Songs that mention a Dad

Never Gonna Feel That Way Again - Kenny Chesney

Practice dancin in my garage
Two left feet and a white corsage
Daddy let me borrow the dodge
Said don't bring her home on empty
Swung by and picked up Cindy Lou
Took her to the prom for a dance or two
Then we drove down to the water blue and that's where she kissed me

It was my life and it was fun
Another season of my life is done
Another race i'm glad I got to run
Another chapter of my life its over
No i'm never gonna feel like that again
Times rushin by me like the wind
Never be as young as I was then
no i'm never gonna feel like that again

I got a call one July day
Cindy Lou was in that way
Had a big decision to make
and I couldn't take it lightly
At first I thought of leavin town
but I couldn't let our families down
now I'm out here throwin this ball around
with a boy that looks just likes me

Watching You - Rodney Atkins

Driving through town just my boy and me
With a happy meal in his booster seat
Knowing that he couldn't have the toy
Till his nuggets were gone
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath
His fries went a flying and his orange drink covered his lap
Well then my four year old said a four letter word
That started with "s" and I was concerned
So I said son now now where did you learn to talk like that

He said I've been watching you dad, ain't that cool
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah we're just alike, hey ain't we dad
I wanna do everything you do
So I've been watching you

Elton John - The Last Song

Tomorrow leave the windows open
As fear grows please hold me in your arms
Won't you help me if you can to shake this anger
I need your gentle hands to keep me calm
`Cause I never thought I'd lose
I only thought I'd win
I never dreamed I'd feel
This fire beneath my skin
I can't believe you love me
I never thought you'd come
I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son

You Can Let Go Now Daddy

Wind blowing on my face
Sidewalk flying beneath my bike
A five year old's first taste
Of what freedom's really like

He was running right beside me
His hand holding on the seat
I took a deep breath and hollered
As I headed for the street

You can let go now, daddy, you can let go
Oh, I think, I'm ready to do this on my own
It's still a little bit scary but
I want you to know I'll be okay now, daddy, you can let go

I was standing at the altar
Between the two loves of my life
To one, I've been a daughter
To one, I soon would be a wife
When the preacher asked "Who gives this woman?"
Daddy's eyes filled up with tears He kept holding tightly to my arm
'Til I whispered in his ear

You can let go now, daddy, you can let go
Oh, I think, I'm ready to do this on my own
It's still feels a little bit scary but I want you to know
I'll be okay now, daddy, you can let go

It was killing me to see the strongest man I ever knew
Wasting away to nothing in that hospital room
You know he's only hanging on for you
That's what the night nurse said
My voice and heart were breaking
As I crawled up in his bed and said
You can let go now, daddy, you can let go
Your little girl is ready to do this on my own
It's gonna be a little bit scary but I want you to know

I'll be okay now, daddy, you can let go, you can let go

Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast by Wayne Newton

The love between the two of us was dying
And it got so bad I knew I had to leave
But halfway down that highway
When I turned around I saw
My little daughter running after me
Crying
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some
'Cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Now it broke my heart to tell my little daughter
That her daddy had to run to catch a train
She had no way of knowin' I was leavin' home for good
I turned around and there she was again
As she said to me
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
My darlin' cried
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some
'Cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
If only for the sake of my sweet daughter
I just had to turn back home right there and then
And try to start a new life with the mother of my child
I couldn't bear to hear those words again
She cried and said
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
My darlin' cried
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Oh, daddy, don't you walk so fast
(Daddy, don't you walk so fast)
My darlin' cried
(Daddy, don't you walk so fast)
Ah, daddy, slow down some
'Cause you're making me run

Hmm, I posted this song before for a different category thread. :scratchin

The Night Chicago Died
~ Paper Lace

Daddy was a cop
On the east side of Chicago
Back in the USA
Back in the bad old days

In the heat of a summer night
In the land of the dollar bill
When the town of Chicago died
And they talk about it still

When a man named Al Capone
Tried to make that town his own
And he called his gang to war
With the forces of the law

I heard my mama cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother what a night it really was
Brother what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my mama cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother what a night the people saw
Brother what a fight the people saw
Yes indeed

And the sound of the battle rang
Through the streets of the old east side
'Til the last of the hoodlum gang
Had surrendered up or died

There was shouting in the street
And the sound of running feet
And I asked someone who said
Bout a hundred cops are dead

I heard my mama cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother what a night it really was
Brother what a fight it really was
Glory be!

I heard my mama cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother what a night the people saw
Brother what a fight the people saw
Yes indeed

And there was no sound at all
But the clock upon the wall
Then the door burst open wide
And my daddy stepped inside
And he kissed my mama's face
And he brushed her tears away

The night Chicago died
The night Chicago died
Brother what a night the people saw
Brother what a fight the people saw
Yes indeed

Bon Jovi - Little Runaway

"Ooh she's a little runaway
Daddy's girl learned fast
Now she works the night away"

"Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn

Our local roller skating rink used to have adult skating on Tuesday afternoons, back in the late 80's/early 90's and this song was a favorite to skate to with my Dad. DH and I would go and Dad and Mom would too, Mom didn't skate (she used to, that's how they met, at a skating rink back in 1955) any longer but she would sit and watch. Dad was a beautiful skater, so graceful. I loved skating with him.

He's been gone over 5 years now, and I still tear up whenever this song comes on the radio:

I remember Daddy's hands, folded silently in prayer
And reaching out to hold me, when I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story, in the callouses and lines
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind

I remember Daddy's hands, how they held my Mama tight
And patted my back, for something done right
There are things that I've forgotten, that I loved about the man
But I'll always remember the love in Daddy's hands

Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands, were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands, weren't always gentle
But I've come to understand
There was always love in Daddy's hands

I remember Daddy's hands, working 'til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly, just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over, I'd live my life again
And never take for granted the love in Daddy's hands

Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands, were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands, weren't always gentle
But I've come to understand
There was always love in Daddy's hands

Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands, were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands, weren't always gentle
But I've come to understand
There was always love
In Daddy's hands
