his finish.. he really trained himself. We were imagining how much better he could do if he worked with a professional!!

So... we returned home to two very anxious and excited kids. I was so excited to show Shaelyn the picture of Mommy and Daddy with Snow White. I pulled it up on the camera and handed it to her. My mom, who was here visiting, said, "Aren't you worried she'll delete your pictures?!" I replied, "Pssh... NO. She always plays with the camera and hasn't ever deleted a picture"...

:guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

::yes:: You guessed it. Not only did she delete the Snow White pic.. she deleted EVERY SINGLE PICTURE AND VIDEO CLIP WE TOOK ON THE TRIP!!
:faint:

I was devastated... we had so many great pics, and video footage taken specifically to entertain our Dis friends. I don't even know how she did it. I still haven't been able to figure out how to delete the entire memory card in one shot. Well, leave it to the two-year-old to be the one...

I do have a bunch of pictures that I put on Photobucket while we were still in WDW... so I'll do a few more updates. But I'm afraid I lost the last two days..

Sorry friends!!

Oh Sooze, that really stinks! Luckily she's really cute, so that will keep you from killing her, right?

Anyway, you must have a day off school today too, right? I mean -11! Really? This isn't Minnesota or Alaska! I think I'm going to hibernate until we leave for Disneyland next week!

Can't wait to read about the rest of your adventures!

For real... I couldn't be mad at her.. it's not her fault! It's mine for thinking the pictures were safe in the hands of a two-year-old!

Actually, we just had a two-hour delay this morning. Which is fine with me, because we won't have to make up the day!! It does make me laugh, though, that some schools are closed and others aren't... weird! I even came in at normal time today so I could get my lesson plans done for next week. Now I can stay home and enjoy my 3-day weekend!

Stay warm... and have fun in Disneyland! :beach:

Sorry to hear about losing the pictures, but glad to hear about everything else. Congrats to Matt for running the mini!

I have to ask - I don't know why, but I've always been under the impression that the blacklight portion of Music Theater was inspired by VotLM. Is this not true?

PS - Which airline did you use? We're considering switching from NW, and our friends are for sure giving the boot to Airtran.

Actually the blacklight stuff for Music Theater was inspired by the blacklight stuff we used in Brass Theater with Star of Indiana. Now... THEY might've been influenced by VotLM... I do see some similiarities in effects and prop pieces!!

We flew NW. I think that's the last time we'll do it, though. We had a great flight, and all of our luggage arrived fine... I'm just tired of all the extra fees for any little thing you do! I really want to get into SW.. I hear such great things about their customer service.
