SoCal weather!

We just had some brutal thunder and lightening. The wind is so intense and now the News has cut into my show with a TORNADO WARNING for Orange and San Diego Counties. :scared1:

It is POURING rain. Windy, dark and cold. :sad2:

The National weather service has issuedd a tornado warning for the following counties: Orange, CA at 1:28pm.

It then discussed tornado safety and included, "The safest place to be in a tornado is in the basement."

Ummm.... So. Cal. houses don't have basements.

Tornado?!?! :scared1:

Yes, we hear a tornado touched down near PCH in Seal Beach. DW called to say our balcony was flooding so I drove home in flooding conditions. The weather has gone east and now the sun is coming out - go figure. This is when Jose in the Tiki Room says something about a silver lining, right? :wizard:

I drove home this afternoon as well, DLGF left our upstairs sliding glass door open to the balcony. Driving on the 55 to my place was crazy, and the surface streets were flooding. Of course by the time i got there too, the sun was coming out. Our carport was flooded though. Of course the carport doesn't even compare to the flooding Long Beach has.

OMG it was raining soooooo hard! I heard a sound in the other room that I swore was a window breaking. Thankfully it was just the rain pelting the window SO strongly.

A friend who lives near Disneyland and was just driving home from picking up his kids said there was water half way up his car doors! WHOA!

Stay safe everyone.

Advice from someone who has lived through many a tornado - born and raised in Kansas. If no basement go to a small interior room that has no windows - usually a hall closet or bathroom. Take a blanket and cover your head in case of flying glass or debris.

And where do you go when you live in a second story apartment...in a two story building (i.e. our ceiling is the roof...nothing above us)??? I am freaking out...not so much right now as the Tornado warning has expired, but what if? Our bathrooms and laundry room are "interior" as in no windows, but if the roof blows off, then what?

I am being totally serious here...:scared1:

Yikes, you guys all be super careful!!!! How scary!

That is EXACTLY what I did....this was soooooooo freakin' scary. I am on the TOP floor and NO basement. The trees were actually bending in half....I was soooo scared. I shut off the computer and tv and just stayed in our huge walk-in closet until the coast was clear. I thought either my windows or living room slider was going to come crashing in. The rain was pouring down so heavy and so fast. It was 50 mph winds. Our tv was updating me constantly with the Tornado Warning. :headache:

Now things have calmed down greatly. :goodvibes

:hug::hug::hug:

My DS works in Irvine and he just happened to park his $$$ car in a different spot then usual.....thank goodness as the fence abutting his usual spot RIPPED completely off destroying everything around it. :headache:

Mods, am I allowed to post a link to photos posted on ABC's web site? Never sure about outside links. Let me know. Thanks.

OMG - DH started telling me about MSN & people kayaking the streets on the Newport peninsula...boats being lifted from the water at HUntington beach...93 MPH ...we vacation at those places! I'm so dumbfounded by this!!!! I came straight here to see what residents were saying!

WTH man......I. Am. Shocked.

Please be safe & find a windowless room to be safe in!!!!

We are on our way to DL right now. It was commong down pretty good here in the central valley. But now it's sun and clear.

Wish me luck. We are staying at the PPH tonight and tomorrow and coming home Thursday. :)

Re Rancho Santa Margarita, it's not in the burn/landside area. That being said, I've lived in SoCal all my life, and there was some serious water on the streets today. I HAD to go pick up DD just as they posted the tornado watch, fortunately her school was close and I decided not to take her to physical therapy...too much rain. Getting home was a horrid, and it's about a 5 minute trip when the weather is nice. Right now, the sun is out and the patio is drying.
We are getting more rain in the next few days--hoping it ends by Saturday.

Wow, some crazy weather! Looks like it's making it's way here to Vegas. We've had steady rain for the last 2 hours and it's showing no signs of slowing down, which is pretty unusual for us.

We've had some off & on in AZ but it's here to stay for a bit I think, it's been going pretty solid w/ the same lack of signs as you! I love desert rain, the smells of mesquite....but my nervousness about the CA trip is taking the joy away!!

Wow! And we thought our day of non-stop rain on Dec. 30 was challenging. Guess we're lucky it wasn't any worse than it was. To all who are going in spite of the weather, do take ponchos and be safe!

... and tomorrow is supposed to have another storm.

It's been bad out there. Here's hoping tomorrow isn't as bad as today.

Hope everyone is doing okay,
Dreams

Those of you who are locals--what are the weather people saying about AFTER this week (Friday the 22nd into Wednesday the 27th?)

Everytime I check accuweather and weather.com it changes :rotfl2:

Hey ChrisMouse!

I live in SD but from what I have been watching, its supposed to stop raining cats and dogs in SoCal by Saturday. I think the last storm is supposed to come through on Friday and break up by Saturday so I think you should be fairly good. Don't quote me on this as you mentioned, it keeps changing, but I'm pretty sure this is when the last storm is supposed to roll through. Hope you have a great time! :cool1:
