Something About Nothing............ #14

Happy pre-turkey day. I have the day off and don't have anything that I absolutely have to do. I just got back from Kohls where I picked up some teddy bears and baby clothes. The teddy bears are for a hockey game dh and I are going to next week. They are having a "teddy bear toss" and the bears will be donated to toys for tots. The baby clothes are for my Sunday school Christmas party. In the past we have always played the dirty Santa game. I hate that game. This year, instead of the game, we are collecting items for a local pregnancy center.

Someone scraped the side of B's car yesterday while she was at work. They left a not with a phone number, but when dh tried to call the number was out of service. The scratch isn't too bad, and the car is 8 years old, so we probably won't do anything about it. Not really worth filing an insurance claim.

I'm going to look for all the supplies I need to make my apple pie for tomorrow and then maybe just spend the rest of the day watching mindless TV and cross stitching.

Slower day today. Still training a casual gal - which is going great. If I suddenly had a headache and couldn't come in one day - she would be fine to work the desk all by herself.

DD called me to drop something off last night - then gd asked if she could come visit while her Mom went shopping. Grammie is always up for a visit. So she came for a visit while dd was out shopping. She had a snack and got to watch a show, and I whipped up some butter chicken for dinner.

Tonight's menu is salisbury steak with mashed tatters and probably some green beans and salad. A good hearty meal to eat after being outside shoveling more snow. We will have snowfall for the next 5 days apparently :rolleyes2 So far the Farmer's Almanac has been correct. It will be a big snowfall year.

Gosh - I started this post right after our morning huddle - it's now almost 3:00 - not that it's been a slow day but it sure seems to be dragging. Is it 4:00 yet.

Have a great day everyone!

My mantra today as I repeatedly soaked my mountain of collard greens…henceforth called the dirtiest greens ever. Finally, clean & dry, sitting in fridge to go in crock pot early tomorrow.

Nothing served in my home growing up, remember being so surprised when I first cooked them and they shriveled down to almost nothing lol

three 9+ # turkey breasts already cooked & sliced in fridge & same number of pumpkin pies. Last of halloween chocolate made it way into chunky brownies. Happy to see my cranberry/orange sauce congealed properly. Tomorrow, start the day off with the greens, two different variations of green beans (interestingly, all with copious amounts of bacon), corn pudding with (you guessed it, more bacon).

I caved to making sweet potato soufflé request vs the caramelized slices I prefer. All I need to do is find that recipe. May just grab off the ‘net as not feeling a search.

covered in a nutella ganache
That is a very professional looking ganache. Not my strong suit.
And got into the cheesecake
That sounds good about right now. I’m at the point I’m sick of eating pumpkin roll…naw, even better as I didn’t have to make them this year. Cheated and bought two
McAlisters
Is that a restaurant or a grocery? Never heard of them
I want to have most of it done by then so that I can start giving it away
Wow, you are uber organized! I haven’t even thought of holiday baking. On a whim bought a container of fresh figs. They are sitting in my pantry taunting me to think of how to use them. Maybe a dark sweet bread? My mom used to make a type in cans, can’t remember if it had figs or not. Thinking raisins maybe, similar to Boston brown bread.
They are having a "teddy bear toss"
I’ve never heard of that tradition

Congrats on your team’s win!
In the past we have always played the dirty Santa game.
And yet another with which I’m unfamiliar
They left a not with a phone number, but when dh tried to call the number was out of service.
That’s very curious. Wonder if the person was so shook up they forgot their phone number, otherwise why in the world would they bother to leave a note?
Grammie is always up for a visit.
The best way to roll :). There is a turkey trot tomorrow morning I should attend, too bad I’ve so much cooking to do :rolleyes1 . Not going to lie, 35 degrees and heavy rain, not feeling it. Lol.

We are lucky, going to miss the worst of the storm unless it shifts a bit south. Then we will get that wintery mix. I don’t mind rain, or snow. Ice brings me to a halt.
Tonight's menu is salisbury steak
I haven’t had that since I moved out of my parents’ house. It was a near weekly rotation with mashed taters and green beans. Think it’s something you either really like or not. Always surprised to see it on many restaurant menus, must be popular.

McAlisters is a restaurant. Their main items are sandwiches, soups, and baked potatoes.

You may know dirty Santa by another name. Everyone brings a wrapped gift then they all draw numbers. The first person opens a gift. The second person can either open a gift or take what the first person has. The next person either opens a gift or takes one from one of the other people, etc.

Today I called the number left on B’s car yesterday and this time someone answered. He was very apologetic and said he was having issues with his phone yesterday. He said he was visiting from out of town and his father, who has Parkinson’s disease, was the one who scratched the car. I don’t think the damage is worth repairing, but dh wants to take it to a body shop next week and see if the scratches can be buffed out.

We call that the White Elephant game, but never heard it called Dirty Santa. Though always had it played in our office holiday get together. Not a fan I have to say. Always ended up with crap I didn’t want.

Hehe, DH keeps asking me in his sleep if it’s midnight yet. Um, not yet.

Light on, for those raiding the frig, or has to take that late night bathroom run.

Time has gotten away from me this week and I am sure all the homies have been busy making your holiday plans.

Wishing all have a feast with family and dear friends on Thursday.
Hope all the homies will drop in and share how their holiday went.
Do remember the homies that come late will be called for the clean up job.

Mr Mac and I plan to have lunch at a Chinese eatery on Thursday.

We always say can’t go wrong to eat at the chinese restaurant.

We take our time and graze.

Happy Thanksgiving!! May everyone have a day worth being thankful for.

About to get started with last minute decorations.

24+ bird, 12 pound ham, chess bars, 2 stuffings, 3 bags collards with ham hocks from us. Guest are bringing potluck, so properly dessert heavy.
Chocolate fondue goes out at noon cheddar, marshmallows, fruit.

Happy Thanksgiving, DJ. What a spread. All sounds delicious.

Day to enjoy food all day, and relaxing.

Mac, chinese lunch is perfect for today.

Heard a windy rain arrive twice or three times, in the predawn hours. I’m one that rain wakes me up, not puts me to sleep. It’s raining again. Not complaining, we do need it.

And fire trucks heard, local, as fire whistle two blocks from us. Seems going up the main street, so not that close. Wet sounding roads. Local news saying should be rain ending around lunchtime. North of me, seeing sleet and maybe snow showers. Cold rain, feels like 43 degrees out.

Good Thirsty Thursday morning, one wherein we can be thirsty for a drink of choice with all the good food to enjoy today.

Thanks Lynne!!
God Bless those firefighters. There is not much that's more draining than fighting fires in extreme climates.

Just checking in to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving with lots of good food and family and friends. We had our traditional dinner at my son and daughterinlaws. We all bring something to share and I brought dressing and glazed sweet potatoe slices. It was a very nice time to visit with family.

My brother, who is very ill, had his dinner brought in by his step daughter. He lives in Tn which is about 1000 miles a way from us, so we are glad he gets help from her. She has been doing a lot to take care of him during this difficult time.

It's horrible to be so far away from loved ones, but we will be visiting him when he feels up to it.

Take care all,

ruth

Absolutely stuffed. Trying to send as much home with everyone as possible. 2nd shift should start getting here as they finish with family.

Good morning everyone. We had a nice day yesterday with friends. All of my apple pie is gone. Today I am going to get my winter clothes out of storage and put away the summer clothes. We might also start Christmas decorating. I just ordered a few things from Amazon to put in the yard.

I just tried to renew my AP online and got a message that it couldn’t be renewed. I’ll be calling later.

I’m also still trying to find us a flight to Orlando for March. The prices are still insane. I don’t know how much longer I should wait. Today we are 99 days away from traveling. Right now it’s looking like our best value is to fly out of Reagan and then fly back into Charlottesvile. We could also fly back into Reagan, but Charlottesville is much closer to home.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and are all recovering from the food coma that seems to happen as well ;)

Is anyone heading out to do some Black Friday shopping????? Probably heading out tomorrow to do hopefully get some xmas shopping done.

Weather is icky gross cold combined with blowing snow :furious: I don't understand how it can be -30C / -22F with snow falling by the bucket. I think we have more accumulation than we had in all of last year. I want this year subscription to winter to do done now - thanks

I'm tired. This week has been dragging. I am ready for it to be done. I was trying to come up with what to make for dinner tonight. I'm tired. I think whatever dh's cc will buy is what's for supper ::yes::

Well, off to complete payroll, get things organized for our weekly booking meeting, and finish another orientation binder for another new hire that starts Monday - as usual...only a casual who probably won't pick up ever :sad2:

Anyways - have a great day everyone!

Once my 4 sons grew up and on their own, we stopped the Christmas gifts and would send them cards with money.

(We got tired of them saying we bought the “wrong” things and can I return it for them.)

They are happy so we are happy.

The daughter in laws receive the same amount.
They do not have to “share “ their Christmas gift.

This solved the problem of me needing to return purchases back to stores.
