Need to eat in MGM one night, or at least really close to MGM. I want to do a table service and 50's Prime Time, Hollywood and Vine, Mama Melroses and Sci Fi are my choice (in MGM). I'm thinking about Sci Fi because I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old.

Is Sci Fi a good idea related to the other choices? Anybody recommend another?

I think 50's Prime Time or Sci Fi will be fun for them! They both provide excitement in their own ways - Sci Fi with the cars and the clips they show on the screen and 50's with the interaction of the wait staff and the decor. Enjoy!! pixiedust:

I have a 8yr old and 2 1/2 yr old. the 2 year old was scared by some of the films at sci-fi. It is also kindave dark. Personally we did not enjoy the sci-fi.

Ive done Sci Fi and 50's Primetime before and I preferred Sci Fi.. We are going back in a few weeks and SciFi is on the list..

At SciFi you can buy a glow in the dark souvenir cup with drink and a glow cube .. It is so cool to be drinking it with the glowing cube in it.. Your kids will get a kick out of it..

We love Sci Fi. Its a great place to relax, the movie clips keep everyone occupied. I can see a younger kid getting a bit unnerved by them however. Although in all the times we have eaten there I have never heard a kid crying. I think Prime Time sounds fun but my husband doesn't like the idea of having to play along with the waitress. I also wonder if your kids might not understand the humor of that 1950's era "eat your vegetables" thing and not be all that entertained :confused3 ? I just am partial to Sci Fi, have always had great burgers, shakes, fries and salads and there is something very cool about eating in a car!

Just a warning, my kids wouldn't get down to the business of eating their expensive meals b/c they were too distracted by the movies. Also, it is dark and kind of noisy, so if they don't like that it isn't worth it.
We also found it hard to help them with their food, b/c they were in different bench seats from us in the car.

Between that and the so-so food, we won't be going there again.

We've done both 50's and Sci-Fi. 50's is our favorite. When my dd, then 10, and I ate at Sci-Fi it wasn't all that terrific. We were put into a car that was empty (it was the first seating of the day), but they put another family in the car with us. The woman in front of me kept swinging her hair around and it just missed my plate of food. It was dark, we could barely see the menu, the food was iffy...way overcooked hotdog and burger. It was one of the few places we just won't go back to.
But, we love 50's. My dd and I have eaten there about 4 times now. The first time we were there with another family. Everything was great...we had a terrific server..Cousin Chris who was way over the top. My dd keeps asking to eat there on every trip. However, we are going to be in WDW in OCt with the mother/daughter from the family we were with before, and that dd has pleaded not to go back to 'the place where they made you eat your veggies!!' She was mortified then. My dd loved it and they are the exact same age. So, it just shows how some people love the 'banter' at 50's while others hate it. But the food has always been great there.

my fav at mgm is brown derby but while it's kid friendly the kids might not get the theme unless they are really in to playing dress up/tea parties.

in Jan of 04 we had a terrible meal at scifi, probably the worst of our whole trip. husband got the burger but it was so burnt he really couldn't eat it, (i think his burger was around $10, I just got soup which was ok but overpriced) our snotty hostess allowed us to wait 45 mins for our 3pm adr and then the restaurant was 1/2 empty( so why the wait?), then had to sit with a family of 4 ( crazy since most cars were empty)and had to wait for them to order to order, for them to get and eat their appe, then when they got their entree( full course meals by the way), ours came too ( soup and a burger, another 45+ min wait in a near empty restaurant after we ordered?????) we might have gotten dessert but had had it by then, so over 2 hrs tied up for a burnt burger. while the atmosphere is cute, imo it just is not worth it for lousy overpriced slow food

we had a pretty good meal at primetime and never have gotten around to eating at mama melrose.

I like both the Sci Fi & the Prime Time. I do prefer the Sci Fi though!

We have it planned twice when we are there in the summer.

The Sci Fi is a lot of fun. Both of my kids almost 3 and 7 enjoyed it. The 3 yo was a little hesitant at first because of the darkness, but when he got settled, he really liked eating in the cars. He loved the chips with the spinach dip. They even brought him seconds. :)
