Solo traveler looking for fellow Disney-loving friend!

Hey!!

I'm not so much a Disney seasoned-soloist, but for the past few years I've definitely been out exploring on my own. I had a rough break up with a guy, and we had at least one trip planned, so I figured I wouldn't let the break up stop me from traveling. So I have just been traveling solo since! I solo traveled a bit before then, but not to the extent I do now. I did.

I have gone to Disney during the Christmas season! It was actually during my solo Disney trip in 2011. It was soooo much fun! Disney at Christmas is just extra magical. My trip this December was originally a solo trip (I've been planning it since October), but then I had to go and fall in love --- luckily with a guy who also loves Disney! We just got back from a road trip, so I can't wait to go down to Disney with him.

Any place, other than Disney, that you really want to travel to?

Hi Tabby! Im sorry to hear about your rough breakup but it sounds as if it was the beginning of your love for solo travel, which is great :-) I love taking trips with friends but I also really enjoy traveling by myself sometimes. I've been going yearly to the parks now since around '09. Saying I go solo is a bit of a white lie as I have some Disney-loving pals who live in Orlando and I usually meet up with them at the parks. Lucky you to see Disney at Christmas!! I might just have to save up some vacation time for a special trip in December... ;-)

Sounds like you and your bf share a love of travel! :-) it's the same with my bf and I -- we both work for an airline so we enjoy flying. Just got back from a fun trip to St Augustine. I'd love to visit lots of places!! You name it, and I'd probably find something there that I'd want to see/experience :-) How about you?

Hi all - just wanted to toss my hat in the ring in case you decide to do an Atlanta meet up!

Hi all - just wanted to toss my hat in the ring in case you decide to do an Atlanta meet up!

Hi DuffGT! Wow, I didn't realize there were so many Disney fans here in Atlanta! :-) I was kind of joking around about the meet but if people really are interested I'm sure we could work out some kind of get-together here! I could probably post something in the DisMeet section to spread the word. I'm always up for meeting new friends who enjoy Disney! :-)

I would so love to meet up with people at WDW. I've only gone twice :(
I was supposed to have a trip planned for September 2014 with two other people it looks like our plans have fallen through.

I'm 24 (25 in Nov.) and I have yet to meet any Disney-loving people close to my age. I went to WDW solo last September and while I loved it, I was also bummed I didn't have anyone to be excited with!

I'd love to do a WDW meet-up, possibly even share a room with another fellow Dis'er(s) to bring the cost down.

I did this for a girls only trip to Disneyland about 5 - 6 years ago. It was kinda scary but I have made some of my greatest friends through it. We still meet every year at Disneyland. I'd love to do this with WDW people!

I have not heard of Cedar Point but a quick look at wikipedia shows that it is coaster-centric, so I doubt I will put it on my list of parks to visit (noooot a coaster fan hehe). I never really was able to find a friend to travel with so I just started venturing out on my own. Very cool you've seen so many of the states! Hawaii is a definite for me one of these days. Love National Parks too, though it's been a while since I've been to one. Hope you have luck convincing the hubby that Disney is indeed a good vacation spot! If not, maybe just a trip for the girls? :-D I think an overseas excursion would be awesome, too, or maybe even taking one of the Disney cruises somewhere.

Break up sucked - but if it hadn't of happened I wouldn't have the guy I do now... so in a way I'm lucky.

Actually me traveling solo more started when I worked for Cedar Point (its an amusement park if you haven't heard of it). We only got one day off a week, and so I wanted to be faaaaar from it because it gets a tad suffocating! I didn't usually go too far, but I did do a last minute trip to Niagara Falls. So I explored a bit. :)

I just like traveling in general. Solo traveling is different than traveling with the boyfriend. And certainly different than traveling with friends. My friend that I have traveled with in the past though is now married so that complicates things. :D But I'm trying hard to convince her and her husband to come to Disney in December! I have her convinced but her husband doesn't have much interest in Disney.

You definitely should try Disney at Christmas someday. :goodvibes

I don't know where I really want to travel next... I love visiting National Parks. And I've been to 49 out of the 50 states, so eventually I need to get to Hawaii. I don't know!

Working for an airline would be fun. I'm jealous. :o)

It's funny I'm looking for the same thing. I'd love to make new friends, especially ones that love disney. I was supposed to go in Feb 2014 for 10 days around the princess half marathon weekend and do the 5k, but everyone cancelled on me. I was thinking of going November 1-6. I'd catch the last day of the Halloween party on the 1st, hoping they go out with a bang. Plus my favorite band Hanson (yes, I love Hanson with a deep passion and I'm not ashamed, lol) is playing at Epcot on the 4th and 5th. And the food and wine fesvital would be going on around that time. A nice 6 day trip to get my Disney fix.

Anyway, I'm a 28 year old female from upstate New York, single. I was engaged to be married last year but that fell through horribly. Still went on my Disneymoon though. Next time I'll have the disney wedding I always wanted. I've done solo day trips to Disney, but I can't imagine doing a whole real trip alone. Its just more fun with someone else, so I'd love to join you, if you're interested.:thumbsup2

Hi DI!

OMG color me jealous -- I wish I lived so close to Disney!! I hope you go often :-) I hope to make it to DL someday. Sorry to hear about your WDW plans possibly falling through :-( it seems like this is the spot to find some fellow park lovers, and I seem to remember at least one or two previous posters who mentioned that they were making plans for 2014. I seem to be more of a last minute planner, so maybe a vacation in late 2014 is in my future, too! Great to hear you made a bunch of good friends during your trip; I'm hoping for the same! :-) Disney friends are the best!
I would so love to meet up with people at WDW. I've only gone twice :(

YAY FOR HANSON!

I went to Disney for a quick trip with my mom last October so I could see Hanson. :) (Mom went for the wine and food... I went solely for Hanson)

So hi!

Sorry to hear about your engagement...

Hi YoungNY!

Gosh I'm sorry to hear about your engagement :-( Good for you for still going on your special Disney trip! Definitely keep looking forward to your Disney wedding and honeymoon someday!! :-) Very cool that you're interested in running the marathon...about all I'm good for is a quick jog to the snack machine ;-) Do you know if there is any sort of charity associated with the Princess Half Marathon? Sometimes I do make it to the parks around February (early in the year it seems to be less crowded, big plus!). I think a visit in Fall would be awesome! And enjoying Hanson is nothing to feel silly about :-) I find that, as I get older, I really don't feel guilty when I tell people about my musical tastes. I tend to be a rather vague planner and very rarely set down specific dates for a vacation more than a month or two in advance, but when 2014 arrives, if your plans overlap my plans I'd be happy to buddy-up! :-)

Hi Amfie! Wow, sorry to hear that your solo venture has been intruded on :-( I guess I live far enough away from my family that they don't really catch wind of my travel plans until after I've gone and come back. I'd love to get an AP! Have you ever had one before? I'd love to hear if you feel it's worth buying :-) And I always seem to make it to the parks around Spring so 2014 shouldn't be any different :-)

Hi Bluefox-
I just wanted to let you know, if you have the funds and you plan on going to Disney 10 days or more in 12 months it's so worth it. I got my first one a few years ago, I went 4 different times that year and they varied in duration...one week, 8 days, 3 day weekends, once you go for a week or more and you park hop, the rest of your trips are basically free...plus you get discounts on various things so those are always great. I go every spring durning the flower and garden festival and then again in the fall for the food and wine festival...it's a great feeling to know you can just pick up and go and know your ticket is paid for...I do know a lot of people that are not AP holders and they don't see the value in it, but it really depends on how often you plan on being there...hope this helps...
oh and if you want to meet some new Disney friends, come visit the singles soclal club thread, you can totally meet new park buddies, some live in the area and are always up for meeting. there's also a DIS-meet of the group in October if you want to hang with some fun people;)

Cedar Point is very coaster-centric. :) It was a huge family tradition. Still kind of is. We went every year at least once since I was two. I stopped going a few years ago just cause I got tired of it - especially after working there for a summer. :) I'll go back someday. :) My parents still go every year (my mom hates roller coasters but dad loves them)

I have the one friend that I can travel with - our personalities just mesh the best for traveling. We haven't traveled recently together though - unless you count diving across the state to go to IKEA. :) Mostly because now we are both working full-time jobs, and her getting married. But I have a feeling even with both of us trying to convince her husband, we aren't going to win. So next year we will just have to do a girls vacation somewhere maybe! Maybe to Disney!

A girls vacation would definitely be fun. Someday someday someday. Maybe to Vegas or something! Ever been?

My boyfriend did a Disney Cruise with his family (I don't remember when) but around Europe… a Mediterranean cruise… and loved it. I guess he got to stop at so many places. So that would be amazing someday. Not solo though. I'm too chicken to travel to Europe by myself!

Where is the last place you went?

Hi Tabby!

LOL I love the fact that you'd be willing to drive crose-state for IKEA! :-) I guess I'm a bit spoiled since we have one here in Atlanta, and I love it bunches and bunches. I definitely get you on the goodness of having a traveling companion who meshes well with you. I get along with most people and I've had good travel experiences with several friends...my big problem is that no one seems to have the funds/time for trips! :-( I'd definitely love to meet friends who are looking to travel, and if Disney is on their destination list, all the better :-)

Wow, getting to see Europe the Disney way -- sounds awesome!! I agree that a trip to Europe would be best with a companion. A good friend has talked about saving up for a Europe vacation in the next few years so it might be in my future. I'd love to see more Stateside, too. When Cars came out I promised myself a roatrip on Route 66 someday, hehe. No I haven't been to Vegas but would love to go and see some shows and partake in cheap buffets! I honestly haven't been traveling much recently...made it to Chicago and Flagstaff last year, plus several visits to Disney and plenty of trips to my hometown. Where have you visited recently?

Hi NJDiva!

Wow, thanks for all this great info!! :-) I definitely appreciate it! You really helped put the whole AP into perspective in that breakdown...I usually only make it to the parks for about half of that amount of days each year, but that's only because I can't drum up the interest in friends, so if I can meet some new park buddies here I'm sure I could hit 10 days quite easily :-) I'll definitely pop on over to that thread and say hello! Woohoo!

LOL did he stock up on lingonberry jam while at IKEA? :-) I've eaten at their little in-store cafeteria but I think I've stuck mostly with American food, although they have this confectionary treat called a "Princess cake" that I go ga-ga for :hyper: What no driving in IL?! I love Chicago, although I've never driven around the city, either used public transport or have been chauffeured by friends.

Hawaii would be a great honeymoon destination! When it comes down to it, I guess I haven't really thought about where I'd like to go on mine :scratchin
You could do a Lilo and Stitch theme!

I loooove Colorado! Up until recently had fam in Denver, and Mom and me would go out there every year in December and have a "White Christmas". Now they are in Tampa, which makes me kinda sad BUT also I have all the more reason to visit Florida!

Ugh! Sorry to hear your DC trip wasn't all that great :( I went when I was a kid, think it would be fun to go back as an adult (although up for a 7:30am tour? Never!!) Right now I'm kind of in limbo with it being so dang hot everywhere. Come Fall season and I should be much more mobile :) What other countries would you like to visit?

Hope your weekend went well!

We are kind of in the middle of two IKEAs. There is one just north of Chicago and then there is one just outside of Detroit. Normally we go to the Detroit one because the traffic is easier. :) Plus I refuse to drive in Illinois... I'm weird like that. Unfortunately, lately that is the only trip my friend and I can manage to plan together. Time and money. :) Plus the whole she is married now, so it would be kind of awkward for me to go on vacation with them. :D But speaking of her husband, he is actually from Sweden so we had to stock up on food supplies while we were there!

I would love to do a road trip on Route 66 someday! At one point in my life I thought that would be a very cool honeymoon. I doubt I would be ever able to convince the boyfriend of that though - if we ever get married his heart is set on Hawaii. Which works for me seeing how its the only state I haven't been to!

As for recent trips, its starting to feel like I'm either going to Disney or I'm going to Colorado. And I'm to the point where I'm a tad sick of Colorado. :) Boyfriend and I a couple of weeks ago while he was visiting a crazy road trip out to Colorado and back in like 6 or 7 days. I don't recommend it. :D But it was fun! And saw lots of nifty things! Took I-90 out, and then I-80 back.

In January (and also the end of December) I went to Williamsburg, Virginia and Washington, DC solo. I was such a lazy bum on that trip. Usually I like to do a lot, especially when solo. But I barely ever wanted to leave the hotel! I had a 7:30 a.m. scheduled White House tour, the minute that ended I went straight back to my hotel room and slept until noon. I'm so disappointed with myself. Have you ever been? I love it. But the boyfriend wants to go next year, and I desperately want to go to something new. Or at least not Colorado!

Hope your week is going well!!

so I see you made it to the dark side (aka the singles social club) I am sure that you will find new park buddies both male and female that will be more than happy to hang out if you are there at the same time. hope you enjoy planning your next trip. I'm working on mine now, I only have 5 days in the park, two of which are with my bff, so I'm trying to make the best of my short time there...good luck and enjoy!!

just have to give a shout out to IKEA and their swedish meatballs! delicious! i also love how it's so cheap to eat there. Their lingonberry juice is great!
