I am about to purchase my first mirrorless camera. The camera shops that I purchase my cameras from both suggest Sony Alpha A7R II. I had Nikon D800 and D800E but I am looking for a lighter camera. I will not be using the camera for video. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

The a7rii will save you some weight but it really depends on the lenses you use. Premium lenses can weigh more than the bodies. So if you were planning to add the new Sony 24-70/2.8 GM lens, for example, you may find the weight savings to be pretty minor.
Mirrorless has many advantages, but the supposed weight advantage is a bit overstated

Thanks Havoc315. I am considering the Sony FE 85 mm f/1.4 GM but I have read some bad reviews about it having a grinding noise. Do you have any experience with it?

No experience with it. My Sony mirrorless experience mostly comes from the a6300, paired with small lenses. Mostly possible due to it being aps-c, combined with mirrorless. I do most of my pro shooting with the Nikon d750.
I've mostly read excellent things about the 85GM, but it is very expensive and heavy. I do my portrait shooting with the Tamron 85/1.8, and used the Nikon 85/1.8g until recently. (the Tamron is exceptional except there is a focus shift issue--- and focus accuracy is a mirrorless advantage)

Unless you have the need for 1.4, the GM might be overkill. The 85 Batis is noticeably lighter and cheaper. Also look at the Samyang/Rokinon 85 1.4. It's a manual focus lens but is also a 1.4 and best of all it's $300 or less.
