SoCal weather!

Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread! I have been following closely wondering what to pack and how we're going to stay dry! I don't think I've ever been so hesistant to go to So. Cal. We are heading down there today until Monday, and crossing our fingers our flight isn't delayed or cancelled!

, Oh, dparksfan, I hope your flights are not delayed at all.

Pack warm clothes, fleeces, sweatshirts, jeans, sneakers. I do not think you will be wearing shorts or flipflops at all.

But I am telling you Sat-Sun-Mon look sunny. The daytime temps will only be mid-60's and the nighttime temps will be hi-40's in Anaheim. So if you love staying late at the parks, keep those temps in mind.

Also, I would throw in a rain slicker just in case.

Thank you, Jack! I made it through - I heard pounding (through my ear plugs) which I assume was hail. As a PP said, it was interesting, because it would rain and gust wind and be really scary and severe for a while, and then suddenly it would get really quiet and calm down. Then out of nowehere, it would start raging again. We actually did not get the worst of the storms right in my area of L.A. The storm cells that were really, really, really bad skipped around us and hit other areas, so those areas are trying to deal with flooding and damage (another little tornado) this morning.

Sherry, we had some crazy weather in Phoenix last night too! There was a tornado warning near the shopping center across the street from my house, I couldn't believe it! Of course our newscasters were having a hey-day breaking into all the shows with emergency weather warnings telling us to get in our bathtubs! I have a nice big window above our bathtub made out of those big glass blocks...uh...no thanks!

I forgot where you are in SoCal? I mean not exactly where you are, obviously, but in general! It is weird how the storm cells kind of skip certain areas and devastate other areas. I can't imagine what the areas that got the "worst" of it had to deal with!

Every now and then, once every several years, it gets cold and rainy enough to create a little snow in Malibu!! I have never been there to see it, but it has happened once or twice in the last decade. Now Malibu is one of the last places you would expect snow, so that must be really interesting to see it juxtaposed with all the sand and surf!

I would like, just once, for it to be cold enough where I am in L.A. to get just a little smidge of snow! But the temperatures have never dropped quite enough to make that happen in my entire life!

I'm about an hour east of DLR sort of in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains (aka Big Bear). Or you could say I'm about halfway between LA and Palm Springs.

I know what you mean about just wanting to get a tiny bit of snow. I lived up in Santa Rosa (northern california) for 20 years and every once in awhile we would get just a tiny bit of snow but it wouldn't stick! I would always hope for the snow to stick just once. Well, a year or two after I move down here, it snowed up in SR and it was sticking! So frustrating.

Oh, yes, those newscasters are having great fun with all of this, scaring all of us with their ominous warnings, decked out in the Gorton's Fisherman gear! I am glad to see that they are no better in Arizona! (Storm Watch! Storm Track! Everyone bop your head to the urgent music!!) I hate when I am watching something and they keep breaking in with news that could have waited until the show was over!

Yes, in your case you would not want to get in that bathtub - that would probably be the worst place for you to go in a tornado!!

They just said on the news that we have already received more rain in January of 2010 than we did in the entire years of 2008 and 2009 (don't know if that means 2008 and 2009 individually or put together, but either way....Yikes!)! And El Nino weather can last through April or May (not to say that it WILL do that, but it can). I don't think we have seen the last of the nasty weather, unfortunately. We may be in a break for a couple of days at least, but we still have alllll of February and allll of March, which both have the potential for some bad storms. In the past, I recall some particularly bad storms in March during an El Nino year (that was when I was trying to walk through the supermarket parking lot when the rushing flood waters were too much to deal with!). This time the ugly weather got an early start but I don't think we are out of the woods!

Glad you guys made it last night! We are sitting with 3 1/2 feet of snow on the ground and expecting another 11-21 inches before it is all over tomorrow. The roof of my favorite fabric shop collapsed. The weather service is saying that this storm will go down as one of the top 3 snow producers for us. Before the snow started Wednesday night, we were 8 inches ahead of normal for snow, so this will probably help our drought; since, the snow will sit on the mountain and melt in the spring. Hopefully, El Nino's wrath will finish up next week. I hope that this is not what we (all of us) have to look forward to all winter. Can you guys imagine what SoCal has had happening all winter? Hopefully, this is all. Have a great lull in the storm until the next one on Monday!

Sherry E said that they are supposed to get more on Monday. We have a chance of snow on Tuesday. I don't know what you are supposed to get, yet. I usually use a combination of sites: DIS, Weather Channel, My-Cast weather, and channel 12. DH uses NOAA.gov.

Sherry E, I sure HOPE that this doesn't continue until March or April! Even if I had bought a snow blower, it wouldn't have kept up with this snow! Besides, SoCal needs to dry out before you get anything else. I have to go out now. My kids are going stir crazy, so I am going to bury them in the snow. All it will take is sending them off the back deck!

Whoa! I just jumped out of my chair. I saw a flash of lightning and assumed it would take a few seconds for the thunder to kick in. WRONG! The very very loud thunder happened immediately after the lightning, like half a second after - so I guess means it is close by to me. And now it is pouring buckets and buckets again, slamming against the window! It is getting heavier by the minute.

Yep, there was a little bit of hail here earlier today too.

Okay, the rain seems to be tapering off. It has been quietly raining (as opposed to the torrential pouring we have seen in the last couple of days) for a while now, and it seems to be losing steam. It is still very cold, gloomy and damp outside, but unless we have anymore sudden freak mega-storms out of nowhere, then I think we may finally be on the road to clearing for the weekend. And then let's hope that next week's rain that rolls in on late Monday or Tuesday won't be as bad as this.

OK, today it is bright and sunny!!! I am closer to the beach so it is only 53 degrees here now at 9am. I am sure it is a bit warmer inland in Anaheim. Sooo, for now the rain has GONE!

Wowwwwww....as much I don't want to share the 1.5 lane road w/ others, that sure is a pretty sight! And in AZ no less!! Saw pics on AZFamily that were impressive as well. Maybe we can get up to the snow next weekend...we'll be in DL the following week!

The clouds in the valley are crazy low - it's almost ominous except the sun is shining!
