AND don't forget the people that stay offsite, but book a campsite in order to participate in the DDP. I even saw a thread started by a guy that went so far as to book a campsite every third night of his vacation, then went through the hassel of checking in/out 3 times during their stay. You get the DDP for the day of arrival and the day of checkout, so he was cutting it as close as he could. Okay, so what was Mr. El Cheapo renting offsite? A 5 bedroom HOUSE complete with Mickey shaped pool. Yeah, he really needed to save that extra $100...![]()
I'd just like to point out that he was probably paying a lot less for that house than you'd think. We paid almost $60 less a night for our 4 bedroom house with gameroom & private (although non-Mickey shaped) pool than we would have for a single room at POR with a trundle bed. Some of it isn't the cost as much as the quality of life! I considered booking one room at the campground in order to to the TL late night EMH, but there was no way I was going to squeeze 5 of us in one tiny room in order to qualify. I can see both sides of it - if he's paying for the campsite than who can complain? But also the point that a lot of sites sit empty and people who need them can't use them.
We're trying to head off camping this evening. Unfortunately DH's flight on United from Houston was cancelled. Called him at midnight to tell him (via an automated system) that his flights had all been changed from Friday to Saturday - sorry.

So he spent hours on the phone and finally got booked on Delta instead through Atlanta. Well, they got him to Atlanta, but are now attempting to strand him there. So far his flight's been delayed 40 minutes and is now apparently off the monitor. Waiting for updates - boy he doesn't have luck with this stuff!
Meanwhile, we're on our 7th straight day of rain here. I'm hoping it will clear briefly so I can go get the bikes on the camper. We're going to be really running late and since we're camping without electricity, it's going to be rough setting up in the dark! Wish us luck!
