Putting on banking hat (worked in commercial real estate dept of bank for many years) - as for reward cards tied into CC,
*i've just started to use Discover to run some stuff through - had 5X value on travel charges for the next 3 months & a low interest rate.
*Juniperbank/Barclay has a signature line of credit card that easily gets you vouchers on AirTran. Every $1K = 1 point; 8 points equal 1 way. Much easier to redeem now that you can book reward travel directly online. Interesting thing about this CC is that the maximum allowable credit line is not reported on your credit report...which can be an issue when debt to income is high or even to disguise large available lines of credit when soft pulls are done on your credit report.
*WaMu/Providian has standard reward program, DH uses off & on; we do carry a small balance of this card; appears as though you get rewards points for said existing balance each month - odd. Checked it the other week & found we had enough points for a gift card.
*I like Chase Disney, transferred a balance for 1.99 rate a few years ago. Know Chase has many offerings/reward programs; perhaps you could just ask to switch it over to keep the credit rolling. Always better to not close the card, just put it aside. If for some reason you really want to terminate the relationship; be sure to ask that they flag your credit report as "closed at customer's request".
