OK, here is my situation. We were thinking about booking a trip this October for DD's 6th b'day. We were hoping for FD but that is a blackout week. I was pricing packages online and we're looking at $1750 for 7 nights at Pop and tickets w/ PH. This does not include transportation, but we're driving this trip. I called today to see if we could get a discount and I was told we qualify for 40% off, which would bring my total to $1950. ????? :confused3 I asked why her "discounted" price is more than the price I got online. She said that our first night is the only discounted night that we would pay full price for the rest of our week. But that still doesn't make sense to me, b/c shouldn't that still be less than the original $1750?

Anyway, so our dilemma is, we didn't want to pay more than $2000 for this trip, but with transportation (about $300 to drive with two nights at a hotel to and from) and no FD we're looking at more than that.

Does anyone have a brilliant idea that will get us there for our target price? Any help will be appreciated. It would be hard for us to go at any other time due to school and schedules.

Thanks,
Kristie

I forgot to mention that we're going to speak to our AAA agent tonight so she may be able to get us a discount through them. I think last year it was only $100 though.

It doesn't make sense to me, either. Hopefully AAA will give you better news. If you can't get it within the price you want, don't go plain and simple. Save for next year and make her 7th birthday special.

Why not just go a different week? You can still say it's for celebrating her birthday!

I don't understand how the numbers add up either, but asking me if you should go-I say YES!!!!!! If money is a big issue-you could cut a day or 2 out if you can't change your dates.

Did you try pricing it separately? Surprisingly, packages are always more than itemized. Even if it's just room and ticket.

??? I haven't priced it seperate vs. package in a while, but ever time i ever have, there is no difference. Apples to apples that is.

do you really need park hopper? I have been to disney 70 times and never once used park hopper

1. skip the PH option, with 7 nights, you can easily do all the parks. October won't be crazy like the summer months so crowds shouldn't be unbearable.

2. go a different week that has FD? maybe the week after DD's B-Day. You can give her the trip as a B-Day present. Lot's of awesome ideas that you can do with a disney trip and birthday party.

oh, and i think you will find most of us talking you into going ;)

Hang up and call again... or have your hubby call and see if by making a new reservation under him, it changes. If it does, cancel yours.

Try the room only rate and buy your tickets from Undercover Tourist. Their price should add up to $50 or so less than Disney's. I also agree with dropping the PH option. Stick to one park per day. That's over $200 right there.

I can't fathom anyone on THIS site talking you OUT of going, hehe.

I'd drop the PH and Water Parks (if you had that) and maybe even go a different week. Heck, my daughter turned 5 in May and we are going in September to celebrate. We are calling it her "Princess Trip" since it's so far after her birthday but we have stressed that it's BECAUSE she turned 5 that we are going. I just prefer the crowd levels and weather in September :)

Also, you could always scale back to 6 days to save some money.

I did price it separately and it was the same either way.

I thought about cutting a day or two off the trip but DH is like, if we go, we go for a week. I would rather go for a few days less than not at all.

And thanks to everyone for your responses. Everything you're saying makes a lot of sense. We can't do a different week this year, next year it will be easier to go at a different time. I thought about dropping PH but DD loves wishes (hopefully it's back by then.) so we go to MK almost everynight for that no matter where we spent the day.

I'm going to try to talk DH into dropping a couple of days.

I don't know what week in Oct. you were plannng to go but I found a price of $1708.63 for a preferred room at Pop with tix(not PH) and free quick service dining for Oct 7-14. Hope this helps.

Assuming 7nights = 7 park days for you...

7n No Hopping = 4 MK days with wishes + 3 Other Park Days
5n With Hopping = 5 Park Days with wishes.

So by cutting 2 days off you would get a max of 5 nights of wishes but 2 whole days less at the World.

By cutting park hopping, you can still get 4 nights of Wishes, thus 4 MK days and still have 3 other days for AK, DHS, Epcot. Plus with 4 MK days, you could have some down time on those days.

Personally i would rather have more days at the world, but that's just me.

Everyone had my bright idea already! Drop the park-hopper option and try to shift your dates. Here's what I found...

10/22-10/28 with 7 Day (non hopper) 2 adults, 1 child with Free QS dining:
$1450 at All Star Music (POP not available).

Ta-da!

Go Go Go!!! I'd call and speak to another person...the one you have spoken to seems a little clueless and that has happened to me! I just say "Thank You" and call right back with great results. If worse comes to worse and your heart is set on these dates...cut back a day... or drive straight there without staying at a hotel. We do! We're usually too excited to stop. It's a long drive from NY to FL but worth it! OR cut back a day... There's always a way... think think think :)

I agree with others, get rid of the PH's. Especially if it means not going. We never use PH's and even when we have had them and we have used them we found it too tiring going from one park to another, especially with kids.

Hopefully you could change your dates a little to get free dining.

We drive most of the time from PA and it's not that bad. We will be making the drive again next Friday. We try to leave one afternoon and stay over night along the way.
