Very bizarre story unfolding in Waterbury, CT. Last week a man claimed to have gotten a call from someone telling him his wife who is serving in Iraq was killed. The news reports then became that this was a hoax and many people felt sorry for the fellow. The wife had also worked at the Waterbury Police Dept. before her deployment (I think she's in the Guard) and they had become a central place where people were sending money and support for the man and his children because of this cruel hoax.

Fast forward -- Today they discovered that the real hoax is that the husband concocted this story about a hoax. It's all just him. No donations had left the police station yet and they don't think it was about money. The man has been arrested. It sounds like he's unstable and also they mentioned another woman might be involved.

So strange and so sad for the children.

When that story first was on the news I told DH right away the guy was lying. Especially when he stated that on his cell phone it said "unknown" with no number. All the calls I have gotten on my cell have a number attached to them.

I thought he probably was looking to sue the government or something.

Obviously he was a complete idiot.

That reminds me of something that happened in Dallas a couple of weeks ago. A man found a woman in the trunk of her car with a gun shot through her hand and she said that a man had carjacked her, locked her in the trunk, and shot her. The only description she had of him was that he had a gruff voice. Well, eventually the truth came out that the woman shot HERSELF in the hand and locked HERSELF in the trunk and made up the whole thing! CRAZY people!

That's a horrible thing to lie about......:(

I read the initial story but hadn't heard the follow up. The cell phone not showing a number happens to me alot. It comes up Anonymos. It's too bad this guy did this. It sounds like he wanted attention.

No excuse for his behavior - but I read in the newspaper that he was feeling very overwhelmed taking care of 3 kids while his wife was in Iraq and was hoping they might send her home.

On the news here they said that he was saying she had died so he could meet women who didn't want to be with a married man.

It was in our paper this morning as well. The article stated that he was interested in starting a relationship with a woman who was not interested in getting involved with a married man. The whole thing is very sad:(

I just read that in the newpaper
that is just so bizarre
too bizarre for words

The poor kids :( What a bizarre thing for this man to do

FYI

Waterbury, CT is the same city that produced a mayor who recently got caught having sex with children and is now in jail and the city where the now Governor of CT, who is in his own hot water for improprieties is originally from (among other dramas)

There clearly must be something in the water!!
LOL!!

I went to college there........ definitely not a town I care to return to any time soon.... must be the water!..............(hope I'm not hurting any feelings out there!).......P
