Hi, I heard something a while back when Soarin' first came to EPCOT that if it is successful and stays they may change the movie from California to Florida scenery. Has anyone heard anything about this? What do you think about this? I love the scenes in this current ride, but it isn't Soarin' over California at WDW, it's just Soarin', I think it would make sense to change it, but I wouldn't mind either way...I think a nice WDW fly over would be nice but whatever. Thanks.

I think they will change it after YOAMD or during the next Celebration. They even might do a East coast and not just Florida.

Riding through the everglades over an Airboat ,CherryBlossoms in DC ,Marthas Vineyards. The list could go on and on

Don't get me wrong, I love living in FL and between biking, camping, scuba diving thoughout the State, I know there are hours of interesting material to film. However, someone commented in an old thread that because FL is devoid of mountains, it would be boring and would not work. I guess this is partly true in that you definitely do NOT see unpowered hang gliders floating around these parts, so the basic theme would have to be "tweeked". Not sure how successful you could be to change it to make sense in flat FL.

While there's been rumors of Soarin' changing for some time, I dont think any of the substantial rumors have anything to do with "Soarin' over Florida".

I've heard much more about either Soarin' over America or Soarin' over the world.

I dont think we'll see this concept end at just California.

Soarin' around the World would make more sense given the World Showcase theme of the other half of the park.IMHO

This is the upshot of that thread from a few months ago.

Of course, the more fundamental issue is that nobody is going to pay for this, so Disney isn't going to change it.

That's how I feel. Not enough elevation variation in FL to make it interesting. That's part of the fun of Soarin' is the dips and rises from going over the hill and mountain scenes. Floating stationary with only small tilts and banks wouldn't be as fun.

They could make a new ride - Bikin' - and you could sit on individual stationary bikes and pedal while the screen takes you on a bike tour of Florida, haha.

I'd rather see a Soarin' the World or Soarin' the USA.

They could always "tweak" the ride mechanics and use it for a Greece pavillion ride - you could be Nike on a mission to deliver messages to the gods on Mt. Olympus, etc.

You know, they have these at a gym near my house (not Florida, but a scenic bike ride). After trying them, I thought "man, I don't need a gym membership for this." I bought a stationary bike and watched tv at home.

About soarin, though- I think a film with more exotic destinations would be great. I was really disappointed in the movie aspect after all the hype. Dh and I agreed that it wasn't worth the wait and we won't bother next time.

They used to have those at the Wonders of Life Pavilion. You pedaled and the screen would show you bicycling through Disneyland.

I don't agree with this statement. Example, just about every two years they "change" Tower of Terror (we are currently on ToT4). It mostly generates new interest, and I can see them changing Soarin' after a few years just to restimulate it again. And, I have heard/read that they were filming above WDW in the past year for the alleged update.

Changing ToT takes close to zero money. Shooting a new Imax film takes a n amount of money substantially different from 0. The 2 don't compare.

Universal Studios kinda already has it... The ET ride. Still haven't gotten over being stuck on a bicycle in mid air for over an hour when it broke down.

I would have to agree, Soarin Over Florida would not entice me to ride it again and again. One of the things I think the imagineers have to take into account is believability, and a wind powered glider is just not believable IMO. There are so many places in the world that would be neat, like the rockies, or the Grand Canyon, or British Columbia, or New England, or __________ (fill in the blank)

Gotta have mountains somewhere. Of course they could save money doing Florida, since they would not need to tilt the gliders so much. No updraft means not much climbing. ;)

How many times have they changed the one in DCA to restimulate it?

Gotta love the New England plug...WAY TO GO :lmao: !!! How about some nice shots of gliding over Fenway and end with the spectacular fireworks of opening night at Gillette during the banner raising ceremony :rotfl: !!!

But ya, I like the "Soarin' over the USA" idea, however, they would need to make the ride longer and if they do that, they may need to bulid another theater to shorten the lines. They could hit the major cities/sites around the country. Start in SF/LA/Disneyland and go over the Grand Canyon, over the Rockies, Chicago, Niagra Falls, NYC, Boston, and work down the coast and end at WDW. I think that they would be able to do it if they lengthen it by a bit and make it a little more exciting...ie...a little more movement. I'm not talking about making sharp turns/drops, but just a little more movement here and there. Thats just my idea. I think that around the world would be too much because there are too many sites that are good, Paris/London/Rome/Great wall of China/ Sydney/ plus the US, among others. I don't know...just my opinion.

you know whats a crazy idea...the Soarin' building at Epcot is really close to the Canada pavilion, they could theoretically build a separate enclosed pathway and make one of the theaters a Soarin' over Canada

Maybe they realized that just adding a new movie at Soarin' in DCA still won't give them the attendance they need and they're focusing elsewhere.

That actually could work considering that World Showcase needs less movies about the history of places that no-body cares about while in Disney, and put more attractions. However, this would probablly result in lines streatching from Canada to Norway...and who would want to wait in a line that long?:lmao:!! But ya...that probablly wouldn't happen...but you never know!!
