Something About Nothing............ #14

One of the best!

Mr Eccleston was excellent in his lone season, got a bit too big for his britches & went off to become a star…how’s that working out for him? Lol

ironic, but I think this actor-David Bradley (many who don’t enjoy The Doctor should recognize him from the HP franchise) did an excellent job portraying the 1st doctor-William Hartnell Such a solid character performer!

View attachment 745741

No offense to Carole, I really hope his accent isn’t as thick as Peter Capaldi. We spent a good portion of his years, rewinding our tv feed to catch the dialogue at times. Great job otherwise tho. Nice to see somebody of a certain age in the role.

Thinking of The Doctor, i just cannot resist…

View attachment 745743 nope, you’re sick, stay inside & rest ;)

lol.....yes, Peter Capaldi is sometimes hard for me to understand!! Yes the weeping angels were an excellent story and very creepy!

If you want to watch a really bad Dr Who, look up Sylvester McCoy as Dr Who......not good. Colin Baker was equally dreadful and yes Christopher Ecclestone.......who......lol.....

I love David Bradley, he is a fantastic actor with many talents, he is very funny when he`s playing a humorous role, I haven`t seen him play William Hartnell though.

More tea I think......fresh pot every time.

look up Sylvester McCoy as Dr Who
Can’t say I am familiar with Mr Baker. Oh, yes, had forgotten about Mr McCoy. he seemed to be enthusiastic enough, think his personality & choice of companion (forget the actress, just remember she was awful in the role) sunk that ship.

Enjoy it from inside, don`t be going out building a snowman.....☃️.
We won’t get any accumulation. It’s been snowing off and on all morning.

It took me a while to realize he was Filch in Harry Potter. He was also a different character in a Doctor Who episode called Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. I just looked him up on IMDB and found out he was in Captain America the First Avenger. I’ll have to look for him the next time I watch.

I don’t think Sylvester McCoy was that bad. I think he, along with Colin Baker were the victims of poor writing. Colin Baker’s Doctor seemed like such a jerk at times. He also had the worst costume.
Can’t say I am familiar with Mr Baker.

Ace, I think the actress is Sophie Aldred. The companion I really hated was Peri. She was with Colin Baker.

Robo, so nice of you to help neighbor. And beautiful weather you have been having. Hope all your family doing well now. And enjoying some coffee in your HHN cup.
Thanks Lynne. Enjoying my coffee this morning.

Hope your friend is ok after the reaction to the bite I`m sure she was so happy to have you help her with picking up her daughter.
She is doing better, but she has a horrible large blister on to the side of her big toe. Usually you get a small white pustule after the bite and it shows up the next day. This is going to take awhile to heal up. I was glad to be there for her.

Glad everyone is doing well in the family, long may it continue!!
Amen to that.

That soup is lovely, I always make it with chicken stock for added flavour and whatever herbs and spices you feel like. It`s also nice with an added pinch or two of curry powder and grated/blended apple too and always red peppers as it adds to the beautiful colour of the soup. One of the few soups I do enjoy.
The soup sounds delicious. I need get better about making soups. I would have to make it in small portions as hubby will eat a little soup, but not much.

I haven`t been following my usual twitter/blog sites for what`s going on with SpaceX these last couple of weeks, thank you though, if I`m around I`ll try and catch it online.

Have a great day Robbie.
They were supposed to set off a new Rocket called Terran 1 from a company called Relativity Space. It was supposed to go off Friday then was called off until yesterday. Then was called off yesterday because of high upper winds

There is supposed to be a SpaceX Falcon 9 going off the 14th at 8:30 pm then another on the 17th at 8:35 pm if the schedule remains the same.

I was given a good old fashioned record player as a gift a couple of years back, who doesn`t love vinyl.......so today I ordered a picture disc album of Queen`s A Night at the Opera....it`s coming from the USA so goodness knows when it`ll get here, it said 3 weeks, but who knows.
Grandson thought the big vinyl albums were interesting considering they can download music to their phones.

Hope she is doing better today.
She has a nasty blister.

We have a mini winter wonderland this morning. It started snowing last night but it`s not laying yet, it looks more like hailstones covering the lawns and everything in our view, very pretty but freezing out there!!
I remember many years ago when we were on vacation in Britain that the tour director said you could see all four seasons in a day at times. Not sure if that is still the case.

However, we are going out in all the wind and snow to my daughters for a birthday party for my husband, Roger! I tried to get her to postpone it, but she said " we are hardy Minnesotans and snow shouldn't bother us". Yeah, right! Try a blizzard. We have to pick up my Mom who is 10 miles away, and my daughter lives in a rural area about 10 miles from that. Lovely! I'm not looking forward to that at all. I guess I am still a Southerner at heart:)
Happy belated birthday to your hubby.

We have 2 winners: bronchitis and strep throat. They also did a Covid test, but send those out. What a way to start spring break.
Sorry to hear you are sick Charade. Hope you feel better soon.

robbie - when my youngest DS was bit by fire ant as a child, we were shocked how bad & painful his leg looked. Dr’s in the ER back at home said, those who didn’t grow up around them never had a chance to develop a tolerance to them. Also told flying home with it was bad idea. Ooops. Hard to believe such a tiny insect can cause such misery.
Fire Ants are terrible. If you see a sand mound any where here suspect they are there. Sometimes they can burrow in the grass. The problems is that one can latch on quickly and bite in many locations around a circle.

You can feel the bite immediately and it is painful. The intensity of the bite gets worse. I have been bit a few times most recently 3 weeks ago. The burning and itching is pretty intense.

I agree it is fascinating that something so small can hurt so bad.

Sorry to hear your son had such a bad experience.

My Step moms older brother died from Fire Ant bites. He was restoring an old vehicle and went to one of those car junk yards were you pay to harvest parts. He rolled under the vehicle on his mechanic roller and was swarmed by Fire Ants. The paramedics did get to him and treat him on the site. They got him to the hospital and he did not survive. He was living in Texas at the time.

The son is shining this morning and the high is supposed to be 85. I’am sending some Florida heat and sunshine to all who need it.

I have my coffee mug full and enjoying it this morning. I like these Starbucks Florida cups.

Not much on the agenda today.

I made sure to look up when the time change was. So when I got up this morning I did make sure to change all the clocks.

I went to the Farmers market yesterday and bought a few more blouses from the lady who does the silk screen prints. I liked the other two I bought form her and I wanted to buy a few more.

There is another lady there who makes beautiful Larimar jewelry and I stopped and had a look at her jewelry.

I bought some fresh danishes for brunch. They have a large bakery at the Farmers Market and they have a wonderful selection of baked goods.

Going to do a little more reading on the book I started. Might go down to the pool for a little while. Then lazy rest of the day.

Hubby wants to go out for dinner tonight. I will let him decide where he wants to go.

Shout out to Tink and all the Sans family who are not posting.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone doing whatever makes you happy.

Those two along with Mr Ecclestone should never have been Dr`s. Common opinion at the time was that they just weren`t strong enough to lead a show.

I always knew they were bad when Tom switched off as he is a huge Dr Who fan, not any more though.

I very rarely make batches of soups as I don`t eat it very often, but maybe double portions and that`s about it. When I do make them, everyone loves them though, i`ll take that as a compliment.

Yes, being old we don`t play music from our phones when we have friends over, we all love playing vinyl together, I think a couple of us now have classic record players in our homes, they really are a lot of fun.

Yes, you absolutely can see four seasons in one day over here. Where we lived in Scotland folks used to say if you can`t see the island it`s raining, if you can see it, it`s going to rain. And it was usually true, we have seen snow, rain, sunshine and thunder all in one day many times.

Hope you end up somewhere nice for dinner tonight and continued good wishes for you and your family.

No, he`s not quite the type is he!

Hopefully once you get the meds in you, you`ll feel much better, hope you managed to get some sleep last night.

Tom Baker/Jon Pertwee for me, it was a show you never missed as a child when they were the Doctors, after they left I think I had outgrown it.

But, David Tennant, although I still never watched it, Tom did though, seemed to encapsulate everything the Doctor should be. I still haven`t watched him in the Litvinenko drama yet, he is supposed to be excellent in it. Wait, I did watch the Blink, Weeping Angels episodes and enjoyed that.

Have they announced who the next Doc is going to be, I haven`t kept up, I hope it`s back to being a man as Dr Who should be.

lol......

Looks a mixed day here today so far, we had brilliant sunshine when I got up, but now it`s just grey cloud and threats of rain......but it`s better than snow! I`m not going out anywhere today so I`m not bothered what the weather is.

Had a wonderful sleep last night, although to be fair I always sleep well, and instead of getting up when I woke up, turned over and went straight back to sleep, that`s always lovely to do.

We are doing Eggs Benedict this morning with some bacon and fruit, lunch will be light and I`m doing some huge short ribs for dinner tonight. I popped them in the slow cooker this morning after they marinaded overnight in ale, stock and herbs, they`ll simmer away all day and should fall to bits and be so tender when they`re done, will serve mashed potatoes, carrots and cauliflower with them, mash as there will be a gorgeous gravy!!

But, a quiet day again for us which is always nice of course anyone can drop in at any time in this house, and that`s nice too, my friends and I all have an open house policy with each other, always welcome.

Have a wonderful Sunday ::yes::
Ohhh, the short ribs fixed that way are right down my alley. I might have to go to the store and buy some. Also mashed potatoes and veggies are my favorite too. I'll be right over, just have to fly to Minneapolis and fly right over there. No problem, so don't wait on me, LOL.

BYW I love your cute photos at the end of the post. I don't know where you find them, but they make me laugh.

I am going to try and post some pictures I took this am of Roger blowing snow. It is over 12 inches and the drifts are 2 to 3 feet or more. I'll see if I can master that later. Having lunch right now. I"m fixing beef stew for supper which is quick and easy!

My Step moms older brother died from Fire Ant bites.
That is horrific, poor man

Settled upon wings, pasta with meatballs & pepperoni & a charcuterie tray
For dinner tonight. Made dip for veggies & crackers/pretzels later while I lap up the Oscar fashions. Could care less re the awards

Nice surprise to see dresses on sale at target 30%. Grabbed one when I picked up another pair of their stretchy, slim travel pants for the mr. Earlier today. Pretty much done with updating wardrobe. Next up, bag up the older stuff to donate

Middle DS is on medical orders to lose weight. Surprised that starting end of November, he’s lost over 40#. Tough time do it over three holidays and vacation lol Mostly low carb and fat stuff with lots of fresh fruit & veggies

😁

I love a good meme!!

You`d have loved dinner.....oh my, creamy mash with a thick tasty gravy and melt in the mouth beef, I did fill the plate with a load of cauliflower and carrots too.....we are full!! There`s even enough left for Tom to have some for dinner tomorrow night, I`ll have something else, it is a very rich dish. Your beef casserole will be delicious I`m sure.

Oh I`d love to see your snow pictures. Bet Roger was glad to get back inside!!!

Congratulations to your eldest boy!!! That is quite an achievement to do that, and yes over holidays too, wow!! I`ll bet everyone sees a huge difference in him. Low carb is definitely the way to do it for most folks.....and one of the hardest!!

Nice buy on the dress!! You do get some lovely stuff in what are basically grocery stores. We have Tesco/Sainsbury/Asda among some of our food stores and all sell clothes, and some are lovely at fabulous prices too. I know some folks turn their noses up at them, but I`ve had some really nice clothes from them. And yes, it`s nice to have a clear out of old stuff too.

I`m in bed by the time the Oscars come on....I get bored by the actual ceremony to be honest, especially when it`s all arty films no one has heard of being awarded. Nah, give me the pre show chatter and ladies wearing lovely outfits!!! I might be fickle but it`s fun.

Like the sound of your food for the day too......you know me, love a charcuterie board!!! Hope you have a great evening and enjoy the show!

As previously said to Ruth, we are full after such a lovely winter warming dish for dinner. I was good with the mash, made with butter and cream of course...I only had a little, more cauliflower on my plate than Tom`s!

Listening to forgotten hits of the 80`s on the music channel, my goodness I remember them all!! Might pop an episode of Taggart on later if we feel like it. But, it`s been such a lovely day doing not very much at all and a quiet evening ahead.

Going to make some tea now and have a tiny slice of a cherry cake I baked.

Wow.....no one here last night after I posted.......I guess everyone was watching the Oscars or the outfits!!

Not even Ruth with her snow pictures.......I forgot to answer you Ruth on the memes, some of my friends send me most of them, one is a meme/Gif Queen...she loves to answer your txt/email with a meme.....it`s funny at times as she gets away with saying some things with a meme instead of being blunt.....lol.....three of us went online and got her last birthday card completely made out of memes on the front and back, she did see the funny side of it even though some of the memes were a little near the knuckle. She is the one that is thinking of joining the Dis as she loves to read it at times.....I do think she`d be a good addition to the San too, but she claims she`s "busy" lol....doesn`t take long to make a post!!!! Come on Sue and Felicity.......sign up!!!

I glanced at a few this morning and didn`t know many folks there. Jamie Lee Curtis is fabulous as always and glad to see Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar. I did see one woman who looked fabulous, but she had a kind of huge veil/headpiece that was huge, I`d have hated to be sitting behind her!

Heck of a windy night here, it was howling outside when I went to bed, and still the same this morning so it`ll be a fight against the wind this morning when we go out. Not doing the reading at school this week, so my morning is free, I think Tom is helping out at a charity this afternoon.

Need to get some groceries and some gifts to send up to Scotland for a couple of folks, mum is getting parcels sent directly to her so that`s sorted, but won`t take long as I know what I`m getting and then it`s just the posts office and back home again.

I`m so ready for spring, but think we have more snow coming.

Made an onion bread last night, so will have open sandwiches for lunch today, will pop into the deli and get some turkey or beef, whichever looks the nicest and Tom is having the rest of the beef in gravy for dinner, not sure what I`ll cook, maybe just a chicken breast and the usual assortment of veg.

Is Pumpkin back home now.......:wave2:

Almost half way through the month already........::yes::

Happy Monday :-)

Good morning Monday. So dark out with the time change. Sunrise now 7:15 am instead of in the 6 o’clock hour on Saturday.

And the storm is coming. Saying rainy conditions around sunrise, then lots of rain, from mid afternoon until early evening. But thankful, as now saying we will be too warm for snow, and the low weather system carrying that cold air, will give lots of snow to the New England area. I think Patti is in her other home, so most likely she won’t see the lots of feet of snow to fall where she is from.

Then very windy days follow the storm as it departs late tonight. Yep, hold on to those tacos tomorrow, and camel better hold on to any hat he is wearing. But today, send a boat, not an ark, as not even an inch of rain by the time the rainy clouds head North and some out to sea.

Ah that back to those routine week days in full force this week. But that’s okay, it will be a green Friday. ☘️

And so, tea for me, and a pastry bought yesterday at the store I rarely go to, but it has a nice bakery and deli. Ah, Monday. Thankful for that teleworking schedule I have now.

So a most Marvelous Monday to all.

I have no idea why I was sitting up watching the award show of the Oscar’s
Haven’t been to the theater in years.

Only person I recognized was Janet Lee as she won an award last tonight.
Who could ever forget that old movie Scream!

not all knowing which other performers were winners or the movies that were nominated

Many years ago back in the dark ages, I always watched who won the awards.

Now I get the info by who posts the winners and movies.
And eventually the movies do show up on regular tv channels years later

I made a grocery list for Mr Mac so he can do a grocery run this morning.
Sometimes he follows my list but adds on to it. It’s like Christmas time to a kid as you never know what you really will get from santa
lol

I hope he does not buy any liver…lol

Lynne, it’s that rainy in your area?
Might be a good day once your weather eases up.

Yeah, I’ve never been an awards watching person. When much younger, like to see the fashions, but like you Mac, reading and seeing what interests me from the show last night this morning, and didn’t watch any of it last night. Yeah, and any movie that sounds interesting, will watch for free when it does so. The movie that won, I have no desire to see. Hehe, kids want to see the new Mario movie. I’ll go too. I like kid movies. They tend not drag more than an hour and a half, rather than just above kid and higher rated, those movies can be two or even three and more hours. Something to be said, to tell a story in a shorter time.

Bright enough, not raining now. But know the afternoon will be rainy. Hoping my lunchtime walk is still dry. The rain that we did get not that long ago, was a drizzle and very light rain. Street noise does not sound like roads are wet.

More tea? Why yes.

Oh, and good morning Mac. Nice to have Mr. Mac do the grocery shopping. Hope you are feeling good today.

A solid sleep always makes me feel better in the morning.
Mr Mac back home from grocery shopping now.

He hits WM for basic things and then hits Publix for meats/etc that will cover us for the week

Looks like we will have pork for a few meals
And quite a few Publix desserts next few days

Wait…I take that back…he has now started to nibble on one of the desserts.. he has no will power when it comes to sweets

Good morning everyone. Nothing new to report here. My cough is getting a little better, but I am not sleeping well. I sleep for about 30 minutes to an hour and then wake up. Stay awake for a while then doze off again and the cycle repeats.

I’m another one who didn’t watch the Oscars. I haven’t watched in ages. I doubt I have seen any of the movies that were nominated.

Some idiot from my university online Facebook group just offered to write my final paper for my next class. I told him that I was not going to get my degree by cheating. He said it wasn’t cheating. Think of it as assistance. Yeah, I’m sure the university would agree with that.

I’m getting a little stir crazy cooped up in the house. I’m tired of watching TV. Maybe i will get out the puzzle I started months ago.

Jamie Lee is a wonderful actress and a good advocate for women, I`ve heard she is amazing in that movie, I can`t wait to see it, I do like Michelle Yeoh and James Hong. I agree though, I didn`t know a lot of the actors nowadays....I sound like I`m a 185!!!

Tom is brilliant at grocery shopping when he does go on his own which isn`t often as we are normally joined at the hip.....and thankfully he`ll never come home with liver!!!

Love pork, it`s like chicken, very versatile and covers many dishes. And yes, Publix desserts are something to enjoy for sure.

Glad your cough is getting better, but I`m sorry your sleep is being disrupted, it`s not nice.

I hadn`t heard of most of the movies nominated either.....we go to the cinema to see big named movies usually, last one was Top Gun, but the arty ones usually skip over my head and if it has subtitles, I`m not interested.

Yes, that`s cheating in my book too.

Hope you improve soon.

It is blowing a hoolie here today again!!! Down to mid 20`s but will be back up to 40mph later, it`s not in the least bit cold though which is nice and the sun is shining brightly.

Got all my birthday and Mother`s Day cards for the rest of the month and picked up one of the biggest cauliflowers I`ve ever seen! Grocery stores never have anything like that, so that`s our main veg next few nights.

Pork fillet tonight, simply roasted in honey, mustard, soy and garlic, gorgeous!!!

Did my errands earlier so would not be driving when our rain rolls in this afternoon.

Always fender benders when our roads are slick.

Now that my chores are done, I can play on the dis.

A bit cool here in my area as rain is due, but temps will
be warm in a few days.
I am waiting for that so I can start back to walking outside.

I really need the exercise.

I think you must have sent some of that rain over here, we had the most awful downpour this afternoon.

Yes, walking is a tonic. I miss that right now, but you only have a couple of days till it’s warm again and you’ll be back out and about.

Yep, had a complete deluge this afternoon for a couple of hours, it’s down to just chucking it down now. It got very dark mid afternoon, lamps were on from around 2.30. Cosy though watching it with a cuppa and a slice of cake while we watched a movie.

Dinner was lovely, pork was tender and juicy and just spicy enough.

Some music right now, tv later and the rain is still pounding down.

I have come to the conclusion that my university needs to have a required class for online students on how to search the school website. Someone in my Facebook group just asked what the grading scale was for graduate students. It took me about 10 seconds to find the information on the website, screenshot it, and post it to the FB group. A lot of times people ask questions that are answered in the syllabus.
I guess I am just feeling a bit grumpy today.

I am trying to decided if I want to take tomorrow off work. The PA said I wouldn't be considered contagious 24 hours after starting antibiotics, but I am still feeling run down. I would love to get more than an hour or two of sleep at a time.

I'm back!!!!! And finally able to find some time to post! It's been a busy couple of weeks!

Vegas was great - extremely expensive (with our cr@ppy exchange rate) but really good. Weather could have been better - it was cooler and windier than normal. So that put a bit of a damper on our little get-away. We both decided that we definitely like warmer temps and to see green for a winter get away. I still didn't feel like it was much of a respite from our winter. We walked LOTS - my watch had us that we walked 80Km's or 50 miles in 4 days :scared1::faint: We did 30 Km's in 24 hrs lol. Our feet and legs were TIRED!!! That was way more walking than Florida. We even used the tram to get around and still walked that much. It was sooooooo busy on the weekend. It was shoulder to shoulder walking on the strip. We found the week days much more tolerable. But did enjoy it...probably wouldn't return unless there is something specific we want to see there again.

The nascar race was great! It was definitely louder than Daytona....but we definitely liked Daytona better for their pre-race things to see and do. I don't know if we would do another race in Vegas...but we did enjoy it. We ended up finding a shuttle to take which gave us front row parking right by the entrance - which was great instead of taking a taxi or Uber and having to wait hours to be picked up and fight the traffic out of there.

I have been busy with work - at both places. I cam back to a mess at my full-time job as who was supposed to be doing the important time sensitive tasks had not been completed :furious: needless to say it took me a couple days to get all caught up :rolleyes2 and then I worked at my healthcare job on the weekend - while dh went to the city to vist dd and gd and wire in some new lights in her kitchen before the insurance work is started on their kitchen. So while there was holes in the ceiling they put up some new lights.

It is still cold, snowy and yucky here....no sight of spring happening anytime soon. It's still around -10 F or - 25 C at night without getting much warmer during the day. But with the time change...it's great to have so much light in the evenings again!

Well, I should go shuffle some papers....I wanted to make a stop in quick...I've been reading a bit here and there. I will still need to go back and catch up on a few things.

Have a great day everyone!
