I was out checking up on things. Most blooms are gone, but I do have a few things happening. My roses are still blooming. My purple heart is thriving, despite the high heat. The elephant ears I planted earlier this summer are doing very well. The leaves are enormous....:D

Gorgous pictures...

LOVE the "elephant ears"!!!

:)

Lovely pic's olena.

I also planted an Elephant's Ears this year too. Mine is in a pot and it's thriving. Have no idea what I'll do with it when winter rolls around.

Keep it indoors. Or you can dig out the bulb, after it dies off. Let it dry out and store it over the winter. When the temps get above 32 degrees, you can put it back outside.

Great pictures Olena, so pretty!! :) Thank you!

Was it TigH's father who hide behind some elephant ears pretending he was naked? Now that's a garden party!! LOL :p

So glad I can see the pictures now. I was here earlier and saw only red x's!! :(

Those Elephant Ears are SOMETHING ELSE!!!! OMG! I am floored by them. I can't believe you told Mamu to bring them indoors! WHERE would you put them!? "Excuse me honey, can you get me some soda from the fridge - just push aside that elephant ear and be careful not to get it caught when you close the door". LOL :p :p

Up north, you have to bring them in. It gets too cold. I think they're more of a house plant up north.

Tuli thanks for the laugh!

Every time I look at this plant I'll laugh. My friends and family may think I'm nuts but I'll be picturing trying to open the fridge. I hope I don't have a Seymour on my hands.

Yaaaaaaaaaay! Your elephant ears look great!!!! And I can almost smell that rose. I love all the pictures!!!!

Man, I am so ashamed of my yard this year. I have not kept up on weeding at all, so I can't take and pictures to share with you guys.

ALL the elephant ears that we chopped down and thought we had gotten rid of last year came back (I'm pretty sure I dug the roots out for most of those suckers.) Anyway, ours do not look nearly as pretty as yours (mostly because they have run rampant through the umkempt woods in our back yard and they are surrounded by weedy vines and just plain old weeds!)

Snowwark, yeah, it was my goofy Dad. He also calls their mandevilla (sp?) plant "Cruella de Villa" and has named a "good looking" pygmy date palm in their front yard Geoff (after himself because it's so handsome....)

That rose looks exactly like the one I planted this year. My $4 rose from WalMart has taken on very well....I have about 6 to 8 more buds waiting to open.

I love those purple hearts!!!!!!

Nice pics...thanks for sharing!!!

Oh and what is up with the maroon colored leaves on those roses - I am assuming they do that before they bloom. That's what happened with the first blooms I had...I've never had roses before!!!

Maroon leaves are new growth. Always a good sign....:D

Those are great... I like the elephant ears as well.

Great pics Olena. Your roses are beautiful. I love the elephant ears. Makes me want to try it although I would worry about it taking over my house in the winter and trapping DS's in the frig:)

warning silly plant story:
When we moved into our house a few years ago there weren't too many plants that the previous owner had planted but one I thought was unusual and exotic was doing well. I thought it was an elephant ear or at least in that family. Well, a very snooty landscape designer while visiting us and our snooty next door neighbors informed me that this exotic elephant ear I had been nuturing was really a weed and that it grows wild here and if I didn't get rid of it it would take over my flower bed and my neighbors. I ripped it up but it keeps coming back. I don't know if my neighbor had it running wild.
Just goes to show ya one persons weed is anothers perrenial.

LOL....Great story! You may have to get out some Round Up....or dig out the bed.
