Norwegian Cruise Line dining room dress code enforcement.

I've also only been on one NCL cruise but it was my experience as well that it was a lengthly wait to get into anything other than the main dinning room at peak meal times. I wouldn't say that any of the food on NCL (even at the specialty restaurants) was worth waiting for, but we picked NCL specifically for the itinerary so we just considered it as fuel.

You need reservations for the specialty dining venues, NCL usually offers some free dining offers which keep the specialty restaurants busy.

On DCL you either have to eat extremely early or extremely late. It's been an issue discussed at nauseam on this boards. An alternative would be nice. I would be Okay showing up at 7pm grabbing a drink and waiting until 730 to be seated. I would imagine 630-730 would be prime time on any cruise line offering my time dining.

I don't mind any of the cruise lines dining options. Disney, Royal, Carnival they all have their positives and negatives. Im flexible, I do my research and now what to expect. I agree with you options are nice. I would suggest anybody that wants opinions on NCL freestyle dining to go to reddit or cruise critic where you get a larger sampling of opinions then a Disney forum. Most of the posters on here are just looking for validation for choosing Disney.

La Cucina was never listed as a no-shorts venue. It was the Haven restaurant, Cagney's, and Le Bistro specifically. La Cucina has always been more casual.

The dress code on the app says "You'll see go to shorts with a collared shirt" for Cagney's and LaCucina. Apparently the new code is already off the table or shorts were allowed in Cagney's previously.

Yes, we had reservations at a couple of the specialty restaurants. I was referring to the meal times when we were "free-styling" it. I think there were 3 non-specialty options and while we could get a table in the main dining room without too much of a wait at peak times, there was always a lengthy wait at the other two venues.

I don't think there's much change in the dress code policy? Maybe they just clarified because it doesn't sound that different from when we normally cruise with them and we've cruised with them a bunch. Doing their new ship Luna soon!

It's interesting that NCL's dress code has gained so much interest on Disney cruise line forum. I see very little interest on the NCL forums...

My biggest concern with NCL is wether they are going to change the itinerary after the PIF date....not that I can't wear a bathing suit to dinner.

Guests can now wear shorts (as long as they aren’t short shorts) and any style footwear in the main dining room and all specialty restaurants. However, the cruise line did ask guests for their attire be suited to the setting.
The changes don’t mean that guests can wear whatever they’d like. Swimwear, graphic t-shirts, and clothing with offensive language will not be permitted in the main dining room or specialty restaurants.

I saw a NCL commercial today with a person asking can I wear my flip flops and they respond of course! Walking it back.

NCL was exhausting for us. Crowds and waits and no reservations for anything we wanted. Kids club “closed.” Kids activities on top deck “closed.” We ended up just eating in the buffet and sitting on deck chairs.
