Something About Nothing............ #14

I love cornbread too and we are having it tonight with (get ready for it.) bean soup!!! Yes, I know beans are one of your favorites, LOL. I use mostly great northern beans with a mix of 16 different types of beans too. I put bacon and carrots in it and serve with cornbread. I made my own cornbread recipe up from a southern one and a Mn.one, LOL. It's a mix of both and we like it.

Oh no.............Not tiramisu..... I have only tried the one kind and it was with a very thin light cake on the bottom and a custard for the rest and topped with tiramisu. I don't know if they added other ingredients, but it was not mushy. It was served cold and I was in heaven. I sometimes wonder if these desserts are made differently in other countries or parts of the US?

You and Roger. He is busy watching Hallmark Christmas in July shows. I think he's trying to drive me crazy!!!

LOL had to laugh at that purchase. I think things have changed since I last bought those.....

I am certainly going to seek it out the next time we are at an Italian restaurant.

Oh, I agree with No Grits! I tried them a few times with and without butter and sugar, and plain. They just tasted like eating something gritty and tasteless. I am with you on the catfish, but Only if they are not at our favorite place to eat catfish. They know how to cook them and they are delicious. I know I'm not convincing you, LOL.

This salad sounds wonderful. No kale is a good thing.

Sounds like you had a nice visit with Kyle at his new place. I bet he is so proud of his new apartment (condo?).

Thanks for the beautiful pictures - looks like the kind of trip I like to take.

Skookumchuck???? Really? I've never heard of that one.....

I love Princess Catherine and am so glad she is getting out and about. She is such a beautiful, gracious lady.

Congratulations to your GD on her 2nd place finishes. I bet you are so proud and what an accomplishment to get to go to the Jr. Olympics. I wish that the flights and circumstances had worked out for you to attend.

Yes, the properly made catfish is a big one. I shy away from it at places other than the catfish place we visit when in Tn. It is delicious there, as are the fries and slaw. Yum.

Yes, a big No to grits.

Congratulations to your family on the birthdays!

Pumpkin: I just finished cleaning out all my closets!!! I had about 5 or 6 trash bags full of clothes and other things I don't use anymore to give to charity. It feels so good to get rid of that stuff. I tend to hang on to things even though I haven't worn them in years. It's insane, so I am happy when I do get rid of things.

Happy Monday to all. We are back to 70 degree weather with rain, but that is a very welcome relief from the upper 80's and high humidity. We are not used to those temps anymore. It makes me wonder how we survived all those years in Tennessee? I guess your body just gets used to the weather patterns and you adjust. Now, we are used to the cold and snow - a big change from Tn. We went from one extreme to another!

I am picking up Mom at her apartment for dinner of ham/bean soup and cornbread. I do this at least once a week, and I give her lots of leftovers during the week. She still cooks but I think she likes to get different meals too.

I got up at 4:30am and am now getting tired. I'm going to try for a nap now. I hope I made sense in these posts. If not, I confess I am partway asleep, LOL.

happy Monday to all,

ruth
Skookumchuck Narrows is a strait forming the entrance of Sechelt Inlet on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast in Canada. Before broadening into Sechelt Inlet, all of its tidal flow together with that of Salmon Inlet and Narrows Inlet must pass through Sechelt Rapids

Good Tuesday morning and we have rain again, it really is becoming one of those joke summers so far, upside is our lawns, trees, flowers and plants are all blooming like crazy. I think we will need an arborist by the end of this summer to trim a load of trees back. Our gardener is thrilled with the plants and so on, but frustrated he can`t get the lawns done. They look fine to me!

If the rain eases I do think we`ll head out a walk as it is so calm and still and again very humid, no need for even a hoodie, maybe an umbrella though....crazy in July.

But, not much going on this week at all, part two of the parcel I got delivered yesterday isn`t coming till tomorrow pm sometime, so don`t need to be in for anything. I`m having my friend`s little granddaughter one morning too, she`s already broken up for summer, but will have her for a time before her and her dad head off for their 3 week vacation, then see if her mother will find time to see her and visit from France.

Breakfast muffins this morning and no idea for lunch yet, but dinner is partly made, last night I made the meat sauce for lasagne, always amazes me our lasagne`s are so different from what we see in America, ours are more layered and never made with ricotta cheese.....not for me. Tom fancies some garlic bread so will bake some for him later, might have a little piece but I find lasagne filling enough on it`s own with some salad.

Yup, time for another cuppa.....perfect start to the morning.

Have a wonderful day!!

Love the purple coming through here in the flowers

Well, we did manage to get out a walk, humid, hot and wet is weird mix to be walking in, but we did 5 miles, it was a little quieter this morning apart from the usual dog walkers we meet every day. Hoodies were soaked but washed and dried now.

Made rice paper spring rolls for lunch, with some spicy dip and salad, put in shredded chicken and it was bursting with beansprouts, very nice.

Going to do some baking with Tom this afternoon, he wants to do the garlic bread, fine by me, will show him and see how he does, he`s not normally one for baking, but nice to bake together too, one of the nice things about the weather being cooler.

Tomorrow is to be postively tropical....high 70`s :rotfl:

Thanks all, very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the world. Had to share photos of my girlfriend getaway! Always a good time traveling with these ladies.

@schumigirl agree, farmed salmon is a hard no. I love our Pacific salmon, if I ever get over your way will have to try the Scottish variety!

@keishashadow :tilt: I tried saying it fast, can’t lol! Good luck to your daughter!

@drenalin'junkie ouch on sunburn! Did you forget the sunscreen!!! Good job on the snapper!
If you see 2 Canadian women looking jet lagged in the parks Aug 16 it will be us lol! We fly in on 15th, land at midnight :crazy2:

@Charade I love catfish, cornbread, peaches, grits! Probably from all the time I spent down south on holidays growing up! I’ll take your southern card, lol.

@Robo56 .im definitely a butter, salt & pepper grit girl! You just reminded me I haven’t made a quinoa salad yet this summer. I should do that soon. It’s been blistering hot and need cold dishes.

@Pumpkin1172 heating up down here too, in 30’s. I walked uphill to see my friend on her birthday yesterday and almost died, in the heat of mid day ugh. There was a shad tree on the corner and stopped under it for a moment to catch a break!

@disneyseniors ugh, all this talk about closet clean outs! I really need to tackle mine but I’m procrastinating.

Today 7 of us got together for our friends birthday. We went to our fav patio on the river. Beautiful day and a nice gentle breeze coming off the river. Good food and good company!
Came home and walked around the side of the house to check on some plants and heard water running. Looked at hose and saw water leaking out. Thought someone forgot to shut it off. Nope. Had to call plumber who will come by Wednesday.
Tomorrow another lunch, with another group of ladies I worked with in the highschool. Then Wednesday have to be home for plumber, it’s husbands golf day.

Almost 10pm here, and dark. I’ll watch next episode of House of Dragon then try and get some sleep. Will leave the night light on!
I had mistaken hand cream for sunscreen when packing my backpack. Feel free to say hi if you see a 61 yr old with a backpack and Velociraptor bubble wand☺️

Quick taco Tuesday stop in!!!

Busy day today so far in the unit. The day didn't happen is our schedule said it was supposed to  That's alright. I just roll with it, and make the changes as needed.

I have a nail appointment tonight - which I'm quite happy about. They are getting a little long, and starting to be a problem with typing. I hate when I hear others clicking and clacking on their keyboards. I really try not to make too much noise - and keep the nails hitting the keys to a minimum ::yes::

It looks like we may hit nearly 100 F/ 37C here today and the next couple of days. I'm in heaven - but others are posting about wanting snow. I always ask them if they recently hit their head or were dropped as a small child - for thinking like that :rotfl:

I love get togethers like that!!!!! And yes - you live in a beautiful part of the country. I am hoping that maybe one summer we may rent and Air BnB for a week and do a family vacation somewhere in the Okanagan. I believe Kelowna is about a 9 hr drive from here. Some year - some year it will happen.

That does sound like a weird mix - but given this year - it is NOT surprising!!! And 5 miles!!!! Wow!!!! Spring rolls sound delicious!

Yikes!!!! I hope you heal fast.

As someone who has had her fair share of horrible sunburns in her lifetime - I will say that soaking papertowel or a face cloth with vinegar - helps take the heat out of the burn. You smell like a pickle - but at least the heat and sting is out of the burn.

Well, off to shuffle a few more papers.

Have a great day everyone!

Lost power at around 9 tonight. Huge branch almost hit my neighbors’ car, and a trampoline flew against my DH’s truck, and our fans at the curb, guess we will find tomorrow morning. Going to be a quiet and warm night, without the AC working. Hope power goes back on sooner then later. Ugh.

Yikes! Hope the power doesn’t stay off too long. Stay safe.

lol...I can imagine your nails clicking like that. Hope you`re happy with them.

Yep, nothing weather wise surprises us anymore, heating on last week now it`s hot....finally!!!

And I feel your pain, we have typical West of Scotland skin, we tend to go nice shades of pink or lobster red!

Tom`s bread turned out nice yesterday, we ended up with little Elise for the afternoon and evening too which was a joy, she "helped" Tom bake which they both enjoyed and it was so much fun. Glad she enjoys lasagne as she was still there for dinner till dad picked her up, then he ate some lasagne too, poor guy was starving, he`s a hard working police officer. Won`t see her now till late August, will miss seeing her now and again.

Gorgeous morning, so up early and out walking, earlier than usual, thought we might need a light hoodie, but nope, tee shirt was fine, finally it feels hot!

Bit nicer than the last picture I took of the ocean. We live in such a beautiful area.

Not going out for our Wednesday lunch group today, everyone is busy, one is still housebound, but seems she went down to the stables this morning despite being told not to, she`s like me though, never does as she`s told :rolleyes1 once she is fully better, we`ll have the spa day I promised her.

BBQ is up and running today, have chicken skewers for lunch, pineapple chunks on a separate skewer and salad. Dinner will be soy/honey/spicy marinaded chicken thighs and a steak skewer too, usual sides will be made up.

So, a very quiet afternoon for me, Tom decided to volunteer as we weren`t going out to lunch, I think I`ll organise some wardrobe space and sort out drawers in our bedroom, always like to have a clear out every so often.

Another middle of the week has crept up on us again......

Good thing we have very good flashlights. Still no power on, but at least water doesn’t need power to work. Had to back up and go another way, twice, as roads blocked, probably from a downed tree. But one more day of this commuting, and hope way before I get back home, the power is on. At least this time of year, it’s light out so early.

And today, the most muggy, and hot before the cold front arriving in the early evening will give us another round of those lightning filled thunderstorms. Then heat wave is done, as mid to high 80’s the rest of the week.

But today?

IMG_3593.jpeg

Why hello camel. Yeah, at least your tree is still having all its branches. Unlike my neighbor, who now has to clean up that huge, and I mean huge, branch, that barely missed most of the next neighbor’s parked car. And replace the newer fence, around his backyard, that branch took out. Guess DH will remove the trampoline from resting on his truck, and hopefully finding our two trash cans that were airborne last night.

So happy Hump Day Wednesday today, where we get over this hump of a feeling day, and Friday, gloriously Friday feeling then is only a day away.

Ooh feels like 105 to 110 this afternoon. Bring on that Summer, and those HHH days. Excessive heat warning given until 8pm tonight. Summer heat. Yay! Yep.

Oh rats. ETA for power to be back? Tomorrow morning. May need to restock my refrigerator. Ick.
Sorry to hear that. This reminds me of the derecho we had several years ago. Hope the trampoline didn’t do any damage to the truck.

We are supposed to get thunderstorms for the next few days. I don’t care for the storms, but we really need the rain.

Currently on hold with Anthem. (What else is new?) Hope I can get this issue resolved before lunch.

Quick early morning stop in :surfweb: Another hot day in the works for us today. Today it seemed like there is bit of humidity when I walking from the parkade to the pedway. I'll find out when I do my morning walk on my break.

Love the nails. I'm a bit boring - no fancy details or bright colors. I'm a neutral color gal - with one nail with some sparkle. I think I'll be changing nail salons. My manager gets beatuiful french tips done for a good price. My current place I go to - charges too much for painting on the french tip. I LOVE the french tip look. And it's not too noticeable when it's grown out vs colored tips.

Picked up Popeye's chicken on my way home - as my nail tech was running behind. UGH....I paid allllllllllllll night for that. I kept burping it up all night last night. My tummy is still somewhat nauseous just thinking about it. And it was freaking EXPENSIVE!!!! That will be the LAST TIME I do that! I'll stop next time at Safeway and pick up a rotisserie chicken and potato wedges and a bag of salad.

Otherwise - quiet night. I had planned to go for a walk last night - but my tummy was too upset to go walking in the heat.

Tom`s bread turned out nice yesterday, we ended up with little Elise for the afternoon and evening too which was a joy, she "helped" Tom bake which they both enjoyed and it was so much fun.
It's great that you were able to spend time with her! It nice to do something out of ordinary and do something a little different. Makes the day fly by when we don't do our regular routines.
Bit nicer than the last picture I took of the ocean. We live in such a beautiful area.

I hope that is not the case, and that your power is restored sooner. I hope the clean up goes quickly too. I hope that the trampoline didn't damage the truck too much.

We are supposed to get thunderstorms for the next few days. I don’t care for the storms, but we really need the rain.
I'm with you. I don't like storms either. I hope you are not on hold for hours.

Well, I should go shuffle some papers around - and at least look like I am keeping busy.

Have a great day everyone!

I`m the opposite, I love storms, preferably if we`re inside watching it nice and safe!! And honestly, we`ve had so much rain I feel guilty keeping it all....happy to share!!!

I have never had my nails done in my life! Everyone`s always look so pretty, but I just never do it, yes sounds like you need to change places and try the other one.

Yes, it was lovely having her, she has grown up with us so is always happy to spend time with us and I`m teaching her, when I get the chance to cook and bake....her grandma by her own admission, can`t boil water, she can bake though and dad has no interest in cooking either, but, happy to do it.

I love where we live!!! For now......

Yep, my friends, you`re right......it seems I do say Yep a lot....sorry mum :rotfl:

Afternoon passed quickly, one of my friends dropped in for a cuppa, she hates nice weather as she works all day lol....so true!!! She is an Estate Agent, would be called a realtor in America I guess, always trying to convince us to sell up, maybe not yet.

Tom`s been delayed giving a fellow volunteer a lift home, his wife needed their car, so everything is ready for him to pop on the barbie when he gets in, everything is marinading nicely, should be enough chicken left over for some lunch with either a salad or wrap tomorrow. Another hour or so till we eat, I`ll be starving by then!!!

I was productive today despite the day starting out in 90s.
IMG_2399.jpeg
Front came thru, should drop to low 80s for a much needed break

We eat more cornbread than toast
It's a holiday sort of treat I make here as it has so many calories and sodium. I do enjoy my own as I like it a tad sweet, likely makes that caloric count even higher lol
always amazes me our lasagne`s are so different from what we see in America, ours are more layered and never made with ricotta cheese.
My ex Italian grand mother in law would roll over in her grave if no ricotta in lasagne. At a big, family wedding once the catering company made the mistake of trying to pass odd small curd cottage cheese as a substitute. lol didn't go well for them.

Most of that era would pride themselves on having lots of layers in their versions. I have learned not to order it when dining out at most places as it tends to be a gloppy mess
As someone who has had her fair share of horrible sunburns in her lifetime

Pepcid AC takes the red out of sunburn
May need to restock my refrigerator. Ick.
I'd take pics of any loss & call ur ins agent. Have been reimbursed in past as to chest freezer full of meat
I have never had my nails done in my life! Everyone`s always look so pretty, but I just never do it
Same. It was all about not being able to justify the cost early on...then, realized I can paint a basic nail to my satisfaction

I keep saying I want to try a pedicure but, feet so ticklish lol
her grandma by her own admission, can`t boil water, she can bake though and dad has no interest in cooking either, but, happy to do it.
Haha good for the G. part of a happy life is knowing when to stay in your lane.

Nice she was able to explore baking with others. So, is Tom going to pursue it now?
Yes, talking about me talking to myself here.
As long as you win the argument lol
