Happy Birthday Todd!!! Are you doing anything special today????

RVGal, your son sounds like a sweetie! Hope my son finds his classes in two weeks at university. Actually, I hope he wakes up on time to get to class!

Keisha, we loved the Paradise Pier. I don't know what people are talking about when they say what a dump it is. The huge couch was in our room. It was a pullout since we had a one bedroom suite (with two bathrooms). I'd go there again in a heartbeat. Disneyland is so much like Universal in that everything is within walking distance and so many of the rides are geared to the older set.

Keisha - actually the airport shirts are matching as well - they're company shirts with my husband's company logo on the sleeves - they had a close out on them for $5 each so he did what he could with sizes/colors. We wore those on the plane and they guys wore them for golf. Thanks everyone else for the nice comments - I'll try to do some more later!

Tricia - enjoy it while you can. My youngest (12) went to his middle school orientation yesterday. The conversation went more like this:

Me: So how was the class?
DS: (Shrugs shoulders)
Me: Did you know anyone?
DS: (Shrugs shoulders)
Me: Who ran the class? The principal, the teachers?
DS: I guess
Me: Did you go on a tour?
DS: I guess
Me: Did you get your schedule?
DS: I don't know

Well, you get the idea. Those are his standard 3 responses to anything I ask him. Lots of fun! For all I know he sat and stared at the ceiling the entire 2 hours he was there!

Tricia that story was so cute!!

Thanks. He makes conversations fun, but exhausting. :faint:

He's still a sweetie and doesn't mind me calling him that... yet. We'll see how long that lasts. :sad2:

Oh, yeah. I know those years are coming. My niece who is now 18 (and starting college:scared:) was always something of a chatterbox until she hit the teen years, then it was like you were grilling a suspect on the stand to get any information out of her. My nephew who is 16 just grunts and shrugs a lot.

homies, it doesn't get any better with sons in getting them to talk....

except now, i do have 2 out of 4 that yak with me..

I do think some of it is the kid though. Same DS, on his first day of first grade (in Michigan kindergarten was half day so this was his first "full" day of school), when I asked him if he'd missed me, replied thoughtfully, "Actually, I forgot all about you!" Way to make mom feel good!

But my DS14 is still my talking buddy. He is the one who helped me plan all the Disney stuff and always willing to talk about anything and keep me company. DS12's eyes would roll back through his head if I asked him to go on a walk with me or something.

DS15 is still pretty good to talk to (and the only one of my kids interested in the "real" world's events), as long as the topic is NOT his girlfriend. Then it becomes as Tricia said like grilling a suspect. Along the lines of "what is YOUR need to know"?

Hi all-
Sorry I haven't been able to read up the few pages I missed lately. I guess later I'll read. Been very busy here :headache:

My kids had their first day of school today. Both into 5th grade already!
I have to get them off the bus in a few minutes. I'm sure there will be TONS of papers I have to read, etc  . I hope no homework tonight  :headache:

Watched America's Got Talent Finale last night. Been watching since it started the series in June. So glad Terry Fator won!! :cool1: :woohoo:
He is extremely talented!

Also had to deal with finding a carpenter/handyman, to fix the gouge I have in hte one wall in my garage. The condo subdivision where I live, our 4 garages are together, sharing a garage wall with one neighbor and another garage wall with another neighbor. I gouged the garage wall by accident about a yr ago. Minivan hit a box or a toddler carseat I had against the 1 car garage wall and made a gouge in the drywall of the garage Not a big gap, but needs to be fixed. Neighbor wants the repair done immediately! So I had gotten an estimate done yest. of a handyman another neighbor I know refered me to. Handyman is going to fix the garage wall on Fri. afternoon
If the garage wall gouge didn't affect the other neighbor, I probalby wouldn't be in a hurry to get this stupid thing done! :headache:  But can't get these single neighbors angry as they are entitled to complain to me(being sarcastic here). As these neighbors in my building LOVE to complain! :sad2:

Ok, I gotta run.

Love the pics, Damo, and your too, Marciemi! :thumbsup2

Happy birthday, Todd! :bday: :cake: party: :dancer: :rockband:

Talk sometime later :)

Okay, some pics from day 2 - Animal Kingdom.

The group pic from Everest. We enjoyed this, but were less impressed the more we rode it. It's a lot of fun, but not a super "wow" ride as far as a real rollercoaster. The scariest part was on our third ride (different day), when there was obviously a problem. We got up to the point where you reverse, and just stopped. And waited. And waited. Meanwhile you could still hear other trains going. Although I was sure Disney had this under control, there was just a little tiny bit of real fear that another car was going to suddenly crash into ours!

Everest.jpg

My youngest son got chosen to open up their time board for the crowd. As a result he got a FP good on any ride any time for our family, which is the one we used later in the trip:

Waiting for the Nemo show - yes it was hot:

Guess that's all the good AK pics from that day!

Well, I just wacted the football match (soccer)!!

Was Northern Ireland against Liechtenstein and we won!! YAYYYYY. Score was 3-1

So just for all my american buddies I will sing a Northern Irish football song for you!!

READDYYYYYY.....

Mine eyes have seen the glory of Espagne 82,
When little Northern Ireland showed the world what we could do,
Now Lawrie is our leader and we're coming after you,
and this is what we sing,

We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
But its all the same to me!

We beat the Turks and Italians and the mighty Germans too,
the French, the Dutch, our southern friends; all know what we can do,
and if you know our history you know it could be you,
and that is why we sing,

We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
But its all the same to me!

OH!! I was only little when my father said to me,
come on we'll go to windsor cheer the boys in emerald green,
they are the greatest little country that the world has ever seen,
and this is what we said,

We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
But its all the same to me!

The englishmen came over in the year 2005,
but little did they know we'd planned a wee surprise,
Sir David scored the winner and Windsor Park went wild,
and this is what we sang,

We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland,
But its all the same to me!

woooooo!!

Rose - You are so lucky to live next door to the picky/complaining neighbors! Some of us have to go looking for them, but not you... you get to share a wall with them.

Marcie - More great pics! AND, I'm interested to hear your opinion of EE. Because of our kids ages, we haven't been on it yet. I've heard so many "it's the best thing ever" type reviews that I was beginning to feel like we were missing out. We'll get to ride it one day... :upsidedow

Gemma - I feel like I should raise a pint or something in honor of your football (soccer) team. Wait, I don't drink beer or anything that smells like beer. Can I just consume the alcoholic beverage of my choice and call it a Northern Irish victory celebration? :confused3 ;)

LOL Tricia!! Yes you can raise a glass of wine/vodka/tequila/sambuca/whiskey etc etc to me! Anything to want! Still so happy we won!!

Um, why can't I book a room for 2012 yet? Doesn't anyone know I have to plan my vacations 5 years in advance?????? Disney lets me!!!

Wha, wha, whattttt?? I have to pay for parking at Universal?! But, Disney does it for freeeeeeee!!!!! The injustice of it all!!! No wonder Disney has more magic than Universal and you Universal people are all just jealous!

I am going to Universal on a Tuesday in March in 2009. Will I need Express? Would it be better if I went on a Wednesday in August? What will the weather be like on those days? And, is it really true? There is no longer a FREE fast pass?

I'm soooo not into thrill rides. Not at all! Should I still go to Islands of Adventure? Why can't I book my character breakfast at Confisco's a year in advance? I need my ADRs!!!!

Ok, now back to your regularly scheduled thread ......

You are sooooooooooo bad! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Gemma - congrats on the victory! Do you play? DS15 is a defender and soccer (futbol) is his life! Also, I've been meaning to ask, I know you were doing a character meal with a CM friend - where did you end up going? How was it? Is that where your new avatar is from?

Tricia - I'd put EE in line with BTMR. When the kids were in the 3-7 range, this was the "be all, end all" rollercoaster. But now that they're older, and have ridden a lot more "real" coasters (they loved Hulk at IOA), the Disney ones just don't seem to have that much going for them. They're not wild enough coasters to compare with the ones at IOA or Cedar Point and don't have the theming/story (like Splash Mountain or ToT) for enough of the Disney "Magic" to counterbalance that for my kids. They're probably awesome to people who don't do a lot of coasters, but as I said, after the first time we found them kind of boring. (Hopefully I can say that without getting flamed since we're on the Uni side of the board!)

Hey. No I don't personally play but I'm a Northern Ireland and Liverpool fan! Soccer is huge over here so it's great to watch some of the matches, wasn't expecting a win today- so to win 3-1 was brill!! The other team scored their 1 goal at the very end of the match! Sneaky!!

We ended up going to Liberty Tree Tavern and it was brilliant!! I couldn't recommend it enough! The characters for us were Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. The food was Thanksgiving dinner and it was the yummiest food I've ever eaten!! Except for mac and cheese- that was random!! I don't like mac 'n' cheese. lol. Yeah thats the new avatar- thought it was better for these boards than the old one of me holding a bottle of booze! lol. If anyone ever gets the chance to eat at LTT then I really recommend you do. The food, service, characters- everything was brilliant!! And I got hit over the head by Dale!! haha!!

Sorry I'm late y'all...busy, busy day today :faint:

However, I come bearing gifts for you for your birthday Todd....hope you like "poker"...brought you two pair ;)

Gemma: congrats on your win! We get that excited over football too...but we're still in pre-season here yet.....

Jodie: :lmao: ....whoops! Didja say that outloud?? :rolleyes1 (However, I see your point.......I have noticed it on the boards too....so much for all the "stickys" we keep gettin' put up....hotels, FAQs, etc.... :sad2: Sometimes you just feel like this --->
18.gif
....door update???

Rose: sorry to hear about the garage hole....bad timing, I know...but at least it'll be fixed then ;)

Tricia & Marcie: You guys are funny with the conversations you have w/ your boys. I got ya ALL beat......
Me: (insert question here)
Ryan: "good"
"good" is the standard answer for everything :rotfl:
I'm sure the day will come and that will change...till then, I just make sure he's safe, happy and ask if there's anything he wants/needs to talk to me about, and I'm good :thumbsup2

Raven....better day at skool today?? :teacher:

Janet...how the heck are ya? :confused3

Alison...good to see you poppin' in now and again :yay:

Where's Tracie??? :confused3

Who'd I miss??? Sorry if I didn't respond, but you guys wrapped up 3+ pages today and I did the best I could to catch up!

OH! FINALLY stopped raining today...but it was chilly at soccer practice tonite. Can't wait for the sun to come back out

to everyone else I missed.......not intentional

Gemma - I wound up having a bowl of vanilla ice cream, but I added chocolate syrup in honor of your team's victory. I hope that counts for something.

Marcie - That's good to know. We always used to ride BTMR before the kids and figured DS5 will be ready to tackle that one next time we're back. I love rollercoasters, but BTMR was always on the fun-but-lame end of things for me.

Jodie - Tell us how you really feel. :lmao: What was up the lady that got her undies in a bunch on the "scardy cat" thread? Or the British vs. American stuff on the "monster makeup" thread? Is everyone hyper-sensitive these days or what? I would blame it on the heat and/or rain, but that isn't a problem everywhere is it?

Probably a bad time to mention that I'm all excited because my DCL planning package arrived in the mail today. We're looking at booking for July, 2009 as a 10th Anniversary present to ourselves. :rolleyes1

Speaking of my anniversary, thanks again for all the wishes. I'll get around to those pictures soon.

It was another ridiculously hot one here today. High was over 100... AGAIN.

It's time to settle the boys in, so I'm off to do the bedtime ritual. I think I'll tuck myself in as soon as they go to sleep. For some reason, I'm beat tonight.

We need to have ours paid off by April 1st (yea, 2008) for our June cruise....early anniversary gift to ourselves too :rolleyes1

(great DIS minds think alike)

Don't even get me started on "How come Universal doesn't offer Magical Express like Disney?" Did I really write that? Or was it sleep typing. Can I just call midnight brain on that and get away with whatever I want to right now?!

Tricia, hubby and I booked our 2nd Disney cruise while aboard the first, and we had to book well in advance as well .... DCL plays into a psychological mindmeld to get you to book early. I think DCL read the DISboards to find out exactly what type of people they were dealing with and what exactly they could get away with! You HAVE to book early!

Anyway, Barb, you still crack me up for asking. We are having trouble getting a hold of our contractor. Just need him to fax an estimate over to UPS and we should be all set. Here's hoping!

I am sorry if I offended anyone. Ok, sorry. I lied. I'm really not sorry. Sorry as in sorry that I lied, but not sorry that I had to vent and if you were offended? Well, I could see "annoyed" at me. Maybe even exasperated. But offended? We all need to vent. It's healthy. If we hold it in, we're subject to paralyzingly high blood pressure. Which can be dangerous and result in necessary medical treatment. Or psychological treatment. Is "paralyzingly" even a real word? How many people have put me on his or her ignore list today?
