We will be flying with Song from Boston to MCO, and reserved through an Irish travel agent. While checking out their website, I noticed that seats could be preassigned online. I emailed to get a seat assignment for myself, dh and two kids and was told that there were no seats together (only single seats scattered throughout the plane) and I would have to wait till check-in to see if they could do anything to help me. I have a 2yo and a 4yo, so it's vital that we at least get two seats together.

I have emailed them my concerns and they are trying to sort it out with their seat assigners, otherwise I just wait till check-in. Has anyone else had experience of this and how did it turn out? I'm getting really worried it's going to be a big deal and won't be sorted out till we're boarding and hoping the 'talent' can convince some people to swap seats:(

Any words of advice or encouragement greatly appreciated

Joanna

So you are saying your TA did not book the seat assignments?

Yes- she booked through Delta Ireland and was not given the option to get a seat assignment.

I think you need to contact the TA and get them involved. I assume you are in Ireland. Even if they booked thru DL Ireland there usually is a TA phone number that he/she can call to deal with issues with their clients and they should have called that to book your seats.

You have nothing to worry about because no one will want to sit next to your young children. They will jump to accomodate you just so they do not have to "babysit"!! Not because there is anything wrong with our kids, but people are not comfortable with other people's children - especially small ones like yours. Worse comes to worse, if this does not happen immediately, hint that one of them gets motion sickness - it will work miracles.

Very true. Although I have had no experience with Song specifically, I have NEVER had any problem with other passengers being willing to switch seats so our family could travel together.

Good luck.

Whenever we have had trouble with seats the agents at different airlilnes tell us they save lots of seats for gate check-in...the seats are released a few hours before flight time (they could probably tell you how many seats are saved---it is a lot---and how long before flight time...even if you had to get there early to check-in it would be worth it). We have gone from being in the back of the plane to bulkhead --

Did you say you checked your flight online and saw a bunch of open seats??? The only thing I can think of is that they are exit row seats and they will not allow children under the age of 15 to sit in one. I would however, put up a stink and see if they will accomodate you now. How could your TA book without seat assignments, they actually assign you your seat when you are booking your trip, I just did this the other night.

Call your TA or ask to speak with a supervisor at Delta and see if that helps.

GOOD LUCK!

if you go to www.flysong.com there is an option if you have your itinirary # to change seat assignment. You could try that too.

I had a similar problem but all worked out in the end.

When I checked in a MCO for our return to BOS, it seemed that the seats I had assigned to me (Row 11, ABCD) where not there. The agent at check-in stated that I would need to check at the gate as there was nothing he could do. Iwas not pleased because I really wanted us all to sit together (my wife and two kids) as well and did not want to spread throughout the plane.

I did check with the gate agent and there was no problem getting together. He was even able to move us a little closer to Row 7, ABCD.

What I am say is that they will make every effort to get you together. I travel a fair amount and have yet to see anyone get split up from their children.

Can someone answer a question for me?? If we get assigned seats for a flight and show up at the airport 1 1/2 hrs before departure, why would there be a problem with your seats not being available? I keep hearing of this happening and I'm starting to get worried. We usually get to the airport about 2 hrs. early. So I wouldn't think there would be a problem. If this keeps happening why don't the airlines just assign the seats when you show up? Like Southwest does.

If a different airplane is substituted at the last minute, seats could be numbered differently causing seat assignment problems.

Complicating matters is that Song's airplanes were taken from the Delta fleet but most of the rows were renumbered as the planes were refurbished for Song. If a Delta plane of the same size but not refurbished is rolled out, there are no rows numbered seven and eight and the rows behind the center door go something like 19 through 45 instead of 9 through 35. (There are other differences too).

My family is in row 8 on the way home.....can you explain what this means - no row 8 - we have no seats?

All Song aircraft have a row 8. Don't worry. What seashoreCM was saying was that in the unlikely event that the equipment is swapped for your Song flight, your seats will be reassigned as there is no row 8 on Delta's mainline 757's.

Sometimes, airlines are forced to swap equipment due to the aircraft not making it to the destination or mechanical trouble at the gate. Instead of canceling the flight altogether, the airline will swap the aircraft if available. Although Song and Delta fly the same 757's, Delta's is configured to only carry 176 passengers while Song's is configured for 199.

After all this planning and doing everything ahead of time .... now I have to worry that my family of 6 will be separated if the airplane changes!!!!

I dont like flying to begin with but to have my "babies" scattered around the plane away from me!!!!

Okay, all better - this will not happen - positive outlook - don't worry, wont be able to change it, what will be - will be..

Anyway of finding out beforehand whether this is going to happen or not!!!

There's no need to worry because there is nothing you can do about it anyway. Like I alluded to earlier, it's not a usual occurance. This is a last minute type thing so there is usually no way of knowing beforehand.
