Solo trips to disney world? Thoughts...

I have been to Disney many times and did one solo trip a few years ago. I think the hardest part of the whole thing was telling people I was going alone. Not one person understood why! lol But I am a pretty independent person, so I was ok with doing a lot by myself. I ended up having a great time! It was so nice to go where I wanted and do what I wanted. A lot of people asked me if I would get lonely...and I did at times (especially at night) but there were always tons of CMs and other people to interact with. My trip was 4 nights and 3 days, and for me, that was plenty long enough. I am not sure if I could do a full week or longer by myself, but I know there are many people on here that do and enjoy it!! I am considering doing another solo trip in the fall. If you are independent and want to do Disney your way, then I totally suggest a solo trip! Just beware that most people(except for many here on the Dis) will not understand why you are going by yourself and will look at you like you have a third eye!

I've never done a full vacation but I have done day trips. If your outgoing enough to talk to strangers constantly it's not too bad.

I 100% agree - WDW is for sharing family memories. I would never think of going without my family. The more the better. I love our special family time at WDW. They are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. I don't care about better fastpasses or ADR's if I am not with my family it wouldn't mean anything to me.

WDW is for whatever you want it to be for & for whatever makes you happy.

I have thought of doing a solo trip but thought at night back at my room I would probably get lonely just like you did. I still think a couple of days would be fun !

i adore my yearly (since 2006) solo trips to wdw!!

i do take my sons on trips one on one various times during the past years so they are not deprived.......

i really enjoy my time alone in the parks as i can park hop, eat when i am hungry and not because a son is famished at the height of meal times in the parks,
i can change my plans and planned itinerary anytime, etc.

i can eat where i want, make my adr's for places that have my favorite foods, snack anytime, etc.

my solo trips are when i do the tours in the parks.
backstage magic was absolutely the best.
have done 4 other tours on different trips.

one thing i look forward to is the privacy in having the room to myself.
take a shower when i want, watch the disney channel anytime i am in my room (no sports for me when i am on vacation...lol), and just be able to relax.
having silence in the room is just the opposite when i am at home.

i always have my ipad and cell with me so the husband and sons can reach me at anytime.

i can remember how free i was on my first solo trip to disney.
was worried about a few things but that passed quickly when i arrived at the hotel.

op, if your dh is willing to handle the children at home so you can take a solo trip, go for it.
you might never get this opportunity again.

Do many of you make disney trips alone? I want to do a disney world trip without my children at some point, but my DH (this means husband right? Still learning the lingo... lol) really just is not as excited about disney world as I am. Have any of you ever gone alone? Was it fun? Did you like it? Was it hard getting ADR's for one person? Spill!!!!! Please.....

I did a solo trip in 2010 and enjoyed it. I missed my wife and daughter dearly, but that is what marriage and family is all about. I still had a great time. No issues with reserving ADRs for me. I enjoyed being able to do whatever I wanted to do, whenever. I have another solo trip scheduled for next November too.

I did one awhile back, and would love to do it again. However, I'm at the stage in my life that I can't go to the bathroom solo, or at least without an interested party outside of the door, so I think I may have to wait a few more years!

I actually prefer going alone. I went a couple of years ago with a friend and didn't enjoy it all that much. I was NEVER alone and I hated that part of the trip. I'm single and have lived alone most of my adult life so having another person with me at all times was not good for me. I love being able to do what I want when I want and can stay in the room when I get peopled out. I'm an introvert and need my alone time.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but there is an entire DIS Board forum called "Disney for Adults and Solo Travelers." I'm sure it would be helpful.

I just did a quick (2.5 park days) solo trip to WDW in February and it was fun but different. It wasn't technically solo since I was tagging along with my DH, who had a conference in Orlando, but he didn't go to WDW with me and I only ever saw him for a few minutes in the morning. I booked ADRs and FP+ a month out and I was able to get everything I wanted except for BOG. The best parts about being alone were doing "big" rides without anyone having to wait for me, shopping, and eating. We have a 2 and 4 year old, so I haven't been able to do much shopping on our family trips and eating with two little ones is definitely not as enjoyable as a quiet solo meal with my Kindle. I did miss having the kids there the rest of the time though. I found myself tearing up a little bit during parades and fireworks, thinking how much they would love it if they were there. I recommend trying a solo trip, it won't be the same but it is fun. I probably wouldn't stay too long for your first though, maybe 4 park days or so.

I've been solo twice and loved it, I usually go with my son and DIL so there are always times alone anyway but I loved be able to do what I wanted when I wanted. I travel most of the time by myself anyway, DH just doesn't like to travel and I do.

Absolutely!

I've done a few solo trips to both WDW and Disneyland, and would do it again in a heartbeat -- in fact, that is probably the only way I'll ever get back to DL as my travel buddy has very little interest. I am very much an introvert though, and I enjoy spending time on my own. It isn't for everyone!

I highly recommend doing things you wouldn't do on a "normal" trip. Take a tour, eat somewhere new, tour the monorail resorts, etc.

I loved my solo trip! I have 3 kids and do enjoy my trips with them but I just wanted to experience it by myself. It was great to just do whatever I wanted when I wanted. I rode the great movie ride twice in a row which my family would just groan. Sat at the tune in lounge at HS and chatted with the bartender and other patrons. Park hopped all over the place.

Took breaks. Sat by the pool. Ate at restaurants. Talked with other families. It was such a fun experience. I would totally do it again. It's different but in such a neat way.

I think you would not know unless you try. One time when we left the kids home my DW and I decide to do one of our days solo. By lunch we were ready to join back up. We both enjoy the World with each other. As for your DH, let him know that is something you would like to do and as long as he is with you then it will be a fun time.
