Hey guys! I'm new to the forum, and I'm hoping to be able to become a DLR CP member for Spring 2014! And obviously, I'm just full of questions. I've been looking around the forums, reading tons of posts, and been looking around at different blogs too, and I think doing the DLR CP would be an amazing opportunity. So, here's a couple of questions:

1. What job do you think would be best for me to apply for? Or better yet, what do you think I would likely be placed in with my experience?

I currently have 2+ years of experience at a tutoring center, and I work with the kids 3-7 teaching them to read and basic math. I'm also studying to become an elementary school teacher. I do have a second job, as well, as a restaurant hostess for the past couple of months.

2. Do you think I have a decent chance of getting in?

I'm 19, a girl, and I'm super friendly and love kids! I go to a local community college in Southern California, and I maintain a 3.7 GPA. I also work 30+ hours a week, and have 2+ years of experience working. I also have ~3 years of volunteering experience. I'm obviously going to leave both jobs if I'm accepted, but is having worked this much a good indicator that I'm a hard worker?

3. Is it harder to get into DLR than WDW?

I live less than an hour from DLR, and I don't think I could move across the country for my first time away from home. So obviously, I want to do DLR.

4. Any tips, stories, memories, anything you want to share! I'm completely obsessed with doing the DCP, and I'd love to hear anything you have to share :)

Sorry for such a long post guys! I completely appreciate any help and tips anyone can give me. I can't wait for the application to open in the next month or so. I'd also love to talk to any Spring hopefuls and alumni who can share their stories! Thanks everyone, so much :) :grouphug:

1. Considering math skills, I recommend going the Vacation Planning (Ticket Selling) or Resort Front Desk/Concierge route. You deal with cash handling and need to be good with large quantities of money.

2. Given your GPA and present work experience, I'd say that you have a good chance, the big thing is the phone interview. If you have a great attitude and work ethic, convey that and it will definitely boost your chances. If you don't make it your first time around, you're still young and will have many more opportunities.

3. Given the sheer size difference alone, DLR takes significantly less people than WDW, I would say there is more competition to get in to DLR.

Oh wow, I didn't even think about the Vacation Planning and Front Desk jobs. That's true, I have 2+ years of experience at the tutoring center, then more experience tutoring middle and high school students. I thought I might have a chance at working in Food Service, or perhaps Custodial, because I also have experience bussing at the restaurant.

As for the great attitude and good work ethic, I definitely think I have those! As a host, I constantly have to be upbeat and friendly, so hopefully I can work past my nerves and sound happy and excited over the phone :) And I worked 80 hours the past two weeks, so I hope they see I have a great work ethic haha.

And well, hopefully I get DLR! I don't want to go so far for WDW.

Thank you so much for your response! It was really helpful and gave me a couple new ideas for what I could apply for!

With math skills, don't rule out attractions. Many attractions require someone to do quick mental calculations in the grouper position. Take Star Tours- 5 rows in each sim. First 2 rows are 8 seats. 3rd row is 7 seats. 4th row is 8 and 5th is 9. Most parties of guests are between 2 and 5 people.

Our opinion on your chances of being selected does not matter... and really can't be formed. If you make it to the phone interview, you'll need to be able to sell yourself to the person on the other end of the line. Figure out the best way to leverage your skills/experience into working for Disney- specifically your top pick of positions.

No one knows which location is harder to get into and there probably isn't a clear answer. Some will say DLR is harder because it is smaller. But it could also be said that less people would apply for DLR because you have to pony up $800+ if you get an offer and accept it (vs. $300+ for WDW) and less people applying would make it easier to land a spot there.

You have the option of picking one or the other when you apply. You can also pick both. But becareful on what you choose, because if an offer is made, it will be for one place and you can't change. If you get offered WDW, you can't change it to DLR.

Read the official website, disneycollegeprogram.com, and also their blog, disneyprogramsblog.com. They have a TON of application/interview tips on their blog.

Also be aware that things constantly change about the program. A lot of information that is out there on personal blogs and whatever is out of date and incorrect. And even someone who just left the program may not be aware of a new change. And also be careful of people who give "facts" that are really just their opinion ("this job is awful", "this complex is the best" and things like this are all opinions).

I'd say the proportion is about equal, if not a little bit higher for DLR because of the people who apply for both but focus on WDW.

I didn't really think about Attractions, but that's true, it does require some math. I'd prefer not to be in Attractions if possible, though, because I hear people say it got very tedious and after awhile, they hated it. So hopefully if I do get in, I get in somewhere else!

And also, I know that your opinions don't matter, but I was just curious :) I'm still new to learning about DCP, so I was just wondering what people might have thought!

Also, my friend got offered a position at both WDW and DLR when she applied in Fall 2011, so has it changed since then?

I've read through those, and I like hearing first hand accounts. But thank you for the tips! It was very helpful :goodvibes

It is safe to say that a number things would change over a 2 year span of time. They changed the application right about then. DLR and WDW had 2 different applications. Right around then they changed both of their websites and also put everything on the one application. Here is an article that talks about this very thing.

https://disneyprogramsblog.com/disney-college-program-questions-of-confusion-part-1/

It is the 3rd Q&A. Not your exact question, but part of the answer touches on it.

"If an offer is extended, it will be specifically for either Walt Disney World or Disneyland, in a specific role, and on a specific program session. An applicant must base their decision to accept or decline their offer on what the location, role, and program session they were reserved."

I suppose you could also ask on there or shoot an email to wdw.college.recruiting@disney.com
