:headache: Oh my, I feel so badly for all that are going to DL this week. I feel badly for those that have planned and planned and are now faced with this really horrific pouring rain. It is windy and cold. AND the weather forecast states it will be this way until NEXT Sunday. The are saying they have not seen this much rain in 5 years in SoCal. :headache:

I have lived here just under two years and can honestly say I have never seen it rain more than 2 days in a row. :headache:

I do realize this is our winter and there can be some ify days but it has jsut been such a great winter so far....all this rain is just shocking, to say the least.

January/February is our rainy season, and this is kind of normal to me... probably because I've been here my whole life.

I remember a DIS Meet weekend where we were totally soaked. The rain didn't stop us, but by the time we went home we were totally drenched each day.

Jungle Cruise in the rain .. Splash Mountain in the rain (and in a log so heavy with the 7 of us in it that water sloshed over the sides) good times. Lol

But, I know where you are coming from. There are people who come out at this time trying to get away from the crowds, and then they have refurbishments going on, and inclement weather to deal with.

Has it been almost 2 years now? I remember when you first moved out here. :)

You are so right, MJ, allot of the rides are wet to begin with and those going to DL should still try to have a FAB time. :mickeyjum

I know some people like it when it rains as the crowds are less. :thumbsup2

Well, it will actually be 2 years in July. Sooo, 18 months now. :cool1: And now we are moving from Newport Beach to San Deigo!! WooHooty, a job offer my DH could not refuse!! But we will still keep the SoCal AP's and make treks up to THE LAND!!! :dance3:

Well, I would be one of those you can feel sorry for. We are flying in on Thursday, and this is our very first trip ever to DL. The main focus of our trip is to see our son, but we do have two days planned in the Parks. I am bummed about this, and am now worrying, probably unecessarily, about mud slides, etc., and these probably don't even happen in that area, and I am really showing my ignorance. :rotfl2:

You don't need to worry about mudslides REWthereyet, those happen in the hills not at DLR. :) But stay dry and enjoy the NO crowds that rain at DLR encourages. :) And remember it's an Ill Nino year and it will be wet and rainy. :)

We will also be spending time over in Rancho Santa Margarita area, do I need to worry about that? :lmao:

Yep, we are leaving on Thurs night spending one last 3 day weekend before our AP's exprire and are totally worried about the rain. We have 2 young children and so it's not all that fun if we're all soaked and our stroller too! We have until Tues at 5 to cancel our resos and postpone a week or two. Not sure what to do?! We are going with another family and if we postpone we proabably wouldn't end up getting to go together. Every time I check the weather it shows something different so just can't make up my mind!

We were there in December from the 9-12th....3 out of our 4 days it was raining. It was REALLY raining two of the days. Cons...big hassle especially with little ones...some rides closes

PROS!!! Lines are SHORT!! Most of the locals stay home....TSMM was 5 mins long!! All the roller coasters were walk on...POTC walk on...

Bring rainboots, raincoats, rain slicker...buy a few from the dollar store. There are disney ones, but I didn't think they are worth it. Although if they break or tear, the disney stores will replace for free. Also bring a baseball hat. I got this tip here, if you wear the bb hat under your slicker, it keeps slicker on your head better and keeps the rain off your face.

Also, when you get back to your hotel, get a hot cocoa and enjoy the fire while you dry out...if your hotel doesn't have one...some of the dlr hotels have them that you can enjoy!

I keep checking accuweather and it keeps getting worse! Oh well, I think we'll brave it with our 3 kids. Stupid, maybe, but maybe it will give us some stories to tell in years to come.

I'm sorry, I have no idea, I've never been to Rancho Santa Margarita. :goodvibes

We went last Feb for President's Day, it was so wet that trip. But it did give us fun stories and good memories that we still talk about, so you're right, you'll have some good stories to tell. :)

We are leaving tomorrow for DL. Its just the 2 of us. I'm worried about driving the grapevine. Other then that I'm excited to see DL in the rain. We go every 6 weeks or so. So I won't mid if we don't get to ride that many rides.

Is anyone there today? I live about 6 hours north in central Ca and we had lots of rain but its sunny right now. So lets hope for the best!
I will post updates when I get there tomorrow night.

Interesting enough but the sun came out at 4pm. I ran out and did all my grocery shopping for the week. :thumbsup2
But it is been almost an hour of sun right now after reports and reports of pouring windy rain. :sunny:

I do not know what to say to those headed to DL....it may rain, it may pour and then again the sun may make an appearance.

I live in the Central Valley too! In modesto about as Central as you can get LOL!

DD and I just just got home from our rainy day adventure at DL and..... it was great!!!!

We went in prepared for the rain and had a fantastic time. Plus - there were no crowds.:love: We could walk in peace and not cramped together. We walked on all rides we wanted to and even went on some twice.

Now we do have APs and can go as often as we like so that may color our judgement. I hope those that are going there this week for there one and only time can get past the compications of the rain and enjoy its benefits - the big one being no crowds.

Those of you who are locals--what are the weather people saying about AFTER this week (Friday the 22nd into Wednesday the 27th?)

Everytime I check accuweather and weather.com it changes :rotfl2:

We're supposed to be driving down from the SF Bay Area on Friday. We have 2 small kids (5 and 2) and I'm thinking of canceling just because it sounds kind of miserable to be driving down there and dealing with the cold and rain with the kids. We have reservations at the Grand Californian and I am pretty sure we are past our cancellation date though :( Anyone know what the penalty is for canceling less than 5 days before is?

It was POURING today. On my way to a meeting today on the freeway the roads had lots of water, my wipers were working double time, and there was a major accident.

So much rain that I locked my pup in the bathroom for an hour until DH got home instead of putting him outside. It was just too much downpour.

Around 4pm, the rain stopped, the clouds blew out really fast, and it was a gorgeous (but chilly) evening.

We are supposed to see more rain, but for the moment, it's quiet outside.

Just posted this on another thread, but it's more applicable here.

I work for an oceanographic research organization. Several of our scientists work on understanding and predicting El Nino. We got an alert this past weekend from some of our collaborative scientists. It's too long to post in full, but here's some excerpts:

...a truly prodigious amount of snowfall is likely to occur in the mountains, possibly measured in the tens of feet in the Sierra after it's all said and done.

...Between this Sunday and the following Sunday, I expect categorical statewide rainfall totals in excess of 3-4 inches. That is likely to be a huge underestimate for most areas. Much of NorCal is likely to see 5-10 inches in the lowlands, with 10-20 inches in orographically-favored areas. Most of SoCal will see 3-6 inches at lower elevations, with perhaps triple that amount in favored areas.

...The models are virtually unanimous in "reloading" the powerful jet stream and forming an additional persistent kink 2000-3000 miles to our southwest after next Sunday. This is a truly ominous pattern, because it implies the potential for a strong Pineapple-type connection to develop. Indeed, the 12z GFS now shows copious warm rains falling between days 12 and 16 across the entire state.

...Normally, such as scenario out beyond day seven would be dubious at best. Since the models are in such truly remarkable agreement, however, and because of the extremely high potential impact of such an event, it's worth mentioning now. Since there will be a massive volume of freshly-fallen snow (even at relatively low elevations between 3000-5000 feet), even a moderately warm storm event would cause very serious flooding. This situation will have to monitored closely. Even if the tropical connection does not develop, expected rains in the coming 7-10 days will likely be sufficient to cause flooding in and of themselves (even in spite of dry antecedent conditions).

..In short, the next 2-3 weeks (at least) are likely to be more active across California than any other 2-3 week period in recent memory. The potential exists for a dangerous flood scenario to arise at some point during this interval, especially with the possibility of a heavy rain-on-snow event during late week 2. In some parts of Southern California, a whole season's worth of rain could fall over the course of 5-10 days. This is likely to be a rather memorable event. Stay tuned.

(Bold emphasis was mine. Get out your ponchos and galoshes).
