metro - whatcha watching in that new DVD? we need to finish the encore performance of Transformers (which i fell asleep watching last Saturday)

tracie - finally got my case of Landshark:thumbsup2 , guy @ the distributor begged us to open it up so he could see what the bottle looked like:confused3 ; he was convinced it'd have a cool looking shark on it.:lmao: he was so disappointed, then asked what it tasted like...told him to go buy his own lol. fyi, I was told it was $13 @ Sams in MCO, in beautiful balmy Pittsburgh it was more than double...yet a $1 cheaper than Corona. :teacher: Yet another reason to move to Florida...cheap beer.

ps we've gotten less than 40 inches of snow thus far this season, but got a gas bill today in excess of $500 for last month:scared1: (themostat is set on 65 degrees):upsidedow

More than $500 for your gas bill:scared1: ....not to mention that you had an electric bill on top of that! I thought my $230 electric bill was bad for last month and I'm all electric! Yes, the south is a great place to live, Florida would be even better for us!

Hi, I'm awake, barely!

Janet, to answer your question, only one person of our current 7 likes to work days. I guess the first reason is that there is a 10% differential when you work evenings or midnights. So, RIP #3-in-waiting (yes, there are ALREADY RIP #1 and RIP #2!!!!!) would be messing with people's $$$ by saying he's ONLY working off-tours. Also, the "politics" of day tours suck ... customers come during the day, all the top management is around, etc.

For those of you who missed what RIP means here, I am not talking about our beloved RIP tours during HHN. RIP is reserved for the old-timers in my group who are "Retired in Place." They think they are entitled to be since they have 30-40 years of "service." My group isn't a good place to do that since if you're late or not doing your job or don't show up when you feel like it, you are screwing someone else. It's not like something will just get done when you get to it. Someone must cover for you, and we have pretty strict requirements around govt reporting, so it's not a good place to "sit back" and relax and let someone else do it. Personally, it drives me crazy, because the RIPs get their first choice of vacation weeks and hog all the holiday weeks AND they get paid more since they've been there longer. (BTW, some of you know RIP #2 better as FUG!). They try to soften the blow by saying, "Someday you'll have 35 years of service and you too can have Christmas week off." Nice. Hopefully IF I ever have 35 years of service, I'll still be doing my job, and by "job" I mean doing more than just showing up.

Sorry for the ranting ... that is only a small portion of what's going on at work right now. I need a vacation. :)

Glad your ma is doing well, Janet!! Baby steps. 2 canes = better than 1 walker!

Happy Birthday to Matt and Royce!

Rose, glad your dad is out of surgery. Let us know when he's out of ICU!

Penny, it never occurred to me that Mother Nature could get the Darwin Award! Very funny!

Todd, did you get to the SPCA?

DM, I think I've seen your picture somewhere before. ;) Tracie and I will be stalking you in late April or early May. Be prepared, though I know I don't respond well to Mace. Save that for Tracie. :rotfl2:

Mary, keep the review of the SNB coming!

/
jodie - gotcha as to the RIPs, know my better half tends to sign up for all holidays (if i let him;) ) for the triple time.

reminds me of when i 1st met DH, told me he had the following day off work. When I questioned him, got the following: when negotiating the 'master' contract many years ago a deal was forged to pay for X amount of holidays...which wound up being 1 more than what is considered the normal US ones. The lead negotiator (Mr. Foley, now departed)decided to pick his birthday, henceforth all of the workers have had Foley Day as a holiday. :thumbsup2 least he's remembered fondly lol

ma's doing a regular lazarus - again...old bird still got some kick to her:flower3: ; i told her to take it sloooow & easy...where's she gotta go in a hurry at this point?

if you add my electric bill to the gas bill, it's more than my mortgage pmt:confused3 February is always the worst

off to tip a few landsharks & dream of the view from citiwalk @ night...sigh.

No, his birthday is in November, but the package was supposed to be for his 18th birthday....I think they're a few years late!

I forgot to ask...WHO was it from?

Well all, I guess I am off to bed. I am beat. I left the house at noon and Sreturned home at about 9. Constant running for last minute carnival stuff then to the gym to start setting up. Tomorrow I have to blow up 300 balloons!:headache: Then head back to finish setting up and then get the carnival started. We will probably get home about midnight. I think I will stay in bed all day Sunday!

Have a great weekend everyone!

How did the carnival go? I am sure you are quite tired....IF you are even still in an upright position

Penny - if you are counting - we now only have 20 days left until Spring.

At this point....who isn't counting?

Barb - My thoughts on the tanning issue. If your area is like most, there are plenty of tanning salons. For me, (an uninformed tanner), I would want the employees to be tanned and tell me about the beds and the lotions. The best way for you to do this, is for you to use them. And yes, once a week tanning isn't going to get you a good tan. I think the employee discount off a package deal is the best option. Around here you can pay $X and get unlimited tanning for a certain length of time ( 3months, 6 months, year). From one business owner to another - tell him to give you a discount - helps morale and will help him "advertise" his business to the customers.:thumbsup2

Thanks for agreeing with my thoughts. Many, many years ago (pre-Bubba days) I owned my own hair salon...with tanning. So, i am pretty educated in the field...something the owner is not. He is a 50-ish man who owns other businesses....one is a sandwich shop  I ran a successful salon and know what you have to do to keep customers AND employees happy.... I'll be stopping by the salon tomorrow on my way to grocery store (cuz it's in the same shopping center) and will talk to the mgr. and see if she talked to him.....AND I will tell her all my friends in the box agree with me...... (how looney will THAT make me look? :confused3 :lmao: )

The Daniel story from last night...

Joshua was setting up his Star Wars action figures and having battles (or whatever goes through his imagination when he's playing). He would get the figures all lined up on the coffee table and then Daniel would come along and swipe them all off with his arm while yelling, "HEE-YAH!"

Daniel thinks he's doing what he sees Joshua do.

Joshua thinks Daniel is a pain in the butt because he won't leave his stuff alone.

I distract Daniel and get him to play with me... building puzzles, which is one of his favorite things right now. As soon as I get Daniel interested in something else, Joshua will call Daniel and ask if he wants to play with him.

I tried to explain to Joshua that he can't have it both ways. Daniel is too young to understand how to play the way Joshua wants to play. SOOOO, he can either let Daniel knock his figures around, OR I will get him to leave him alone. It's tough for Joshua because he wants to play with Daniel, he just doesn't want Daniel to mess with his stuff.

Ah yes...first of many... But, if you think about it, Joshua doesn't KNOW he can't have it both ways until it's explained to him.... Something I learned rather quickly. When Bubba was about 2-3 years old, we were on our way out. He 'almost' jumped in a very deep puddle...luckily I stopped him in time. I told him not to jump in that puddle...he asked "why not" It was at that moment I realized, he really didn't know what WOULD happen if he did. So, I explained the consequence of jumping in that puddle, and when we got home, let him do it. He "got it" then.... What we take for common sense the boys have to learn....and they will....Hopefully Daniel will learn how to play nicely with Joshua quickly....but till then....Good luck my friend!

Morning All!!

Barb - hope you get everything squared away with the tanning job. I would think that the owner would want the employees to sell his product, so a 50% off package is more than reasonable.
And yeah - I picked today as it is March 1st.....want to lose 20-25 pounds in 60 days....think I can do it?? (Believe me that is just the "tip" of the iceburg though)

Anyone else looking to lose a few pounds with me here? I know the pup is going to love the longer walks every day....

Hey Traaaacieeeee....how about that massive snow Friday nite...huh?? :confused3  What was a 'storm' all week, was an "Alberta clipper" this morning....

I'll lose a few with ya....I missed my Wed AND Thurs nite workout cuz I was helping Bubba with multiplication table....long story, but when I talked to him Friday on the phone after skool, I asked how he did and he said, "I'm not gonna tell ya....but I will say 'practice paid off'" :thumbsup2

I lost 3 lbs when I was sick....that put me in range of needing to lose about 5lbs. to reach my goal....I think I can do it. Warmer weather only motivates me MORE. I'll think of you out there walkin' pupper while I'm sleeping..... :cloud9:

I am probably going to be watching them during the summer two days (along with their new little sister) on top of that I have my 3 and the other little girl that I have had since she was 3.....This summer will prove to be a challenge.

Hey - I have a 31 foot deck, you think if I glued all of them a few feet apart I would be ok??!!?? I promise I would turn the sprinkler on every now and then to keep them cool :upsidedow

Good thing you have a pool with all those kids that'll be there  Yikes! Good luck...and if you go MIA, we'll know why

I would say 'attaching' the kids to the deck would be ok...as long as they are fed, cool and have potty breaks :thumbsup2

Sounds like a plan to me! As long as you toss them snacks and hose them down every so often, why not?

:rotfl:

::yes:: see?? :rotfl2:

Happy Saturday morning everyone!

Hope everyone got a chance to sleep in and rest up!

Going to look at open houses today...wish us luck!

Sorry I'm late wishing you 'happy house hunting' :( ...but I hope it went okay for ya. I'm sure you won't find something right away, but don't get discouraged, what is meant to be, will be. Look around and get a feel for what's out there in your price range ;)

And, what's this about "sleeping in"?? By 10:30am, I was already at work for a bit and on my 4th client ....lol....

.....I still have a bad feeling that sometime VERY soon me, Barb, Jodie, Mike, etc are gonna get SOCKED with the snow.

SHHHHHH :scared:

Barb, the owner of the salon is drinkin from a cup o the crazy ... he should make it so that you WANT to use his products and lotions. #1. You need to be knowledgeable about each booth/bed and lotion. #2. WTH does it say if you have to go some place ELSE to tan because you can get a better deal elsewhere??? I know I would NOT tan somewhere if the salon's employees tanned elsewhere on a regular basis. AND, how friggin cheap? There are only, what, 6 of you (I didn't count) .. it's not like he's letting 20 employees tan. That is just ridiculous. It is lousy business practice, IMHO.

Thanks...glad you see it my way too... He just doesn't "get" the tanning industry....he's a good businessman, but doesn't really know anything about 'tanning'. Actually, we have 2 other "chain" tanning salons in the immediate area, and WE have the best prices.... of course....but, my point is "what is my incentive to spend my money HERE?" Why should I give him my money? I'm curious to hear if the mgr. spoke with him...will find out tomorrow....

Tracie, you are sweet to ask. New guy hasn't started yet. I am not sure what his start date is going to be, but he flat out told me that he's not bringing anything to the team (he doesn't know the technology or systems we're responsible for) AND he told me that he's only "hanging out" at his new place on our team until he can collect social security in 2-3 years. Lovely. And don't get me started how he tried to put a condition on his "employment" with us saying that he couldn't work day tours. I, along with a few other teammates, put the kabosh on that (my manager would've had a mutiny on his hands) If you can't rotate and work all 3 tours, that doesn't fly. Apparently, sitting on your butt and doing nothing while you collect a pay check does. I HATE the RIPs!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, I didn't have a say in whether or not to hire this jerk. (Now, aren't you glad you asked?! )

I'm sorry all. I am going to bed. xx

Tell me again why mgmt. decided to hire FUG #2?? :confused3

Barb - Girl you work yourself to death. I don't know how you do it, working 2 jobs. Hopefully, the new boss will get his act together soon. At this point, it doesn't sound like he's going to be good to work for.

Now for me.... Still haven't been to the dr, but I'm improving slowly. My DS is in a play (Arsenic & Old Lace), & last night was opening night. Naturally, I had to be there. I had to take a pillow to sit on. He didn't care, as long as I'm there. I'll be going again tonight & tomorrow, pillow in hand. Sometimes, a mom just has to do what a mom has to do.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Good to see you back  I can't believe you are gonna be stubborn and not go to the doctor  I understand you need to be there for son...totally....(what a trooper!) What part does he have in the play? I remember our class in high skool putting on the same play....wonder if it's an "easy" pick? Seems like a lot of skools do that play at one point or another :confused3 Please take care of yourself....your family would want you to.

Ya know...some days I don't know how I do it :lmao: Some days at the salon are slower, so some days I might not go in till early afternoon (I rarely work mornings on Tues/Fri at the salon)...but, my clientele are more afternoon/evening peeps....Saturday is even my least busy day! :confused3 Some Saturdays I can get outta there by noon....others (like today), I was there till 2:30....that's the thing with my (hair) job, the hours are not regimented or dependable.....you work when the demand is there.

Hey Homies!
I slept late this morning....I'm still trying to recover from last weekend! Mac needs to check in soon or we're going to have to go looking for her!

Hey Tammy! We just finished getting the darn thing in the house on Thursday night (it was a pain in the butt!). DH spent last night cleaning it and putting about half of the bulbs in (it has 46). We broke some starters and some bulb holders moving it 1000 miles from Florida to Arkansas and I ordered them yesterday. We also have to install a 220 outlet for it. Hopefully, we will have it in operation SOON! But I LOVE it...We got a GREAT deal on it, so GREAT that we couldn't pass it up and hey a day at US/IOA! What can I say.....I started tanning in January and I have until March 20 to tan where I've been going. I think I'm pretty dark...I look darker in person than I look in the pics from Saturday that I posted.

I don't think I ever mentioned: one year while visiting BIL in Fla, I noticed SIL had a tanning bed...in her BEDROOM! Didn't quite understand why...they owned a gym and had tanning there?? :confused3

Anyhow...I expect you to be tanner than I Miss Alison....Enjoy...but be careful! Oh...and good luck with that electric bill :rolleyes1

Barb, I think they should let you tan for half price too! Yes, it is good advertising for the employees to have good tans, and what does he have to lose by letting you buy lotions at cost plus shipping? All it would mean for him would be that you would have more knowledge of the products and he might have to place an order earlier than he planned...I buy my lotion on eBay. Oh yeah, and DH says that you and I have been smokin' crack, tellin' Lawrence to ride Dueling Dragons....even he knows Lawrence has back problems!

Thanks for agreeing with me.... can't seem to find anyone who sees things from the boss' viewpoint :confused3 I never thought to purchase lotions on eBay  :lmao: Wonder who's selling that sorta stuff???

And tell Tim I ain't smokin' anything
5.gif
....i was just wondering if there was another reason Lawrence wasn't ridin' DD :confused3

Look for the seagull with the namebadge.

ah-ha  THAT helps.....

I didn't go anywhere exciting today. I forgot that FedEx is supposed to delivery my new DVD player today but so far....nothing and of course they want a signature!

So, I guess the SPCA was out then? Glad you finally got it and it's running....guess the old one was non-repairable? (I didn't think FedEx and UPS worked on the weekends?)

Hi all-
Update on my dad. He is doing well after surgery. He is in ICU since he came back from surgery last night.

That's good to hear Rose....see the "Power of the Dust" :rolleyes1 ;)

quick checkin...forgot to mention i believe mac has a housefull of sickies on her hands, probably busy playing nurse.

uh-uh :sad2: Something else is up....just sickies won't keep her from us....AND Mr. Mac takes care of himself...remember?

Thanks for agreeing.... Do tell the Hollywood rip-off story :hyper: ...wonder what "at the mgrs discretion" meant?

Tons of questions....MY big concern is that the new cameras don't have 'eye pieces' (just the flipout screen that are LCD)...what if the sun is to my back and I can't see (on the screen) what I'm recording? :confused3 It's a lot of money to be spending, so we want to be sure of return policies and what we're getting.... :thumbsup2

Dear Joshua,
No, you cannot trade Daniel in or send him back. I told everyone for years my little sister was adopted. In 11 or so years, you will appreciate him more when you come in late on Saturday nite and missed curfew and need a good story so Mom and Dad dont realize you were out real late and you dont wanna get the dog barking and the whole house in an uproar and you need him to let you know if he can smell licquor on you or do you need to try one of those mints, or gum , or food to get rid of the smell or Mom will throw a fit and kill you. You will aprreciate him. Believe me.
Also, make sure he lets you know how far down the street to kill the engine and coast into the driveway before sharp ears Dad hears you pulling in. You wanna remember that.
Dad does not miss much.

metro - whatcha watching in that new DVD?
I'm actually watching stuff that my old DVD player wouldn't play...I hope to catch up tomorrow.

Todd, did you get to the SPCA?
No...I still have a bad taste in my mouth and unfortunately going to a different shelter wouldn't have helped.

So, I guess the SPCA was out then? Glad you finally got it and it's running....guess the old one was non-repairable? (I didn't think FedEx and UPS worked on the weekends?)
I love it...it's actually PLAYING DVDs that I haven't seen before thanks to my old piece of crap. UPS and FedEx run on the weekends but it costs extra for the shipper. I could have waited until Monday but getting it today was fine too.
