I wonder why my facebook friends are surprised that Jax died in the finale! :confused3 This show was based on HAMLET.

There was also a book released that showed Jax as being one of the major deaths of season 7.

Great ending. Did anyone else watch it?

Eek, posting a major spoiler the morning after it airs?!

SPOILER!!!!!

YES! My all-time favorite show. Sutter has been very clear from the beginning that his inspiration was Hamlet... and he very clearly followed the death patterns, re: the source material (Unser = the greatest embodiment of Polonious EVER, and I'm still convinced Juice = Laertes, because ultimately, he was responsible for Jax's final undoing) so I have NO idea why people would be surprised by the ending, unless they aren't familiar with Hamlet (spoiler! they ALL die!:lmao:)

Watching the finale made me want to IMMEDIATELY start re-watching the series from the beginning. He is a brilliant writer. There were SO many threads that came back into play from previous seasons...

My biggest sob-fest moment was Jax's "I got this".... I literally wailed "OPIE!!!!"

Ugh. So good. SO. GOOD.

Sorry... I'm a little obsessed.

OMG if people are not smart enough to figure out the title that reads "Sons of Anarchy Finale" and not expect spoilers then well they deserve to be spoiled. Geez :lmao::rotfl2:.

Anywho .... the finale went as I expected. I really thought Chibs would have been the one to kill him due to the Mayhem vote but I am so glad he didn't. Jax died as he should have . . going out just like his ole man and on his ole mans bike. How poetic is that?

I will miss this show. I got on the train late and watched 4 Seasons via Netflix. But I have loved every minute of it. I am looking forward to seeing Kurt Sutter's new show.

The title is self-explanatary. Don't click if you didn't want spoilers.

Once a show has aired, it is fair game for discussion.

Don't worry TaylorEar, I'm a little obsessed, too.

SPOILERS BELOW

I wasn't surprised with Jax's death - as soon as I saw the homeless girl at the church, I knew it was right around the corner. I think the symbolism with the bread & wine at the church and again in the closing scene, along with the crows flying over and "Come Join the Murder" playing seemed a bit on-the-nose for me, but that could just be me being persnickety about subtlety. Sometimes Kurt Sutter is as subtle as freight train, though, so I don't know what I was expecting, haha.

I tried my best to stay off of Facebook last night (because I have a few friends who despise the show and love to post fake spoilers - they do that with The Walking Dead, too) since we got a late start and were watching it from DVR. But it was also my friend's birthday so I was keeping up with his shenanigans, and this one friend of mine posted "Chibs - nooooooooo!!" and I started crying right there. I now want to punch this person in the face. I get it, people should feel free to talk about whatever they want on Facebook, but to intentionally post fake spoilers like that is a really crass thing to do. /end rant

As far as re-watching the first seasons go, I did that periodically through last week leading up to the finale, and one thing I noticed that kept making me giggle was how high Jax's voice was in comparison to the final season. He sounds like he's on helium! I also noticed how much weight Tommy Flanagan (Chibs) and Theo Rossi (Juice) lost for the final season, too.

(ANOTHER 'KIND-OF' SPOILER AHEAD!!) <----not really necessary since it's old news, but still.

After 7 seasons, I still will not forgive Kurt Sutter for killing off Opie. I have never, NEVER cried over the death of a character the way I did for Opie. The spoiler-loving friend of mine that I mentioned earlier in this post had leaked Opie's death, so I had refused to watch the beginning of season 5 for that very reason. I finally watched it back in September before this season started, and holy moly. I was a wreck.

Now I have "series finale hangover" and am exhausted from staying up until 1am to watch Anarchy Afterword.

Who was the homeless woman? Was she a guardian angel? Did she represent death or resurrection (the bread and wine?)

YES!

So glad Chibs didn't have to pull the trigger. That whole scene reminded me of the crazy Pope-death scene, where I totally bought into the whole "OMG. Jax is gonna shoot TIG!" (was I the only one that bought that...??:sad2:)

I really loved the ending, and Jax's final resolution (LOVED that we finally got the final The Shield easter egg, to complete the Mackey/Lem/Shane trinity :lmao:)

I watched the after-show and one question I really wish somebody would have asked was about the shot of Abel in the car, playing with the "sons" ring... my initial response was that it's too late for Abel. He was old enough to remember who his Dad was, who his Grandma was... he was exposed to that life and was not going to buy into the whole "you should hate your Dad" narrative.

My OTHER thought during the after-show was, where the hell was Ron Perlman???? I was shocked that he didn't pre-tape a message... he didn't even tweet anything about the finale. It makes me wonder if he left the show on bad terms?

Also... I sobbed like a baby during Ryan Hurst's message... OPE!

again... I'm obsessed.

She's been around a lot on the show, IIRC (I'm still a little fuzzy from lack of sleep, so forgive me if I'm wrong). She's kind of an omen.

My bf called it last week when Jax gave Abel the ring. He was like, "Just watch, there's going to be a shot of Abel wearing the SONS ring before the show is over", and lo & behold, there was. I think Sutter wanted to show that there's a possibility of the Teller family returning to SAMCRO no matter how hard they try to get out, they get pulled back in. Abel was already exhibiting violent tendencies (pretty much a SAMCRO prerequisite to wear the patch), so it makes sense that he'd wanna be like his dad. Jax's poetic death, much like JT's, just perpetuated the cycle in my opinion.

Ok, seriously. REAL TALK.

I basically had a breakdown when Opie died. Like... full on Oprah-ugly cry. And I was SOOOOO pissed every time they did the "previously on..." and would show even a HINT of that... my dog was terrified of me because I would wail "OPIE!!!!!".

It's truly a testament to Kurt Sutter's writing. I have NEVER been so emotionally impacted by a character's death.

(Ok... we are not nuts, right? OTHER people are nuts for either 1. Not watching this show. or 2. Not having emotional breakdowns from watching this show.)

My take on the homeless woman is that she was representation of the Ghost of Hamlet's father. She was in ep. 12 during the 2nd truck-stop scene with Gemma - they showed her walking across the frame in the background, and that was when I thought, "ok. that's the ghost device"

I feel like I haven't fully digested the finale yet... UGH! NERO!!!!!!! JUICE!!!!!!! Too much.

(And yes... it's really hilarious how much Jax's voice changed throughout the seasons.... it's so bizarre to hear Charlie Hunham speak in his natural accent now!)

Gemma gave Abel that sons ring when she said goodbye to him at the pre-school fence. She dug it out of her jewelry box (I'm assuming it was JT's) in the scene where she was packing to leave. I definitely saw that as a clear-cut symbol... Gemma and Jax were on opposite sides, fighting for opposite things. I totally agree that the shot of Abel playing with the ring in the final episode was a statement - basically saying, "you can burn your journals, try to dictate your legacy... but it's too late. He was impacted. Gemma made her impact. You made your impact. He will remember what he remembers".

No, we're not nuts, we're just devoted fans. And what really sucked about Opie's death, is we kept getting reminded of it! Like when Lyla got the snot kicked out of her during the season 6 premiere episode and she kept wailing, "I want Opie!". I was like, "Listen, chickie, we all miss Opie. Stop re-opening old wounds! It feels like my heart just got torn open again, so thanks for that!".

See, this is what sleep deprivation does to a person. I meant Gemma, not Jax (durrrrr...).

No worries, I don't even watch the show - DH does. Now I just have to make sure I'm not the one that spoils it for him. Haha!

YES!!! :thumbsup2:hyper::):cheer2::flower3:princess::p (trying to figure out how many bizarro-emoticons I can use to convey YES!)

I was also yelling "LYLA! LET ME HEAL!!!!!!"

sleep deprivation is something I am also unfortunately familiar with... as I stayed up all night, watching the finale 3 times...:rotfl2:

RIP Jax Teller, Now a hood ornament on a Tractor Trailer. A very good show like the Soprano's where you cheered on the bad guy who fought against "badder" guys.

Yep. The great thing about the show was that it forced you out of the comfort zone of a clear-cut protagonist/antagonist formula.

Really... the character of Jax came full circle, in terms of spending the first 5-6 seasons as the protagonist, and then slowly evolving into the self-admitted antagonist.

Kurt Sutter really deserves some writing nominations for this past season. Not to mention the performances of ALL of the cast members.

THIS!! It says something about his writing abilities that you can have sympathy for, and empathy with, a group of people that you wouldn't dare look in the eye in the real world. I watched it real time last night, then spent the rest of the night replaying it in my dreams all night long. I'm so exhausted!!

Yes! Exhausted is the word.

You know the writing is good when it leaves you emotionally exhausted.

Absolutely. :worship: He made us feel things about people that we would avoid like the plague in real life. He challenged boundaries, gave us a look at a life that many people don't know exists.

I didn't get to watch it until this morning. DH and I went to bed right after his treatment last night, since he's recovering from his bout with the flu, and it's my turn with the aches and sore throat.

I cried. Oh, I cried at the end. I cried when Jax kissed his boys goodbye. I cried when the club voted mayhem. I felt like going :badpc: on the tv.
