Something About Nothing............ #14

I'm back!!!!! And finally able to find some time to post! It's been a busy couple of weeks!

Vegas was great - extremely expensive (with our cr@ppy exchange rate) but really good. Weather could have been better - it was cooler and windier than normal. So that put a bit of a damper on our little get-away. We both decided that we definitely like warmer temps and to see green for a winter get away. I still didn't feel like it was much of a respite from our winter. We walked LOTS - my watch had us that we walked 80Km's or 50 miles in 4 days :scared1::faint: We did 30 Km's in 24 hrs lol. Our feet and legs were TIRED!!! That was way more walking than Florida. We even used the tram to get around and still walked that much. It was sooooooo busy on the weekend. It was shoulder to shoulder walking on the strip. We found the week days much more tolerable. But did enjoy it...probably wouldn't return unless there is something specific we want to see there again.

The nascar race was great! It was definitely louder than Daytona....but we definitely liked Daytona better for their pre-race things to see and do. I don't know if we would do another race in Vegas...but we did enjoy it. We ended up finding a shuttle to take which gave us front row parking right by the entrance - which was great instead of taking a taxi or Uber and having to wait hours to be picked up and fight the traffic out of there.

I have been busy with work - at both places. I cam back to a mess at my full-time job as who was supposed to be doing the important time sensitive tasks had not been completed :furious: needless to say it took me a couple days to get all caught up :rolleyes2 and then I worked at my healthcare job on the weekend - while dh went to the city to vist dd and gd and wire in some new lights in her kitchen before the insurance work is started on their kitchen. So while there was holes in the ceiling they put up some new lights.

It is still cold, snowy and yucky here....no sight of spring happening anytime soon. It's still around -10 F or - 25 C at night without getting much warmer during the day. But with the time change...it's great to have so much light in the evenings again!

Well, I should go shuffle some papers....I wanted to make a stop in quick...I've been reading a bit here and there. I will still need to go back and catch up on a few things.

Have a great day everyone!

Glad you had such a wonderful trip Pumpkin……sounds fabulous and glad the race was so much fun.

That is a lot of walking!! Crikey your poor tootsies…..

Good to see you back and hope you get the work stuff in order…….

Vegas was great -
Glad you had a good time. There is so much to see and do there.
probably wouldn't return unless there is something specific we want to see there again.
Dh loves Vegas and goes to a convention there every year. For me it was a one and done trip. I enjoyed it, but there are other places I’d rather visit.
The nascar race was great!
Would you believe I missed almost all of the race? And my driver won.

I am going to try to get some sleep. Wish me luck please.

Good Tuesday morning.......

😁

And what a bright and sunny morning we have today but again, it`s a cold one and we are in the minuses next few days. Hard frost warning for tomorrow morning so we`ll be wrapping up warm for a little bit yet I think. Might as well get use out of this year winter boots and coats!!

We have the boiler service man coming today, as is usual they don`t give you a time, but will call with a 2 hour window, so that`s ok, we can head out either before or after his time. But, one of these things you have to get done every year....Gas is not something to miss getting checked. Our boiler is a condensing boiler so we have never ending hot water with it, wouldn`t have any other kind. We do have a Carbon Monoxide detector too of course as well as the usual smoke alarms, our local fire stations do offer to come and check and or replace these for folks too which is a wonderful service.

So, our plan today is not very much until we know when this guy is coming. Not that we have much to do except visit the post office to post some cards and gifts away.

Chicken curry for dinner tonight, hot, fruity and look forward to it. Madras style tonight for a change, made the sauce last night so will cook it properly later this afternoon. Might make some coconut rice, one of the few times I eat rice or might make some naan bread.

So, yes Pi day.....not that I`m a math fan at all......but love the memes for it!!

Have a lovely Tuesday 🥧

Ah Taco Tuesday today, yay, it’s the day Max can enjoy a Taco Bell meal. Hope your rain stopped and can get out today.

Yeah, I find when bad weather, accidents happen a little more frequently. I have to say though, we seem to see much more accidents when we travel, then at home, in bad weather. And we have thankfully drove without issue in some extremely rainy, and very snowy, weather conditions. There’s two that were a scary drive. But ya gotta go when ya gotta go, when we need to be out driving in bad weather.

And so, that light rain we got, was a quarter of an inch. In other words, just a rain annoyance every so often, and damp day it was yesterday.

And that wind pushing the storm, now giving our NE and Eastern Canada, getting lots of snow and wintery mix weather, is now giving us a very windy day, today. It’s 15 mph wind right now. Saying wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be felt today. Bad hair day alert it should be rather than the wind advisory issued for our area. And very thankful not in the Northern middle of our state. They get 4 to 8 inches of snow today.

And so, no snow for us, just a little rain, and a cool and very windy day today. Not even 40 is the high temp today. But at least there’s mostly 50’s highs to follow. Yep. That’s our March, Still feeling like the last effects of Winter, with some Spring feeling temps starting to be more and more.

And so, yay to. Pumpkin having a fabulous time waking and watching racing cars in Vegas. Yeah, not sure when you want to be there when it’s that hot desert time. We were in Vegas when it was so hot, they were handing out free water bottles on the strip. Glad your had no issue coming home, even with the very cool weather you have been having.

And so, back to routine I go, and hope all have s most Terrific Taco Tuesday.

Good Tuesday Morning everyone

Some idiot from my university online Facebook group just offered to write my final paper for my next class. I told him that I was not going to get my degree by cheating. He said it wasn’t cheating. Think of it as assistance. Yeah, I’m sure the university would agree with that.
Wow….I wonder if the University monitors that Facebook page. I hope no one really takes him up on that.

Good for you answering him the way you did. Hopefully it will scare others off who would even consider it.

Good to see you back Pumpkin. Glad to hear you had a nice time.

Yep, Vegas is a lot of walking for sure.

Charade take it easy. Hope you are 100 % soon.

I have my big cup of coffee this morning and I’m sitting in my favorite spot looking at the ducks swimming on the water.

We finally received two back to back down pours yesterday. We needed the rain so bad. It had been a month since we had rain here. We get a good bit of lightening with the rain here too. I heard a bolt hit somewhere near.

Lightening does have an affinity for hitting some of the taller Palm Trees in neighborhood here. It took out one our very tall Royal Palms. We had to have it cut down last February and you could see the inner core was totally brunt and blackened.

I finally found a nice rug for the entry way and ordered it and it should be delivered today. I hope it looks as nice as the picture. I know the colors are somewhat off from what you see online.

I have been taking it easy past few days. Having some issues with upper back. Its one of those things that comes and goes. Small hills to climb in the adventure of life.

Son is doing better and he started his new job last week. He works in finance and he was offered a wonderful job and had only worked a few days when he was hospitalized. They like him so much they held his position for him until he was well enough to start again.

Carole SpaceX is sending up the Falcon 9 this evening at 8:30 pm if all goes well. It’s sending supplies to the Space Station. I will watch it from the back yard. Will take some pics if there are no clouds in the way.

I was able to get out and get some groceries in yesterday. Didn’t need much.

Hubby has his next cataract surgery on Thursday. He did very well with the first one so fingers crossed this one will be as easy.

It is a little cooler this morning after the rain yesterday evening. High today is supposed to be 72. We have been in the upper 80’s lately so this is a Nice change.

My niece sent me a photo of little J. He is sure growing in just this short time. I‘am looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks.

I noticed that the HHN Sticky is already buzzing with possible information for this years upcoming HHN. Seems like a lot of folks are excited about this years possible house line up.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone doing whatever it is that makes you happy.

Happy Pi Day!

I’m staying home again today. Still not sleeping well.

So, yes Pi day.....not that I`m a math fan at all......but love the memes for it!!
I like math and have always enjoyed celebrating pi day. I have a pi day t-shirt and 3 pi lapel pins.

I know we have at least one university employee on the page even though it is not directly affiliated with the university. The conversation I had with him was through private message.

Sounds like a great company to work for.

Glad to hear your boy is doing better and back to work, it must be nice for him to get back to feeling normal and back to work again.

Unfortunately your 8.30pm is our 12.30am, so I`ll be out for the count when it takes off. There are a couple more coming up at different times, so we`ll catch them.

Hope the back is better.....mine is lower back usually, stretches usually help keep it at bay, but sometimes it takes time and a lot of pain relief!!! And good wishes for this Thursday for your husband, hope it goes as well as the first one.

Very jealous of your warmer weather........we`re getting an arctic wind from today for a few days, I can see the cloud direction has already changed and is coming in from the NE now ......translates to bliddy freezing!!!

Sounds like a great company to work for.

I usually make a pie, but not today. I might have dh pick up one.

You should pick up soon, it`s got to get better sometime, plenty of rest and liquids.

No pie here, I didn`t bake one but might pop a crumble in the oven later, I know there are a few on here that have said previously they don`t like pies, but a nice pie is something to savour. We have rhubarb and apples, one of Tom`s favourites.

Gas service man was here around 10.30am, so after he left we headed out to the post office, got the letters, cards and parcels sent off, so they should all arrive in time...hopefully!!

Made spicy shredded and chopped pork lettuce wraps for lunch today....kind of like they do at the Cheesecake Factory, made it buffet style for both of us, it was nice doing it like that....I think I got the best deal on the pork as my lettuce cups seemed to have more than Tom`s

Curry is simmering on a very, very low heat, added the chicken to the sauce and that way it`ll be beautifully tender and take on all the flavours. Will make a naan bread later to go with it.

It has gone cooler, we took a walk down to see the fruit trees earlier, but the ground is soaking wet, so we didn`t venture off the paths or decking but good to see the pear trees are beginning to bud, they look so pretty when they flower, apple and plum trees don`t seem to be doing much yet, they will thought it`s just a little early.

Time for our afternoon pot of tea......

Would you believe I missed almost all of the race? And my driver
And I specially took this picture for you!
He had a great race, and almost didn't win with the bad pit stop - but he pulled out the win in the end. It was a great race. And the Hendricks team took 1, 2, and 3 spots 😊. Dh came home with some 24 gear...as he's now a fan of him and Kyle Larson.

20230305_110557.jpg

And yes, vegas is a one and done for us basically too. DH doesn't drink, I'm not a big drinker, we don't gamble...and like to go to bed early...so it's not really a place for us to visit again. We liked it....but won't return unless it's for a specific person/thing we want to see.

Ugh...I had a whole post started...then wanted to add to it, as I had papers come across my desk...and now it's gone :sad2:

At least the sun is shinning today. I'm going to get into my car over lunch...and drive around and soak up all the sunlight. It's still too cold (for me) to be outside walking yet. It's only about 0F here :rolleyes2, but I can soak up the sunlight while driving around.

Dinner tonight is going to be costco chicken/pasta alfredo meal. I always beef it up and add steamed broccoli and extra alfredo sauce. I was going to make it over the weekend when it was just youngest ds and I...then, he went out with friends that night. So I saved it for an easy weeknight meal. Sadly...it's youngest ds's favorite...but he is working out of town tonight...and won't be home until Friday.

Aw…thank you. Can you believe he won 2 in a row?

I know!!!!! He is starting off the year with a bang!!!! It was a great race to watch. Of course, as soon as dh left to go have a restroom break....that was when Joey crashed :rotfl: IT happened so fast and right in front of us. The only crash...and he missed it lol

Well....I should go find more work to do!

Have a great day everyone!

Well we did have snow and hail stones this afternoon for a couple of hours, it was quite nice to watch it for a while, then it was enough.

Tonight will be a very chilly one with a cold morning, but will just be above freezing, and sun will be shining so it’ll be pleasant to be out in. No idea what we’re doing yet, but we’ll get up to something I’m sure.

Chicken curry was lush tonight! Ideal for a winter’s day, made a naan bread to share and it turned out better than my naan breads usually do. Stuffed it with brown sugar, coconuts and sultanas like the Peshwari Naan from Indian restaurants, I’ll make that one again.

Snoozed for half an hour after dinner, the phone ringing woke me up, felt as if I’d been asleep for a month!

Some tv for us tonight then an early bed I think.

Well, the weatherman was correct for a change, they predicted bliddy cold and it is out there looking at the heavy frost out there, looks gorgeous especially on the evergreen trees and bushes, almost Christmassy......

Already had a cup of tea as soon as I got up, will wait for sleeping beauty to get up before having breakfast later, then we`ll head out into the next town to pick up some bits and bobs we can only get there, will certainly have a warm coat, hat and gloves on.

But the sun is shining which is something. Then we meet up with some friends for our Wednesday lunch, I think it`s a pizza place today someone has chosen, not my first choice but I`m sure it`ll be lovely, it`s more about the company anyway.

So no need for dinner tonight, I`ll make a snack if we need something later.

Toast with preserves first though and another pot of tea.

Have a great Wednesday ☺️

Ah it’s that very dark early morning, and who do I see?

668DEDB4-C9B6-4418-8EAD-97BDDBCA4EFC.png

It’s the camel, and yep, he’s looking like he can’t believe it. Another wind advisory issued for today. So hopefully that means, as hold on to your hat, Friday is now in two more days. Woot to this hump of a day feeling Wednesday.

Just below freezing, but at least 46 the high. Though with 17 mph winds right now, feeling more like 20 degrees not the 31 on my outside thermometer. A little brr from me with that cool windy weather.

Ah, at least not having to commute until tomorrow. Tea and the screen. Yep, week day routine.

Hehe, saw in the early news this morning, a restaurant not that far from us, has a flight of pasta, not beer or wine. Over 3.5 pounds of three kinds of pasta. Maybe a road trip for little one. She’s a pasta and noodle aficionado.

Eh, news of weather and food. Yep, perfect post for this thread. LoL

Hope Charade is feeling better today, and glad to hear Robo’s family feeling better now. Robo, may your coffee stay hot in your HHN mug, and you and family stay healthy and you getting to enjoy that sunny warm weather.

Have a most Wonderful Wednesday all.

I was up late last night posting
woke up late this morning and i see i hit a wrong button and all that i wrote to many peeps….., guess it disappeared

I really hate when that happens….

It’s not going to be a warm day here until tomorrow
so I will spend today house cleaning

When my kids were little I always was picking up after them
Now they are out of the house, it’s the cats i have to clean up after

Finally getting a chance to stop in.

Hopefully the forecast is right, and that this is the last of the cold weather. NO sunshine today...it is cloudy and overcast. I'm tired of putting on the big coat, along with the mittens, and everything else. It's time for spring to make somewhat of an appearance.

It was a quiet night last night. We video chatted with dd and gd and then dh went to bed early...so I got to enjoy some quiet alone time. Which I don't mind doing. It was a sit with the remote, mindless tv and scroll my phone to decompress. Work environment isn't great right now at the full-time job - and hopefully some winds of change happen. So it was a welcome night to just do nothing.

I am thinking lasagna soup tonight. I forgot to take out some meat to defrost this morning. The italian sausages I have will defrost quickly for me to use for supper tonight. I usually get ds to take something out during the day as he would have short shifts at his previous job. This momma forgot he is now at work for dh - so now I have to be even more organized and know what I want to make in the morning, instead of deciding while I'm at work.

I think I will be doing some haircuts tonight. One ds asked to have his done, and I told him to plug in the clippers so they charge. I seen he did as he was told. So I get to wear my hairdressing hat tonight.

Well, I should find a few more things to do yet today.

Have a great day everyone!

Oh Pumpkin, hope your full time job gets much better starting tomorrow. Soup is always a good dinner choice. Hehe, little one cuts DH’s hair. He’s a just a buzz it all off customer.

What do ya do with a clear sky, and was still 40 degrees at our late dinner time? We used our grill, and grilled fresh steaks we bought this afternoon. Sautéed peppers and tomatoes on the grill, some whites rice cooked in the pot, and yum. Dinner served. And was thankful still had propane in the tank. Yep, we never winter our grill. We use it year round.

Yay, sipping my tea and waiting for older one to come home, He should be soon.

Laptop packed up, dress clothes laid out. Should be a warmer day tomorrow, and dry, so I’m hoping an easy commute both ways for my Thursday. Had glorious sunny weather this afternoon, and beautiful blue skies. And yeah, what happens with a clear sky? Temps fall, Yep, will be 28 degrees when I leave tomorrow. But at least should see 56 on the thermometer by time I leave to go home. So looking forward to a warmer day, and much less wind.

Hope all have a very good night sleep.
