Soarin' SB+ test...Fail

If you read Disney's financials and listen to analyst calls and investor presentations, the information is all there. But all of that takes time...you have to be at the right place at the right time, paying attention to what's being said. You could go back and pull pieces out from the last 5 years or so to see what the original budget appeared to be, and what has been spent to-date. It's not all laid out in an easy to digest format...Disney is never going to spoon feed bad news...but it's all there if you take the time to actually analyze what is said (and has been said) vs. trying to defend the person whose Kool-Aid you're drinking.

But this would require Pluto to work for his answers or his evidence to support the his claim that all is right in the world.
Please Pluto, show your proof that FP+ is on budget.

Not sure if this has been mentioned on here yet, but on another thread, someone noticed that the FP screens have recently been changed ... When there are no more FPs, it now says "FP Distribution Has Ended for Selected Day" instead of being shaded out

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3310418

I seem to remember before if the FPs were all gone, in addition to being shaded out, it would say Standby Available. Or maybe I am imagining that? Does anyone remember that?

Anyway, it's interesting that the screens changed this week and if it is related to these tests.

yes, I remember that - you are not alone!!

Part of me is glad we're not going down in September but it is a small part (the bigger part of me wants to go right now!). I hope it is all sorted out by our trip in January - if not we'll figure it out.....in large part thanks to all you Disers who keep me up to date / informed!

I think it's a coincidence, honestly. I think that "Standby Available" was confusing for people, and being more frank about the situation (i.e., all the FP+s for the day are gone) is hopefully going to lead to less confusion.

I actually like the new setup better than the old one, though if it's just a new overlay and the underlying system is as glitchy as ever, who cares? I was in checking on things the other day after the switch was made and everything had *poofed* from the system (again). I just shook my head and closed out. I'm not stressing over MDE and it's stupid glitches, especially when everything tends to show back up a few hours or days later anyway.

Am I the only the person that would rather see admission to the parks reduced by 20% and ticket prices increased to make up for the difference (my math may be off, but something like that)? Disney's basic issue is that they are letting more people thru the front gate than their attractions can support. All the gimics in the world still leave us with guest demands exceeding capacity.

That is the true problem isn't it? Demand exceeding supply.

I'm not sure if ticket prices could be increased all that much though. There has to a limit to what the market will or can pay too.

46 pages of replies in two days. Do you think Disney execs get that there is a huge backlash? I am pretty sure that there have to be people at TWDC that monitor the various fan sites.

Is anyone sending emails to George Kalogridis, Jim MacPhee, Phil Holmes, Tom Skaggs and Meg Crofton? Calling Bob Iger's office?

Long time WDW fan here (like many of you), just finished reading this thread and the changes that are taking place continue to amaze me. As FP+/MDE started up we sat there reading the information and posts and were very glad we did not have any trips currently scheduled. We rented out this year's DVC points. I figured things would calm down and we would look for a big tip in 2016 or 17.

IMHO what is being missed here is WDW is supposed to be a vacation. I am supposed to go and feel no stress. I can remember going to WDW Sept of 2012. The only stressful part of the trip was getting to the airport. After that we were sucked into the Disney Magic. We made ADRs in the morning or afternoon based on where we wanted to eat that night. We rode attractions based on what we wanted to do at that point. Vacation is not supposed to be stressful......Our friends went to WDW recently and spent weeks before hand changing FP+ trying to figure out what days they would do what parks. Why can't I go on vacation, wake up and say let's go to MK today and have a pleasant experience. Why is it we can no longer wait in lines? Why take the choice away from the consumer?

I cannot imagine what my response would have been if I had walked up to Soarin knowing there would be a wait and told I am not allowed to wait in line. Really? I just paid 100.00 to get in and I do not have a choice on how to spend my time?

The focus on virtual queue, ADR, FP+, SB+(really!!??), MDE and any other acronym I have forgotten is taking the focus away from the MAGIC which is what always made WDW different and special.

I will go back to my normal once every 2 years posting now.

Communicating with Disney seems pointless sometimes. I recently sent a letter asking about the Norway situation and I got the form letter back and then a letter that stated that no plans had been announced yet which to me simply means that they don't wish to discuss it. Oh well, at least I felt better once I said my piece. :)

I noticed the change yesterday, but didn't pick up on the Standby Available missing. That isn't a good change...

I thought of that too. (Headline: Soarin' now in a Level 3 closure!) ;)

It also occurs to me that if Standby re-opening is an unknown factor, then it is similar to when we encounter a ride that is down due to mechanical issues or weather issues, etc. Will it re-open at all? If so, when will it re-open? Should we give up, or should we stick around and wait it out? What to do, what to do?

Pondering these decisions always makes for spoaneity and magic, doesn't it? ;)

I think it might be a bit less magical, however, if (a) we observe people pouring into the FP+ lane while the ride is "down" and (2) we can't shrug it off as acts of nature or other events beyond Disney's control.

The day we had a FP+ for the 7DMT, it closed down 3 times before we could ride it. We kept going back and checking. Eventually it was opened when we arrived at the FP+ entrance. But yeah, same feeling.

LOL, that might be a good spectator sport. :lmao:

:thumbsup2

Yes, they did used to say "standby available".

Maybe because it's fuzzy.

Back to the original topic... SB+ works great in theory... for the people who GET a SB+ ticket. Because, let's face it. For those people, this is just like legacy FP and that WORKED. The problem is that when the SB+ tickets are gone for the day, the legacy FP analogy no longer holds. When legacy FP ran out, you still had the option of waiting an hour or two to ride if it was that important to you. When SB+ tickets are gone, you are simply told you can't ride. I'm sure someone will dispute this by citing "first-hand reports" of the line re-opening. But there's no way to guarantee that will occur or know when it will occur. So, unless they just happened to check back after being told the ride was full for the rest of the day, those who were turned away, would still not get to ride. To add insult to injury, how will those people feel when they find out on the bus ride back to the resort that the line re-opened and they COULD have ridden, despite what they were told by the CM? Poor form.

This also eliminates one of the key rallying points that all the pro FP+ proponets touted of not having to run to the ride to grab a FP then come back later. Now you have to keep running back to the ride to see if you can stand in a line and possibly a long line to ride.

I could not agree with you more. I have been to Disney in slow and high seasons in the past and never had any troubles. We went with a plan and without a plan and still had a good time.

I can't even fathom trying to work with all the changes now. It certainly does not sound like fun to me to have to log into a gltichy system and make my ride reservations and then go back in a switch each to the ones I actually want. Then I want to ride stand by on something and be told I can't? (Or be given a Fastpass card!)

I was never a power fastpass user. Last time I went we really didn't need them but got I think three at MK. They worked great! Why tweak something that was working?

I do like the Magicbands though. That was a good idea.

Evidence has shown that he will go away if ignored. It's been true in all his previous forms.
