I noticed that Mission Space has it's soft opening on Friday 15 August. I may be there at that time and would love to experience the ride. I wonder what to expect. Will fastpass be available, or will I end up queueing all day?

I know there's a chance the opening will be delayed, but does it ever happen that you can ride a day or so before the soft opening?

Any strategy tips for getting on this ride ?

I've never been at Disney for the Soft Opening of a ride, but I too will be there in August, and hope to get on this ride as well. As is always the case with Disney, the date is subject to change, so I'm going with the attitude that the date probably will change so me (or more importantly my space/thrill ride fanatic niece and nephew) won't be disappointed if the soft opening doesn't happen as scheduled on August 15th.

If it does open, we are planning on getting to Epcot early one morning of our trip, grabbing some fasts passes for Test Track, and then heading over to Mission Space. I'm sure that the lines are going to be long, so we plan to go there first thing in the morning so that we can get on it without too big of a line. I heard that they will have a single rider line for this ride, but that won't be an option for us (at least not the first time on the ride) as my sister is a bit nervous about sending her 10 and 12 year old on thrill rides by themselves (that's why Auntie Karen is travelling with them--so she can ride on the thrill rides that their mom and dad don't want to ride).

What exactly is a soft opening? I know that it's like an unofficial pre-opening to a new attraction but what is its purpose?

BTW - 123Joanna123, your user name looks so familiar to me. You don't happen to have other hobbies other then WDW do you? Craft for example?

"soft opening" will me that the ride may be open or may not. It's like a testing phase.

When Test Track opened it was also open for short periods of time, several hours.

I've never experienced a "soft opening". I'd like to know about them too :)
