Somehow, The Marathon Returned - comments welcome!

A not surprising update: I signed up for the race. 😅

I did an easy run today and my legs felt fine - except for when I tried a fast interval. 😬 But it was faster than I'd need to run during the race, so hopefully after another day's rest I'll be back to normal.

Goals:
PR (1:15)
Training Plan Goal (1:10)
HM POT (1:08)

Weather forecast is 57 at race start and 62 when I hope to finish. It will be sunny but most of the course is shaded, which should help a lot.

Will rest again tomorrow, keep stretching and massaging my legs, take a warm bath, and ice/heat. 🤞

I'm so excited for you! It really feels like you are ready, and the weather is lining up perfectly. If you find yourself in your head too much or struggling, find someone in front of you (but not TOO far in front) to "pick off", and push until you pass them. Then find another. And another. It's a great distraction and you won't even be thinking about your pace.

Well, came nowhere close to the POT or the 1:10 goal. My leg was ok but my shoulder was bothering me whenever I ran which made it hard for me to push because then I’d tense up. I’m not sure what’s wrong - this has happened before during training. Not sure if it’s a form issue or just need to get stronger.

I wish I could say it was a good time, but the wheels fell off in the third mile and I felt pretty defeated after that. It was hard to push but I wanted to at least PR, which I did by less than 30 seconds. Now I’m disappointed and wish I would have pushed more, but my body just refuses to run fast for long distances. Pity party, it is I!

Hey you pushed through for a PR 👏 well done you should be proud of yourself

Everything can be perfect on paper and the race just doesn't come together. You did great!

That's one of the frustrating things about racing--you never truly know what race day will bring. Congrats on the PR. (And it's interesting that you are asked to "Accept/Decline" the PR. What does that even mean?)

I think it does that in case it messes up the calculation, or there’s a user error and you select an outdoor run when it’s really on the treadmill, and so it thinks you ran waaaay faster than normal. Not that that’s happened to me in the past or anything. 🤣

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I was ready to throw in the towel and abandon my goals for a POT, but I think I’m going to try the Jeff Galloway plan on Garmin and see how I do. After that, it’s pivoting to marathon training again, and I can try for a POT again next winter/spring. (I do want to try to PR the half marathon in training again this year by running with the 2:45 pace group. I felt really great after the half marathon I ran with the 3:00 pace group so I’d like to try to push a little more, but not too hard that I blow up marathon training. 😝)

Have you ever considered joining the Galloway Customized Training Plan? I've seen Chris get remarkable results with runners.

(And if you would like a discount code, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.)

Aw, thank you! I have considered it, but it’s probably not feasible until we’re done with daycare payments. (Which is only a few months away, hallelujah!)

Would you mind if I DM you some questions about the program?

Sure, ask away!

Not to horn in, but I'm curious as well. Would you mind CCing me in? If not, I'll just ping sandam1 separately.

I know it's really hard to not feel disappointed when you don't achieve your goal, but you got 2 PRs! Congratulations!

I may be disappointed with my performance in this race, but at least my outfit was great! (Also, can more races include photos in the registration fee??)

Congrats on your PR!

I've also experienced weird shoulder pain while running that impacted my ability to run fast. I totally forgot about it so I'm not sure why it happened or how I remedied it so not super helpful but sometimes it's nice to know you're not alone.
