SOG Waiting list question

We're going in August and I'm on the waiting list at SOG for the Contemporary. I called to ask what number I am on the waiting list since I'm a bit antsy on whether I'll get the room or not. They said that there's really not a set number but I would like to know if there's no set number then how do they know who to call next? I'm also wondering if I should take advantage of the great rates that Disney is offering for Port Orleans (there's 5 of us and I want to get the room with the trundle bed) and make a reservation with them for Port Orleans and that if I do get my SOG reservation then I can just cancel the other. (did I say i was antsy? hahahaha)

the man that I just talked to at SOG said that while they can't guarantee that I'll get the room, he said that it is a really great chance that we'll get the room since August is a slower time for Disney since the Florida kids will be back in school when we go (Aug. 18-25)

HELP!!!!

thanks!!!!

If you are talking about booking an overflow rate from SoG into PO, I don't think you can do that and stay on the waiting list. It has to be one or the other, unless they have changed their procedures.

no, i wouldn't take the overflow rate for PO cuz the Disney rate is cheaper.

The policy is the same, he said I couldn't take the overflow rate AND stay on the waiting list, darn.

I was thinking of making a room only reservation with Disney to get their $94/night special they have at the PO.

thanks for the reply.

To be on the safe side, I would definitely recommend making reservations at PO through Disney. There will be no loss to you, since if you book a room only, you can cancel up to 5 days before your arrival without penalty. Be aware that if you book a package (room + tickets), you have to cancel at least 45 days before arrival to avoid the penalty. After that, you will need to pay a $100 penalty.

I did the same thing in December for my upcoming trip in May. I received notification from SOG at the end of March, notifying me that they would be able to give me a room at the Contemporary. I subsequently cancelled my reservations through Disney and went through the SOG. No problems at all.

In my experience with SOG, when they say there's a "really great chance"....Then I think you can bet you have a <wink, wink>, REALLY great chance. They are not going to go out on a limb, but I know they are usually as honest as they can be about getting your hopes up. If I were you I'd make the other reservation, (thru CRO, fully cancellable), then wait for the SOG call. Last year we were able to get a moderate thru CRO cheaper than the SOG overflow rate.

Thanks for the replies. You all helped ease my antsy-ness!! hahaha

I think i'm going to make the reservation at CRO for the room (we can get the tickets at the SOG office in the Contemporary) and then cancel if needed.

THANKS!!!!!

There is no set number. You could be number one, but if we did not receive a cancellation for the time you're looking for, being number one does you no good.

As for how we decide who to call, we print the month's list. The guests are printed in the order they were placed on the list. Then, we print our room availability. As we go down the list, we tic off the rooms (ex: gst 1 - 4 nights starting Aug 10 = one tic for Aug 10, 11 , 12, 13, gst 2 - 7 nights starting Aug 12 = one tic for Aug 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and so on and so on.

Living here, I don't think I'd call that time frame 'slow'. Northern schools are still out and the people are still here. It won't be as busy as mid summer, but it will still be busy, IMO. :)

HELP!!!!

thanks!!!!
