Someone convince me!

We did Pirates League for my DD's bday present from Grandma. She loved her mermaid look and I didn't feel it was too outrageously expensive.

I like the pick a pearl idea. or a character meal.

Face painting is also neat and relatively inexpensive.

My DD begged and begged and eventually got a caricature of herself done. Crazy $$ but she really wanted it.

What about silhouettes? They would make nice souvenirs.

If Grandma wants to do it for them, I say absolutely allow it! I feel it is a memory they will never forget. Childhood goes by so fast. Plus you will have the pictures to treasure forever. I wish we had done it with my girls our first trip.

Have you considered the pirates fireworks voyage that they do from the contemporary? You meet there and get to see Captain Hook, smee and special guest (Peter pan) you have snacks prior and then take the voyage and they play games and tell jokes on the boat.

We did it for my three year old daughter at the beginning of this month and it was by far the highlight of her trip. She CONSTANTLY talks about being a princess and we can not keep her out of her Belle dress that she got at the BBB. She tells all her friends and teachers at day care that she is a princess and she even curtsies all the time and our favorite behavior modifier now is just to explain to her that princesses do not act that way and she quickly corrects her bad behavior. It has even gotten her to eat her vegetables a time or two. I would recommend it for the kids more than anything. Even if it has no effect on you they will remember being a princess for the rest of their life. princess:

I love the pearl idea. Grandma can pick a special setting for each of them, and it will be a memento they can keep forever.

:goodvibes

Ditto! I think this is a great choice! Its a reason for them to be engaged at world showcase, it will keep them busy for a bit during food and wine, and it will last more than a day! Not sure about the boys though?

My DD (now 20!) loves to do Pick-a-Pearl. In fact, it's usually the only souvenir she requests at WDW. I think she has 6 or 7 of them. We have never had them set… probably should look into it.

I've never understood the attraction of the "makeover" at BBB either. As a dance mom I do the hairstyles, costumes and shiny things on a regular basis though so maybe I'm just desensitized to that idea.

I think Pick a Pearl is a great option. Grandma can help them pick a setting and they'll end up with something that can last them a lifetime rather than a hairstyle that will fall out in an afternoon and a costume they will outgrow.

I've never been "taken" with the concept of BBB for DD. It's expensive. I look at those little girls in the Florida heat, dressed in their polyester dresses and plastic shoes, with their hair drawn into buns tight enough to raise their eyebrows 2", and just shudder. It's hot and expensive, and I just was never thrilled by it.

Really. You see the BBB Princess girls all over the parks and each time you "shudder." Must make for A LOT of shudders during the day!

Each time I see a BBB I say "hello Princess!" and she smiles or laughs. The girls always look happy to me to be "done up" for the day. If their hair hurts, I'm sure they would have spoken up at BBB to have the style adjusted as the hair do part was going on...and if the outfit is too hot or their feet hurt, they will speak up to their mom or dad. What you are describing sounds close to child abuse!

What about the pick a pearl option in the Japan pavilion or at the BC? They make a show out of opening the oyster and have a range of inexpensive settings to mount it. I have a beautiful ring and pendants from years of visiting WDW, and it's a wonderful reminder of my trips.

I like this idea too. My DD did this when she was three with her grandma, and she still talks about it almost two years later. We plan to do pick a pearl in September when we head back.
