It was a rare thing for me to have done all that so early. I am NOT a morning person. I'd rather stay up until after the kids have gone to bed than get up before them.

I hear ya...I'm the same way! :thumbsup2

Yes, the pic looked like Brad. You know, when he & I first started dating and he wore his hair longer, he used to get "You look like Willy Wonka" (Gene Wilder) all the time. Now that he's older and cuts his hair a little shorter, those comments have all but stopped.

:lmao: never thought about THAT resemblance before

I couldn't believe the baby registry when I printed it out at Babies R Us. SEVEN PAGES! I looked down the list thinking, "She doesn't need half this crap." She had 3, count them, THREE different kinds of strollers. I bought her a Boppy Pillow. That DID come in handy for me. My mom was with me and she said, "Are you going to buy her the cover for it."
Ummm... no. The pillow alone costs $25. The cover costs... $25. Huh? I love her and all, but I ain't spending $50 for a shower gift
.

:rotfl2: yep... we had the 'generic' version of the Boppy, and I would agree....thing that was most convenient and used all the time! :thumbsup2 The experienced Moms will realize the same thing you did...she won't need 3/4 of what she registered for..but they tell you to put it on the list, cuz ya never know what people are lookin' to spend :confused3 And, you should have said to your Mom, "After all Joshua's fundraisers, I can't afford another $25!" :rolleyes1

In searching my way back through the pics, I thought you would get a kick out of these from Halloweens past (pre-kids):

There ya go bein' all 'brave' again....LOVE the costumes!!!! ;)

Oh, and the cow one.... if I wasn't aware of the "stories" :rolleyes1 ....... funny how things come back to hauntcha :confused3

(and YES, i see that vodka in the cow pic :thumbsup2 )

I still don't see the Willy Wonka resemblance tho.....must be a "certain" look/smile and camera angle :confused3

Okay guys - Day 16 is complete and so is the trip report!!

Day 16 - Return to Reality

So for those of you who didn't want to read it in installments - head over and read the whole thing at once (incidentally, in Word, without pics, it's 56 pages long! :scared1: ) !

Ummm, I think I have that same Minnie outfit.... I was 13 years younger and 20 pounds lighter than I am now though ... :guilty: And, I think I lost a bet and had to wear it to work for an hour over lunch break. My friend Dina had to dress as a cat. My boss, who was a big, dirty old man made me take a picture with him. JIM SAVOLD, IF YOU ARE OUT THERE, YOU CAN STILL DROP DEAD, YOU PIG.

You, Tricia, however, look great!

Anyway, hello, friends. What is everyone doing on this Saturday night?

I interrupt this thread to announce that ....

ahemmm, can I have your attention, please???

I do not brag often. Really, I don't ... do I?

Anyway ...

I AM CURRENTLY 6-FOR-6 IN GIVING ALEXANDER GRAHAM CAT HIS PILL!!!!!

Woo-hoo!

Oh, yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

When I lose my job as a network manager (because I once again told off some nimwit who bugs me today at work), I am going to become a professional cat pill-giver.

That's right. A per-pill charge + modest travel expenses will apply.

Thank you. Think I'll start running my ad tomorrow. Let's see how many calls I get.

Woo hoo! Good job Jodie! We had 2 cats, who were 17 in April. We had to put one of them down the day before (what would have been) her 17th birthday. She'd had a stroke last August and several seizures afterwards. We had to give her Phenobarbital twice a day. Luckily this was a very small pill, so what we ended up doing (after not being successful like you - even if we got it down she'd always hack it back up) was mashing the pill up into powder, mixing it in a teaspoon of canned cat food, locking her up in a small room (so her sister couldn't eat it) and not giving her any other food until she finished that small amount. All kinds of fun!

Anyways, I'm doing nothing exciting this evening - how's about you? We just got back from a long bike ride with a whiny 14 year old ("How much looonnger? When are we getting hooome? Why doesn't Mattttt have to come? I'm boooored"). It was 70 and sunny and just beautiful out and we stopped at several parks, waded in a river, rode through the woods and across rivers, stopped and looked in several new houses being built, and yet all he did was whine! Sigh - the joys of having a teenager!

Hi Marcie! I hear you. I used to think I was getting Ali's pills down, but then I'd find those dang pills a day or 3 later when I'd go to vacuum. But, after 6 days and I haven't found one yet, I am feeling quite proud of myself. I've watched him swallow, checked his mouth, and then watched him lick his lips, and I think I am good. Haven't found a pill yet! He is very funny trying to give him liquid meds ... he gurgles it out into an unbelievable string of bubbles and has learned to blow raspberries -- so this is why I opted for the solid pills.

I think it's great you teach your kids to be active and do family activities! :) So often, I think the obesity crisis in kids is taken too lightly. I was never fat as a kid (and I do thank God for that). I struggle now, but can't imagine how bad it would be if my parents hadn't taken an active role in getting me involved in physical activities.

So, I just got done reading a really great book that made me laugh and cry and that I couldn't put down. It was called "You're Not You" by Michelle Wildgen. Now, I am sad I am done with it. It was about a young college student who becomes a care-giver for an ALS patient. Very, very good.

And, I have wanted to say that I am sorry that I don't always respond to everyone individually. Sometimes I have a hard time keeping up, and it's easier for me to be in a chat room type setting instead of reading and catching up and responding. I do try to read most everything though, and even if I don't respond personally, I am thinking of all of you.

And, while I am at it, there is a relatively inexpensive (as in you should be able to find it for around $10, give or take $2, depending upon where you are) that is sweet and delicious and awesome. I am hoping to get a little tired aided by some Columbia Crest Riesling. Some Rieslings can be a bit dry. Some too sweet. But this one is perfect, and I haven't met anyone who's hated it yet. Happy times.

late checkin - bye mac, be well, have fun, take pics:banana:

barb - i heard about the sheetz & the drive in beer distributor (is that an oxymoron or just moronic?):confused3 long as they buyer doesn't pop that bad boy open while he sends text messages on the way home i guess it's a keeper. DH sez i'm no fun lately, haven't had much of a taste for drinkie-poos since the summer. I go in spurts.;) dear God, don't let that be a tag.:rotfl:
jodie - giving a cat a pill is akin to an artform

tracie - BD sounds devine! I did learn how to make great sauce (gravy lol) from out-laws...even can make ravioli if the mood strikes me. My tripe isn't bad either (course no body will eat it but me).

Did the church thing (confirmation) 1/2 the day & again tomorrow right before the Steelers game:headache: ; which is the same time they scheduled the church picnic (not a tv in site:sad2: )...i gave our regrets.

tricia - :rotfl2: very cute costumes! I luved running around MNSSHP as minnie mouse.

Started dragging out halloween decorations:banana:; let me bore you with last year's display :

Janet, great decorations!

I am sad. This year Mike is on evenings for Halloween, and I'm on the dreaded midnights. No candy at our house this year. :( We only have set hours for trick-or-treating in our township, and they are right smack in the middle of my sleeping hours.

Where did you get the Haunted Mansion headstone? I love it!

that really sux, i'd be bummed. DH always manages to swing a trade (people usually thrilled to dump their midnights)

Got my ghoul-friend @ disneyshopping dot com;) last year. This year thinking of a POC section:idea: . the only stuff i ordered (so far, he-he) was:

Capt jack headstone

Okay....so Jodie...I don't think having NO Halloween candy is such a bad thing, is it :confused3 No temptation :thumbsup2 Congrats on being a pro-Kitty nurse....You finally got it...either that, or he gave up :rolleyes1 I would also have to agree w/ you about inactive kids. Parents are so busy they just seem to let their kids "go" and do whatever:confused3 Or they can't afford it or don't want to be bothered :confused3 I know there are a lot of parents who just 'drop their kids off' at activites (heck, we are one of the few parents who stays for all Ryan's activites) and 'can't stay' or 'have better things to do'.... This is the time to keep your young kids active.... I have actually set a goal for myself. One year from now, I plan to be able to run the soccer (field) drills that Ry runs and keep up with him easily ;) I'm working on it....I am there to cheer him on and support him, and he is there for me too.

Janet....if Sheetz is sellin' alcohol in Western/Central PA, you can bet they were trained properly (not saying they ARE doing it properly...just trained). The president of the "office" job was out there to train and certify them in alcohol safety a couple weeks ago. (That is what I do at that job....train people who serve food and alcohol how to do it safely...I don't train, I "push papers" after the class is complete). By the way....love the pics!!! and the ears! :rotfl: I wish I had the time/energy to go "all out" for Halloween like I used to :guilty: Oh well......

Can you all believe our Raven is gone?? :sad2: Hope she enjoys herself and gets some much needed rest.

So, have you ever utilized the 'chat' here?

No, I have never utilized the chat. Is there one?

I think our mac leaves on Monday!

i thought it was next week too? maybe she snuck off early:) , sure deserves it!

barb - when i moonlighted as a bartender, my training consisted of being shown where they kept the handgun(s):rolleyes1

no - i am not kidding, most "independent" small businesses & bar/restaurants have them on-site...along with most of the customers. When LCB would raid, I'd marvel @ the weapons found abandoned. Proud to say I never got caught with underage drinking on my watch:banana: ; so was my pocketbook.

Most of my fellow realtors won't go out at night in certain areas without one either. (I always take my bodyguard - DH).

FYI, I always said up front to mgmt, if they want the money they can have it & all the booze in the joint for all I care.:sad2: not sure where that would fall in the "official" training manual.

I believe you..... however, Penna. now mandates that a minimum of 50% of your staff is Responsible Alcohol Mangement Program trained..... (or for short...RAMP). We teach that and the 'internationally' recognized Training for Intervention ProcedureS (or for short TIPS). More of how to slow intoxibilty down, how to recognize someone drunk, how to handle them, laws, etc..... After I attended the class, i always wondered how it would actually BE working behind the bar. And I would agree, if having a gun shoved up my nose, take anything you want.....

I went into the chat room that you were in, but I may have missed you.

Assume it's the legal eagles/insurance liability or is it now state law? thought it was voluntary.:confused3

Otherwise, unless you've got a dim-bulb for a barkeep, they should know the signs of a drunk or they're in the wrong profession. If anything else, you keep a mental count of what they're drinking and how many/hour, etc. Only problem I ran into is waitresses were usually more worried about tips & didn't monitor big spenders as well as they should.

Easiest way to shut somebody off - very sloooooow service, watered down drinks or 1st calling bouncer, then shutting them off;)

If it is now state law, it makes me glad i didn't buy that liquor license when we had the chance.

Weird note - did you know that if you let an obviously intoxicated drunk walk home they can be picked up on a version of DUI; which bounces back to the bar...absurd. Local bar got in big trouble a few years ago on this one.:sad2:
