Hi
We didn't go to Disney last year and am a bit out of the loop. Our eldest son has Downs and we usually get a red card that allows us to join the fast pass queue.
Has this been stopped?
Usually we just turn up and make our way around the park.
Do we now have to prebook all the rides?
Have looked at a few posts and am a bit confused!
Thanks
( right need to start signing up for the outlets and the food places)

I get it that you used to have GAC (guest assistance card, the one with the stamps on it) If you already had DAS (from october 2013 on) then you're in known territory

now it is DAS.
you need to go to a park's guest relations with your son and explain the situation (just like you used to do)
the CM will take a picture of your son with an ipad and issue a DAS card with your son's picture on it.
It will say how long it's valid for, and how many guests are allowed to ride with him

to use it, go to the ride you want to do. And ask the greeter (CM) for a return time
the CM will write down a return time equal to the standby wait time minus 10 minutes.
So if the standby is 60 minutes, they will write down a time 50 minutes away
once that time has come you can come back to the ride at the FP+ queue, show your son's card (he needs to be there) and you will enter the FP+ line
you'll show the card again at the point where the FP line joins the SB line (where they used to collect paper fastpasses)

basically it works like good old fashioned Fastpass, except that you can have one anytime, even when they have run out
and you can come back to the ride whenever you want on that day (couple of hours)

you can only have 1 return ride at a time, which means you can't go to another ride until you are done with the current ride on your card
if you wish to change rides, you need to go the that next ride and they will void your current ride return time, and you will have a new return time based on that ride's wait time minus 10 minutes. If you have already waited for the other ride, it doesn't matter, the clock resets based on the new rides wait time.

you can use that card in combination with FP+.
I have DAS, so let me give you an example

I have a FP+ for soarin' and my DAS.
my FP+ for soarin' is at 10-11am and the standby line is 60 minutes.
I go to the FP+ entrance with my DAS card at 10am and request a return time for soarin', I get 10:50am as a return time.
I enter the FP+ line immediatly as I have FP+. By the time I exit the ride, it's almost time for my DAS return time, so I don't have much of a wait to ride again.

So definitely book your FP+ that's 3 more rides guaranteed on top of the disability card

If you still have questions, please ask

Thank you so much for a quick and detailed response.
I assume at Universal you still have to go to Guest Relations every day?

Hi Chmurf- I was wondering if you could also help me too- I have not been since the new system came out- Have they made more lines fully accessible to ECV's and wheelchairs in the parks over the last 2 years- I found that for some rides I did not even show my gac as I had to use a different entrance anyway.

I don't know what kind of pass you had at Universal

I had (october 2013) the Attraction Assistance Pass (which works somewhat like the new DAS at Disney's) it's a long white cardboard card
it has a date range for validity. mine was validated for 14 days as I had a 2 park bonus ticket valid for 14 days. So only one visit to guest relations (except for renewal if you run out of lines on that card)

I can't answer since I do not use an ECV or wheelchair, so I never really paid attention to the accessible lines.

From what I get, the DAS (formerly GAC) is more for hidden disabilities.
A wheelchair is self explanatory. You'll always need to ask the greeter about the procedure.
The CMs at guest relations will tell you what to do

other ressources for your question include the disabiliies board on this forum.

there also are maps for disability (some are outdated but still are useful)

Not sure what to do here wrt fast pass +. I do not want to book these then find out I can't use the fast passes anyway as I have to go in a different way - This happened on a previous trip to wdw before I knew about the gac card (and for anyone else who reads who may go to alton towers in a wheelchair do not purchase the express passes - you can not use them- wasted £100 and what was worse we booked on the phone and bought a disabled entry ticket - go figure!!).

So I am trying to put together list of rides that use alternate entrances- I have tried the disability treads - but its like the secrete service :rotfl2:- No one seems to want to say what these are - I can't link to any of the maps that may help as they are on disney.com- arghhh- After our recent Alton towers trip fiasco - I want to make sure I get it right this time. I wish I had a better memory as I have been many times but not for a good while.

We could probably get a DAS but I.m not sure if I will bother as it sounds like someone would have to go all the way to the ride you plan to do then come back to group- It just feels that once again I will be creating more work for the rest of my family. It would also mean leaving me(ECV) with MIL (wheel chair) and diabetic DD (who sugars are affected by the heat & we go in AUG) -I think that could be a recipe for a disaster.

So I am figuring that using a list for alternative entrances and fast pass + were we can would be best. But I need the list.

just read your reply churmf - the maps:worship: thank you - that's what I needed, not sure why my computer won't let me open them in the disney site but does on your links
