Something Borrowed, Blue, COLD & New - A Disney Wedding Extravaganza! Update: 11/15 (pg. 15)

Following along! I loved your engagement trip report.

Congratulations on your wedding and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Gosh, I would have been so antsy waiting so long for the flight. Thank goodness they got a flight attendant to cover!

So fun when random dimmest happen!

Following along! Sounds like it’s off to a great start. We are going this year the day after Christmas to the day after New Years so I was excited to see they were open until 3 am. It’s been a while since we’ve seen those kind of hours. Can’t wait for more!

We had so much stuff to take due to this being a two week long trip and lugging all our wedding stuff, so I had to be very creative in how I packed to make sure nothing would get broken and our suitcases stayed underweight.

Oh boy, this must have been a bit of a challenge. Nathan kept pestering me about how we should fly for our wedding trip, and he was probably right, but I didn't want to have to worry about this. (That, and I had all these romantic notions about how fun a 3-day road trip would be. ....Hahahahah!!) Good on you guys for getting everything for a wedding and a trip packed and onto an airplane!!

It was pretty late by the time I finally went to bed. My mom was going to drive us to the airport the next morning, so we had told her our plan of leaving our house at 5:45am. At 5:52am, she called my phone and woke us up – Luke’s alarm didn’t go off. So, it was a pretty frantic few minutes of pulling on clothes, grabbing our last minute items to be packed (cell phone chargers, etc), and then trying to load all our luggage into my SUV as quickly as possible.

Oh no!! That's SO stressful! Glad your mom had your back there!

Once she was finished, she told us to follow her and she escorted us to the front of the line. We easily saved 20-30 minutes in line just by being randomly selected! Go us!

This is awesome! The exact same thing happened to me on my last flight home (recently, from Toronto.) I was kind of internally grumbling inside my head about having been selected, even though I obviously had nothing to hide, and then when he put me at the front of a security line I was like..."Woah! Nevermind! Thanks, kind sir!"

Also, Splash Mountain was our very first ride at Walt Disney World back on our 2016 trip, so it just felt right for it to be the first ride on this trip.

I love this! (And not just because Splash is my favourite of all time.) Great picture, too!

Following along too!

We spent Christmas Day at my mom’s house (where she once again spoiled us by buying us a red KitchenAid stand mixer – something I’ve been eyeing up for years despite the fact I don’t cook),
Oooh, I have a bright pink one - they are amazing!

We headed over to our gate as it approached boarding time, only to hear an announcement that our flight would be delayed due to one flight attendant not being there. Remember how cold I mentioned it was that morning? Apparently her car wouldn’t start, so she was going to catch a taxi to the airport. Ok, fine. My car is brand new and we own a garage, and it wasn’t happy about starting that day, so it’s something out of that flight attendants hands.
Oh boy! So, once I was in Phoenix at a hotel and there was a fire (electrical-no injuries), so everyone was evacuated. There ended up being a pilot and 2 flight attendants in the hotel. The pilot and one flight attendant had dressed and grabbed all their luggage before evacuating (down about 20 stories). The third one did what she was supposed to do, and left without everything! So the flight ended up being delayed until the Fire Department could escort her back up to her room and get her clothes and safety manual. There were also some people in the hotel who were worried about missing their flight, until they realized-that was their flight crew! So the pilot and flight attendants made sure to bring them along to the airport to get them on the flight!

Eventually, our final flight attendant arrived and received a round of applause. Boarding began shortly afterwards. We were in row 12, an emergency exit row so we were able to be among the first group to board the plane, which was nice since we had so many things and it allowed us time to get situated for a long flight.
Nice and nice!

Excellent choices for your first ride of the trip! We love sitting in the back row for coasters - it's definitely the best place to be on Big Thunder (and a few other things ... we really like it on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train too)

Following!

Thank you for reading!

Yeah, I was so excited to get this trip started, but there wasn’t much we could do! The US Terminal at our airport is also pretty small, so there wasn’t even a lot to do to pass the time.

Following along! :wave2:

Yay! Welcome!

Thanks for joining! Hope you have a great trip - it’s going to be busy! If you can, try to take advantage of the late nights, the crowds did thin out a bit.

We had SO MUCH STUFF! We had four full size bags to check (like the 28" inch or whatever), plus we each had a personal item and a carry-on item. And every bag was stuffed. I hate traveling that heavy, but we had to do what we had to do haha, weddings require so much (and in the grand scheme of things, we kept it fairly simple!). Luckily I do have the WestJet Mastercard, so our first checked bag was free for each of us, so that helped with the cost of luggage haha.

Hahaha, I always have these grand ideas about road trips, but I end up hating life every single time.

Oh no!! That's SO stressful! Glad your mom had your back there!

Yep, nothing like a minor heart attack to start your vacation off right!

Yeah, I was thinking I was being randomly searched, then I'd have to go to the back of the long line - I was very pleasantly surprised when she put me at the front! We even knew we had lots of time and would have been fine in the giant line, but I would much rather be sitting down on the other side of security eating Quiznos.

I love this! (And not just because Splash is my favourite of all time.) Great picture, too!

Thanks! MK is our first park on our December trip, so I'm trying to convince Luke and my Dad that Splash needs to be our first ride again!

Following along too!

Welcome!

*Drops head in shame* We still haven't taken it out of the box... we have no place to put it, because obviously it needs to be on display!

I can only imagine the grumblings of the people waiting at the airport! That's a crazy story!

Nice and nice!

Emergency exit row is so worth it, but I'm cheap and refuse to pay to upgrade - we always just test our luck at getting those seats when we check in online 24 hours beforehand (WestJet makes them a free upgrade at that point!)

Thanks! We were happy we were able to get those as Fastpasses, since it was a busy week and it was our first day!

WHAT I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU STARTED THIS AND DIDN'T THROW UP THE BAT SIGNAL!!!! :scared1:

I'm so excited I found it and can't wait to catch up!

Following along. How exciting, what a wonderful trip planned. Can't wait to see wedding pictures! Congrats!!

Hello again! Following along. I will try to comment when I can, but I've been much busier at work than I used to be. I will certainly read along!

Just curious, did you do on line check in for POP Century? Like you mention, us Canadian can't get our Magicbands before hand, so I wonder is there much benefit to online check in for us? You may notice form my ticker I am finally going back to WDW in August, staying at All Star Music (free dining...score!).

One of your cats sitting in the CrockPot had me dying laughing. So did the photo of them helping you pack. (But I'm a Cat Lady, so that shouldn't be surprising.)

I am the WORST about remembering to take a photo during a DisMeet, especially unexpected ones. I just get so caught up in the excitement! Without even trying too hard, I can think of at least five DisMeets off of the top of my head where a photo never even dawned on me. (Thankfully for four of those, the other person remembered so photos were had!)

You're here now, that's the most important thing!

Thanks for joining in! My work has been crazy busy too, so I totally understand!

I did online check-in just so I could request a certain building (at the time, only certain buildings at Pop had been renovated, so I made a request for the 80's or 90's section). For All Star Music - you can request things like "Ground Floor", " Highest Floor", "Near Elevator", etc. I always like to make requests (we've stayed at Old Key West a few times now, and since it's such a large resort we like to request "Close to transportation".

Also - you're getting so close to your trip! How exciting!

I love the crazy creatures so much

December 30th, 2017 - Part Three

After our ride with some small men mining for jewels, we started making our way to the front of the park. Of course, I had to stop to take more castle pictures along the way, the Christmas lights are my favourite!

We walked down Main Street –

and checked in for our 9:20pm dining reservation at Tony’s.

Tony's Review

After our meal, we stopped for our first (of many) Photopass pictures of the trip.

We still had some time before the fireworks display at midnight, and the hub around the castle wasn’t too crowded yet, so we spent some time just walking around, soaking everything in. We knew the show started about 10 minutes before midnight, but we didn’t head over to the Hub until about 11:35. Since it was just the rehearsal for the real NYE, and they had shot off the same fireworks earlier that evening (I believe at 6pm, before we arrived at the park), we were able to get a really great spot to stand and watch from – and less than a 15 minute wait until it started!

I don’t consider myself a huge fan of fireworks (don’t let the number of times I watched Happily Ever After on this trip fool you haha), but this show – whoa. Just, whoa. Incredible. I would never in a million years brave the crowds on NYE to see it, but in a decent-sized crowd on December 30th? Absolutely.

Once the fireworks ended, I decided I was ready to leave. The park was open until 1am, with Extra Magic Hours until 3am, but I was exhausted after travelling, and just wanted to go to sleep. We probably should have went and waited in line for something, it ended up taking quite awhile to get down Main Street and out of Magic Kingdom to the buses. Of course I had to stop for a picture of the train station with the red and green Christmas lights…

But, we made it to the bus stop eventually and didn’t have too long of a wait for a bus to take us back to Pop Century. It was after 1am by the time we got to our room though, I was falling asleep on my feet and crashed pretty quickly. Day one was in the books!
Total Fitbit Steps: 7820 (not bad considering how much time we spent sitting in the airport to start the day...)
