I am a planner...Aren't most of us? haha...Anyway I am atempting to get an SSR ressie for 12/25/04 thru 1/1/05 for a studio. I was told to start calling before the last date, which is a totally different thing than the book says.

Why should I do this? And what will it accomplish?

This is my first time at this & I have come to rely on all of you to send me in the right direction!!!

I love this group!

I think they are refering to calling day by day for a ressie that includes this busy holiday time. You would call Jan. 26 to reserve Dec. 25. Tell them you are linking all the days and then call back the next day to reserve Dec. 26. Have that one linked to the first day as well. Continue this for all the days of the ressie until the last one is made. This is usually only necessary for popular ressies during popular times and at the smaller DVC resorts. For Example: If you are trying to reserve a GV during the holiday time, you would definately use this method. It is also more necessary at places like BCV, BWV, and VWL during popular times. OKW isn't so much of a problem because of the higher number of units.

Some people call "day to day". Meaning that they call for each day of the reservation separately and then connect them as they go along. This might be necessary for some hard to get reservations, like a standard room at the BWV for New Year's eve but it isn't generally necessary for most DVC resorts and times. Since SSR resort is new and there is no track record of what the demand will be, I can't tell you whether you should call day by day or not. My guess is that since its the first New Year at SSR, you might want to call for at least part of it day by day.

Some folks during a popular time (me included) opt to do a day by day reservation starting from the day after your arrival. You call every day or couple of days telling MS that you are adding on to an existing reservation. Tell MS from your first call that this is what you plan to do and they will wait till you've completed all your days to send the confrimation letter. Some folks say this is not necessary and wait until 11/7 months from the departure date to call. I do this at less popular times. But if I want a certain view at BWV I'll call day by day.
You can ask MS how busy does it look when you call.

By George I think I've Got It!

Now let's hope I can get it during this time!:p

this is only necessary during very popular times - the first two weeks of Dec, maybe Thanksgiving, maybe Easter (not Spring break just Easter) - everything else you should be able to call at the end in your case Feb 1 - and make the entire reservation - that is what you could normally do - but Christmas to NY is WDW busiest season - so I would call day by day, too!

I am really confused by this advise.

I am new to this game also, but to me it seems like all that needs to be done is wait for the 11 month window (which would be February 2004) to make the reservations for the appointed time.

Why is there a need to call day by day?

I think the reason she was asking this question is because she is traveling during the busy holiday season. Also, because she is looking for a studio, that will be more difficult as well.

The OP wants to book a reservation for 12/25 through 1/1. This is one of the busier times of year at WDW (and DVC resorts), with New Year's Eve (12/31) being particularly popular. Waiting until the 11 month window for the departure day could leave the OP without the desired accommodations for one or more of the days earlier in the stay due to others making 11 month bookings with earlier departure dates.

At one time, DVC had a special reservation process for the Christmas holiday period because of the expected demand. This is permitted under the POS for the DVC. It has not been used in recent years.

RAlph, the only time I ever remember the special seasons prefernce list being used was Holiday season 1999-2000 for the Millennium. WE were lucky enough to get our name drawn. AS it turned out, they didn't fill them all with the lottery winners, so they opened it up anyway.
