Anyone ever travel to disney with a kid in a cast...my 10 year old just broke his wrist....what a bummer...just needed to vent...Ann

Dont sweat it. Go have fun. Maybe the charactures can sign his cast instead of a book.

How long will he be in a cast?

When my DS broke his wrist over the summer he was in a cast for 4 weeks and it took another week or so for him to be totally back to normal (whatever that is for a then 6 year old!)

Good luck either way!! I'm sure he'll have fun no matter what!

On our last trip, my 15-year old brother was in a cast up to his elbow. He got this plastic "arm" that covered his cast with an elastic ring right around the elbow. This allowed him to get in the pool like everyone else (it also helped with showers at home), in addition to riding Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. While he was a little embarrassed at first, he found that it was a great conversation starter.

If you're interested, I can try to find the real name of the cast-thing for you. Just post that you'd like the name and I'll attempt to find it.

Either way, it shouldn't stop you at all.

Thanks...someone else here at home talked about some sort of plactic cover that can be bought. Its just a bummer but we'll have to make the best of it. I guess a wrist is better than a an ankle...at least he can walk...lol...Ann

My DD-10 broke her wrist this summer right before we left for HH. We paid the extra money and got her a cast that she could get wet. She was allowed to swim and shower with it! The only thing she could not do is go to the beach. They said the sand and salt would make it itch. She did great with it. The trip would really have been a bummer, if she wouldn't have been able to swim. It was funny to see all the strange looks people gave her when she would jump in the pool with the cast.

A friend of mine recently broke her ankle & was fitted with one of the casts that you can get wet. I would contact your doctor & ask about this.

Oh can I relate! My dd broke her wrist a week before our trip. I asked the dr. about a waterproof cast but he did not recommend it for children (I kind of forget what his reasoning was on that one). But I went to a medical/surgical supply store and found a great cover (of course I forget the name) but it was a blue rubber covering and it had a pump on it. Once you put it over the cast you pumped out the air and it became like a vacuum seal. She swam every day and it never let in even a droplet of water.

The characters all made a big deal of her cast, which she loved, and Cinderella even asked if she could autograph her cast instead of her autograph book. I was just about to say that we didn't have a marker (her pen wouldn't have worked), when Cinderella "magically" pulled a gold Sharpie out of a pocket in her dress. We all "aaahed", this really is a magical place!

Hope your son is on the road to recovery, and have a great trip!

Trust me you can enjoy WDW in a cast. I broken my ankle and was in cast that walkable kind. Plus it was water proof. Also i could take it off and shower if I need to. While at WDW I took the cast to go swimming. I just got a float around in the pool and did put pressure on it. My got me a wheelchair when i got tired of walking.

DS broke his wrist this past fall and his pediatric orthopedist (who comes highly recommened) told me to get the xerosox, Melk, I think this is what you were describing, you are right it is great, very easy to use. It doesn't let in one drop of water and you don't have to deal with having a wet cast even if it is the type that you can go in the water with. It comes in several different sizes for full or half arm, even for legs. Also another cast tip, our orthopedist told us to dump 1 oz. of baby oil down the cast once a week, it really helps with the itching from dry skin. I worked in Physical Therapy for 12 years and never heard of this before, and from experience I could see that his skin was in good shape when the cast came off. It also smells a lot nicer.
