Some thoughts on our 1st DLR trip

Unfortunately, as a single parent, it would take a lottery win for us to be able to stay at someplace like the DLH or GC. And even then, I don't think I could mentally bring myself to spend upwards of $300 a night for a hotel room. Ever. I just wish there were actual *choices* of onsite lodging as at WDW, but I know there is no room. And I know that's why Walt bought so much land in Florida, to prevent that ever happening at WDW. What I don't get is, how come Disney doesn't buy out some of the places across the street like the Park Vue Inn, and at least have a moderate category hotel price point?? They could extend the entry across the street, surely, and have at least a little of a bubble. Not much they can do about the very disillusioning things like hearing sirens while you're in the parks. Heard that twice, pretty loud, and it was jarring and burst even my in-park bubble.

I agree with the entire Disney Bubble concept you are discussing. I also try and stay onsite for this reason and typically we stay at the Paradise Pier hotel usually when we can get a good rate.

We have stayed offsite a few times and it was not nearly as fun.

I took an umbrella stroller for my just turned 4 yr old. She is active and not fat and lazy. But the stroller made it easier for us to get places more quickly w/ two older brothers and not wear her out. She is a napper and was exhausted everyday. yes we took a late afternoon break but even so w/ the early mornings and late nights - I am really glad I had the stroller. I have no desire to wear my child. She could easily walk when she wanted to and rest as needed. I did look and wonder why people would bring a ginormous running stroller into the park however.
If you can get by w/o a stroller great. But, why worry about those who want to use them unless they are running in to you.

Well there lies the problem right there. They are always running in to you. We go to DL about once a month and I've had my ankles bruised, shoes taken off from the heel, bags knocked out of my hands, etc from people running into me with their strollers. If someone is next to me or in front of me with a stroller, I give them plenty of room, I'm never in a hurry. But I can't do anything about the people who come up behind me and just aren't paying attention to the crowd speed and run right into the back of me or side swipe me to run around.

There's a trip report on here somewhere and every time I see the title it makes me laugh: "It's a stroller sir, not a battering ram".

Yep- just proves my statement...it's the driver & not the stroller itself. I've taken a stroller for the last 3 visits & never once have I run into anyone.

Although, I will say that I have had folks literally STOP walking right in front of me & if I hadn't have been paying attention or had as much room between us, I would have hit them. I have also had people run right in front of my stroller (wheelchair too!) & narrowly avoided a hit & run...haha...

But in all seriousness- it's the drivers to blame & not the strollers themselves.

On our last trip, I had a woman stop her stroller smack in the middle of a walkway. So I went to go around her & as soon as I'm in front of her, she decides to run into me with her stroller. So I turned around & said "when you hit someone with your stroller, it's polite to apologize". She pretended she couldn't hear me...ugh!

I have wondered the same thing. Over an over again you see people in search of a moderately priced hotel(instead of motel) within walking distance. I'm thinking that Disney or some other developer could bulldoze a couple of the two story motels right across the street and make one heck of a hotel. Add a DTD style bridge across harbor and the Disney bubble would be greatly expanded. I'm sure if Disney could offer a "budget" hotel with an easy walk for say $150/night it would book solid year round.

There must be a good reason this hasn't happened. Maybe it will someday. Until then I will stay on property when I can afford it and off when I can't.

That's an excellent idea! I've always thought DLR needed a budget on site property just like the Pop-All Stars (whatever they are called) at WDW. It's just a sea of high priced with nothing even in the moderate category. SMH
