You post something that happened to you, at a hotel, for example, ;) , and someone posts, "well that never happened to me and I stay in hotels all the time."

OK, maybe I am making too much of this, but doesn't that imply that they don't believe you?

If you post that the CM at the Poly was rude, why can't people take it at face value. Why do people have to say, "Well they were never rude to me." Or if you check in and your bathroom was dirty and no one came to clean it for a while, what good is it to post that it never happened to you?

I have always hated that. Maybe I shouldn't. Am I overreacting? Am I missing the point of these helpful posts.

If you can all point out that I'm being too hard on these posters, I'll leave this particular one alone!! :teeth:

Well, I've never seen that on these boards, so you must be making this up.

(yeah, it drives me nuts, too)

So people are not allowed to express their own opinions or experiences if they happened to disagree with another poster?

JMO it is a bit of an overreaction.

Well, I suppose looking at it from the flip side, what if there was a newbie reading the threads and they saw a cm was being rude at the Poly. Everyone else chimes in that a cm was rude to them too.

Since nobody posted a reply contrary to that then the newbie would be led to believe that cm's at the Poly were rude and may decide to not stay there. That would be a shame because they could be missing out on a great stay.

I don't have a problem with people posting saying the opposite, I have a problem with the posters who have the attitude when they post. You know, the ones who figure you did something wrong to the cm which in turn made them rude.

Seriously though, my daughter had some stuffed animals come up missing on our vacation and I've been afraid to post about it because of this. I don't want people jumping down my throat because I'm suggesting someone at Disney may have done something wrong. Not that I think they were stolen, that would be silly, but maybe lost in the laundry. But still, DIS boards can be a *creepy voice* scaaaaarrrry plaaaace... :maleficen

But what are they disagreeing about? That it happened?

In my case, I wasn't saying it happened to everyone, or at every hotel, or making any broad statements. I just said it happen to me.

Sorry, but I think you are a bit of a nerd if you have to chime in "uh, uh, I do that all the time and it never happen to me!"

Yes, I can see that if they go into detail. You know, post their experience. But just to post a one line "that never happened to me"...I just think it's a little childish.

ITA, there's a big difference between saying "Sorry you had that experience, our stays there have always been pleasant" and "I've stay there 37 times and not once has anything like that happened to me, or anyone I know, or anyone I might know in the future"

Ok, so I went overboard with the last one. ;)

Wouldn't you want to know if dirty bathrooms, slow maintenance/housekeeping and rude attitudes are the norm at a particular hotel? :confused3

I see what you mean. It is all in the wording....

if they just said "Wow that is terrible, I've never had that experience there but I guess it can happen" it would certainly be different.

Yes, maybe you have a point. I guess it's all in the delivery. Like MzDiz said, there's a difference between, "Wow, that's awful, but we've never had met a rude CM there. Maybe they were just having a bad day." and "well I've stayed there 30 times and they are never rude to me." The latter just reminds me of some weird little kid that has to be right all the time! ;)

As previously stated on this thread, sometimes people try to provide a different perspective. I've rarely seen someone state that whatever perceived negative experience never occurred -- simply that they have not experienced that same thing themselves. I see nothing wrong with that. If that makes me a "nerd", then so be it. (JMO it's a bit a way overreaction to resort to name-calling. )

Well, she's never started with me before! :teeth:

I don't think there is anything wrong with someone saying their experiences, which may support or contradict the OPs experiences, but I agree that it shouldn't be done in an arguing way as much as just simply explaining that they have also stayed there and didn't have that happen (to use the hotel example). That way a reader can come to their own conclusions about whether or not it was an isolated incident or an ongoing problem.

And personally, I think we're all nerds, discussion board nerds, so there!!! :rotfl2:

I think it depends... A couple of weeks ago someone posted a really strange story about something that happened. Many people jumped all over that one because they just thought there was alot more to the story than the OP was telling.

You get it with Wal-mart - Target threads alot. Someone posts "I hate Wal-mart/Target because its dirty, crowded, fill in the blank. I don't think people are saying they don't believe you, they are saying where they live it doesn't happen.

I agree with people posting both sides. We were thinking about staying at the HRH, but there have been so many postings about how rude the staff was, we went with the RPH. Maybe the staff at the HRH isn't as rude as people say, but since I read so many bad things it changed my mind and I booked with another hotel.

I really didn't want to start with anybody with this thread. I was just about to pick a fight with someone and I felt like if I made fun of the situation (myself, included), I'd just forget about it.

And yes, I'm the biggest nerd of all, so jokes on me! :thumbsup2

:lmao: You're right, MzDiz--there's a huge difference between acknowledging that someone may have had a less stellar experience than yourself and flat out acting like they're overreacting or making it up.
