Okay, one more church story before I let it drop. Same church, several years earlier. Annouce a big "commitment" campaign to get people involved in the church. They sent out a form asking you to commit to how many hours a week you'd pray, spend time with family, serve the church, and how much money you'd pledge. Well, since we're already involved in the parish, pay regularly (and pay the difference if we miss a Sunday), and are there several days a week with all the things we do, we didn't worry about it.

Well, then we get a letter in the mail (apparently a form letter from what I found out later), saying things like "why aren't you involved in the church, is your faith lacking, is there a problem with your marriage?" :confused3 Just like - wait, we participate at church & send you money, but because we didn't fill out their little form, suddenly there's a problem with our marriage!

Apparently, they lost a lot of folks from the parish over this mailing!

Well...duh! Are they stupid?? If you sent me a letter questioning MY marriage, you'd be 'lucky' if all I did was 'leave' your church

The fund raising stuff just won't end.

I managed to come up with $100 worth of crap between all the family members to order for the "Fund Raiser". Case closed. Or so I thought.

We get an invitation in Joshua's book bag about 2 weeks ago for "Family Reading Night" at the school. Hot dog supper if you want (for $3), reading time in the library, fun stuff for the kids to do in their classrooms. I detached the RSVP part and sent it back.

I get a note in Joshua's book bag today with an "Oh, by the way..." type message saying that the school will be holding an Usbourne Book Fair during the Family Reading Night and here is a "wish list" that your child has of the 3 books that he hopes you can get for him while you are there. :headache:

We'll still go, but this sneaky crap of getting the kid all excited before the parent can say yes or no is getting VERY OLD VERY FAST.

It's a primary school, for criminy sakes. Kindergarten, First and Second Grades... that's it. How many friggin fund raisers do we need at this level???

Thanks for the all the words of encouragement gals - mac I luvs the icons, made me smile. I was raised in the church, always very active in the parochial school, etc. until i became "bad" due to divorce. Annullment process soured me, yet i continued to raise my boys in the faith (sacraments, altar servers, community service, etc.) At best i am a cafeteria catholic;). WWJD if i didn't have the correct sponsor sign the form? so smite me already!
popcorn:: yet i wait for #2 son procrastinator to show his cards:rolleyes1

he's still insisting I chose DIL (between the 2 is bad blood) instead of him:confused3 .
Not so, have been telling him to make this appointment for over a year:headache: . Not sure if it's a guy thing or what, so irresponsible imo; at 21 you really should be able to follow thru. However, it's the old tale of when you don't hear what you want @ house #1 you hoof it to #2.

The Padre insisted i set an appointment on Monday for somebody/anybody for this Friday to sign the paper (gave me less than an hour before he left town-that was big of him-NOT)...couldn't track DS down, talked to oldest DS who nominated his wife:laughing:

When bull-headed kid found out, he threw a fit & is hiding out @ dear old dad's house.

At least DIL is being a very good sport by standing in the batter's box until/if joy-boy of mine decides to get up off his dead *ss and commit - looks & reminds me of his dad:mad:

I've left a message, guess i'll let it simmer for another day or so, just another concession to what ex terms perfectly normal behaviour...bizarre.

No baseball or football in this house! :snooty: Well, Mike does like the Cowboys, but he doesn't watch football when we're home together. One of the many, many reasons I married him!

That's right, ladies ... this beer drinkin, cuss like a sailor, works in a men's league Republican hates football and baseball! How much do y'all hate me now?

We are NBA and Boxing fans though, and are known to turn down invitations if the Suns or Lakers are playing or depending upon who's boxing on HBO.... :rolleyes1

a boxing fan!:cool1: any thoughts on why HBO always has what seem to be welter weights in the ring?

guess you missed the era of Muhammed Ali, Fraizer & Forman...even Sugar Ray? they were boxers!

Hey everyone, still don't have time to reply to anyone. Wanted to let you all know I am here with you in spirit. Helping my dad out with some crap with his impending divorce. Yep, dd (daughter) & dd (dad) are both going through a divorce at the same time. I'm helping him get all of his accounts in order, closed, reopened, etc., all auto pay & auto deposits redirected. What a mess.

I will be back in a few days to catch up on everything. Hang in there everyone.

I've often thought about that! Give me heavy weights anytime! You know, Larry Holmes is a HUGE local hero in these parts and I remember HATING Gerry Cooney during the championship fight ... I mean, who did Gerry think he was getting announced second? Hmmpphhh. I really hope that I'm not sounding like I'm naming dropping here, and I don't really think that most people remember Gerry Cooney, but my dad is actually golfing buddies with him now. I always found that odd since I remember our whole family snuggled into our tiny living room to watch that fight and so fervently rooting against Gerry!

Lori, I am very sorry to hear of the multiple divorce woes. It's never easy but sooo important to settle everything properly and fairly. Sadly, I speak from experience.

Really, I take no offense whatsoever. :goodvibes I couldn't name you a single player on the Cowboys, and as Mike grew up in California, and then Virginia, and then PA, I have absolutely NO idea how he developed that affinity.

Hope things get easier for you guys.

How is everyone else on this fine Wednesday? Eh, another day another mess to clean up here :lmao:

Hope everyone has a great day! I will be here off and on - catch yas later!

Mornin' all! :wave2: (I suppose that should be Ahoy mates!)
Quick fly by before I'm off to work...
Did you know that today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? :rotfl: I just saw it on the MSN homepage. So before you go out today, remember that you are supposed to talk like a pirate. (I'm not too good at it so I'm going to have to practice...) Here is a little of what Wikapedia says about it:

International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD) is a parodic holiday invented in 1995 by John Baur ("Ol' Chumbucket") and Mark Summers ("Cap'n Slappy"), of the United States, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate.[1] For example, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello", but with "Ahoy, me hearty!" The date was selected because it was the birthday of Summers's ex-wife and consequently would be easy for him to remember.[1]

Have a good day! (How would you say that in pirate?)

Let's see...
I don't drink beer.
I watch football and NASCAR on tv.
I used to watch baseball, but haven't really cared in the last few seasons.
I try to watch hockey, but I'm the only one in my house that likes it, so that doesn't happen often.
I don't have a political affiliation. Got tired of watching my parents (Republicans) and my sister (a Democrat) vote for complete idiots just because they had a red name or a blue name, so I refuse to align myself with either party.
I live in rural Georgia, but I was born and raised in Atlanta.
I am divorced, but since the first marriage lasted 8 years, I don't know if it qualifies for the "starter marriage" label. Most people talk about a starter marriage as a first marriage that lasts 3 years or less and results in no children.
I am married to a guy that is almost 10 years older than I am, and we've been married for over 8 years.
I'm 41 years old and I have 2 sons under the age of 6.

I don't fit in anywhere, do I? :confused3

Don't ask me why the sports discussion started that. I guess I just got thinking that I don't fit a stereotypical sports fan of any variety and just kept going... ;)

Hey all!!

Now that I've had rest, I'm good to go! :thumbsup2

Tricia....MORE fundraisers?! :confused3 Get real.....forget it....tell 'em where to stick it :rolleyes1 I had US and one other person buy from Bubba for his fundraiser, maybe Mom will buy something when she gets home Saturday.....stinkin' thing is due Monday already  Good luck honey! And, don't be so "down" on yourself...you FIT IN HERE :grouphug: (...wif all us nutcases :rotfl: ) Keep yer chin up..... You are a good person w/ a great family doing the best you can in this crazy ride we call life ;)

Janet.....hope things are goin' yer way today  Keeps the faiths!

Lori.....same for you  You must be crazy trying to deal w/ 2 divorces :scared1: You are a wonderfully, brave person! Good lucks to you too!

Alison.....er, I mean....Ay Matey! pirate: Okay...so I stink at 'pirate talk'....but thanks for the info ;) Had no idea.....

Okay, thus far we've shared wedding pix, sports (where were the 'guys' for that discussion????), religion.... :scratchin ....what's next? :confused3

Oh....and we didn't forget macraven.....who has only 5 more sleeps till vacay..... you most certainly deserve this vacation and I truly hope you have a wonderful time

On a 'different' note....playing hookie today :ssst: Bubba's Dad decided to take the day off, so I did too :rolleyes1 Gonna get that motion light installed outback (DH says he thought he heard someone out there last nite) and go cash that lottery ticket! :woohoo: For that reason, may be in & out all day like Tracie.... :thumbsup2

Check ya's l8r......

First of all, I noticed that YOU didn't share wedding pics. I wanna see what a hair person does to themselves on their wedding day. popcorn::

We could share pregnancy and newborn pics? The guys would get left out of that one too, but since they didn't cough up any wedding pics, I don't think they'll care. ;)

We could do car pics. Anybody have a pic of your first car? My mom does somewhere...

AND :cool1: MAC :cool1: :yay: :dance3:
I didn't remember it was so close to your trip! Thanks Barb...

Okay, thus far we've shared sports (where were the 'guys' for that discussion????)

I'm here now! I am a Raiders fan, have been since I played mighty mite football in the early 70s, we are 0-2 as well!!! We did get close this week though, we won the game for about 3 seconds :confused3

But we weren't picked to win this year like the eagles were, so it's OK to lose

You can blame me for the sports discussion.
I was just wondering who rooted for whom.
Looks like quite a few of us have 0-2 teams on the gridiron and only a few baseball fans.
