So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight!! Who's with me?

I just totally don't have a favorite couple this year at all...last year they were so much stronger!

I was fine with any of the 6 going home last night.

DH and I were wondering if Wade might do an MJ tribute next week...I would LOVE to see Wade dance it with the dancers--it's been too long since I've seen HIM dance.

I would love to see Wade in a tribute to Michael Jackson!!! My daughter has taken a few classes with Wade Robson, and I got to sit in the back of the room and watch Wade dance. All I can say is- WOW!!:thumbsup2

As I type this, my daughter and two of her dance friends are in line at the auditions for season six. She just sent me a text saying that they all got their picture taken with Cat Deely.:)

As far as this season, I think Kayla is terrific. She has a good personality and has a lot of stage presence. Overall, it isn't shaping up to be one of the better seasons, IMO anyway.

I have a few favorites this season (Evan and Randi, Brandon and Jeanette, Vitolio, Jason), but the talent isn't really there this year. Either is the charisma, really... I miss Benji and Donyelle, Travis and Heidi, Neil, Pasha, Lacey, Lauren and Kameron, Katie and Joshua... they were all so much fun to watch and whether they were brilliant dancers or not, they drew you in. Except for Evan and Randi, no one this season really draws me in. There are some good dancers, but nothing special.

Does anyone else think they're saving all the great dancers for the fall? I find it hard to believe that they cut Natalie for Carla, Asuka... or really any of the girls this season. And they cut Ryan for Jonathan and Kupono? Come on now. I'd be willing to bet they'll both be on the next season, as well as all the other incredible talent they held back from this season for the fall. It'll be tough for them to pull big ratings because they'll be coming right out of a show (non-diehards may be sick of it by then) and they'll be up against The Office, 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, Lost... they need all the GREAT talent to bring in the viewers! I just find it hard to believe that some of these people were the best they could find.

I'm pulling for Evan or Brandon to win, they're the two I look forward to seeing every week!

ITA!! I think that's exactly what's happening...I wonder if Evan's brother is actually a better dancer. I thought they were pretty close...and maybe they are just working up the buzz of a guy who really works for it and learns to stop wearing hats! lol

(Lost doesn't start in the fall--so that's one show they don't have to worry about)

Top 14 recap.

I need help remembering!

Brandon and Janette - Cha Cha Cha? Yeah I liked them but way to back peddle Mia. Really could you say enough positive things about how you see 'potential' in Brandon so that is why you push him so hard??? Whatever.

Kupono and Kayla - she has really grown on me. He is still to feminine for me. I do like him much better with her though.

Randi and Evan - like it. Didn't LOVE but really enjoyed

Melissa and Ade - beautiful and boring. Sorry ballet fans. That was a set up if I ever saw one.

Caitlin and Jason - bFree strikes again. SUCKED. The choreography was horrid, the concept was stupid and the costumes were awful. Now none of that was Caitlin and Jason's fault but they will pay for it.

Phillip and Jeannine - awesome. I'm loving Tabitha and Napoleon this season. Lucky draw.

Vitolio and Karla - I liked it. The quickstep IS the kiss of death but they did well.

I'm having a hard time picking between Vitolio and Jason or Caitlin and Karla to go. Over all I think Caitlin is stronger than Karla and Vitolio is stronger than Jason. So I'm going with Karla and Jason this week and then Caitlin and Vitolio next week!

Bottom 3
Caitlin and Jason
Karla and Vitolio
Melissa and Ade (even though they really don't deserve it)

I'm going with Phillip and Jeannine for my top dance of the night. Brandon and Janette at #2.

Overall I was a bit underwhelmed this week. Fact, I'm underwhelmed this entire season.

I just want to know what the heck was up with Mia's face? She looked scary!

I agree with all of above. I was very impressed with the quick step. That is one hard dance and they looked really good doing it. They deserve to stay.

I really didn't like the classical ballet and I enjoy that style. The real ballerina's are just so amazing and it was pretty clear that Melissa was not up to that level. In a pas de deux, the man is just a prop anyway.

I am enjoying much of the ballroom this year. Really, great choreography. And I always love Tabitha and Napoleon. It seemed sort of unfair for Philip to get hip hop twice.

First of all, I have a question: Who selects the costumes, the dancers or choreographers?

As I've previously mentioned, this is my first season of watching the show. I'm enjoying it a lot, but I really wish I would have started watching it a few years ago if people are in agreement that this season doesn't compare to the others!

I didn't turn it on last night until the middle of Randi and Evan's dance, so I missed the first two. I really liked their dance; they always seem to be enjoying themselves out on the dance floor. Plus, Evan is kind of from the neighborhood so I am slightly biased!

Melissa and Ade - I love the ballet and thought their dance was beautiful! Probably my favorite for the night.

Caitlin and Jason - What a bummer it would be to want to be taken seriously as a dancer, then have to perform something as ridiculous as that. I felt sorry for them.

Philip and Jeannine - I think they are a great pair and enjoyed their dance. I saw their performance last week and didn't even realize that Philip had the big hole in the seat of his pants! He reminds me of Ducky from Pretty in Pink:)

Vitolio and Karla: Nice job, but didn't wow me. I did think the dress change was pretty cool!

My guess is that Caitlin and Jason will go tonight.

Just love this show!!!!

So glad to see pointe on the show!

ITA...for all they praised her for the ballet, it really wasn't that great to me...I honestly didn't really like the choreography all that much--it didn't scream Romeo and Juliet to me at all.

I agree that I HATE that Phillip got hip hop twice already--there should be a rule to the randomness--no repeats within so many performances. And the ballet thing was so totally fixed, so why couldn't they change the hip hop?

I wish they would include the dance style lottery at the end of the show...

The choreographers--which made all of the comments last night VERY annoying to me!

Last season was AMAZING--especially for hip hop fans...I think it's one of the reasons we're all disappointed this year.

My favorites are Brandon and Kayla and I hope to see them dance together at some point. My favorite dance was the cha-cha but I enjoyed all of the dances except for the alien impregnation routine.

I don't have any that I really dislike but I'd sure like to see Phillip and Evan get a genre that is totally opposite of their own to see if they have the overall talent that I think Brandon has. It's hard to judge when Phillip has had 2 hip hops and Evan has had Broadway and Broadway-like routines.

I think Phillip getting a second hip hop draw was just as fixed as Melissa drawing the pas de deux.

Haven't we discussed the 'randomness' of the pull from a hat method in the past? There has been more than one instance thoughout the years of people getting a little too lucky with their draws.

And didn't Danny dance a pas de deux and so did Will and Kaytee. Maybe the difference is that Melissa actually danced en pointe?

mouseclick1 - the show producers pair the dancers at the beginning of the season. They stay in those pairs (unless eliminated) until the top 10 where they draw a new partner each week.

Each week the draw their style out of a hat. The show has a rotating group of A-list choreographers who design the routines and also serve as guest judges. A choreographer will not be in the 3rd judges chair on a night that they have a routine preformed.

Like in a normal dance performance, the choreographers work with the costume people to design the look of the piece. While I don't think the majority of the choreographers are completely designing costumes they do have a chunk of the input.

The dancers are just that....dancers. They have no input into the style, costume and choreographer. It isn't like American Idol where they can choose from a pre-selected list and pick their outfit with the help of a stylist.

They do wear their own choice of clothing for the results show and craft their own solos when needed.

This season for me is kinda boring in general. There are people I like but I'm not in love with anyone. I'm not excited for any dancers this season like I have been in the past. Nick, Melody, Benji, Donelle, Heidi, Lacey Jamile, Ryan, Allison, Dmitry, Chelsea, Twitch, and on and on.

I think season 2 is my favorite so far.

My favorites this year are definitely Brandon/Janette and Randi/Evan. They're the ones I look forward to seeing every week. Is there anything Brandon can't do?!! He amazes me! And he's such a cutie and a nice guy, I hope he wins. I really like the other three also, and hope they're the final 4.

I didn't like the ballet routine, but I don't like ballet to begin with. I can't believe this is the first time they've done ballet though! I can't say it was a set-up though, because Melissa's specialty is ballet and she has to get it at least once. For as little as I know about ballet, I thought she was great!

The true set-up was Phillip and Jeanine. I never liked Jeanine but liked Philip in the begining, and now he's just getting old. For some reason th producers want him to make it to the end, because regardless of how bad he is, they still tell people to vote. He can't do anything but hip-hop and the fact that they "rnadomly" got hip-hop again this week was so fake. They need to go soon.

If it was up to me, I'd send Carla and Kupono home tonight. Carla looks terrified and so uncomfortable throughout her whole dance, and Kupono just doesn't thrill me.

I guess I'm not the only one whop wonders how 'random' the draws really are.

You mean, more than usual? :rotfl:

Nigel said this was the first time they had a pas de deux on the show. I don't ever recall seeing anyone else do one in the past three seasons. It would be fun to see a dancer without ballet training get the pas de deux. Philip, for example :lmao:

I know Nigel said it but I don't think it was true! :rotfl:

Actually thanks to google I know it isn't true. Katee and Will DID do a pas de deux choreographed by Desmond Richardson! I knew I wasn't crazy. It wasn't en pointe. After further googling it seems clear that Katee and Will's (dance for 2) was more of a contemporary piece than a traditional ballet one. Maybe that is why they were calling Ade and Melissa's a "classical pas de deux."

I think, last season, that dance is one we were all talking about how the fact that Will pulled Desmond Richardson was a set up and that it had to be Katee as his partner because no one else could dance it. All the YouTube links have been removed (copyright.)

I also thought Danny did one but I can't imagine who would have partnered him on it so maybe I'm making that up.

Totally over Phillip - the Twitch of this season...no talent...go home.

Flame suit at the ready captain! ;)

I love Phillip and I think he is incredibly talented at what he does. His tango was horrible and the broadway number was not much better than passable. During it he looked like he felt like an idiot it didn't make the routine believable at all. He kills at hip hop when the choreographers use his strengths.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes the 1st time he is in the bottom 3. There hasn't been much, if any, growth and they look for that.

I don't think we can say that any of these dancers aren't talented.

My favorites last night: Kayla and Kupono, Brandon and Janette, and Phillip and Jeanine.

Poor Caitlin and Jason .. they've had some bad luck the past 3 weeks.. I think they will be in the bottom, and really need to show something special with their solos if they want to stay, because they were in the bottom the past 2 weeks in a row.

The pas de deux was just okay..nothing really special. And no surprise with who danced it.

Randi and Evan were just okay last night. Karla and Vitolio, also just okay for me. I don't really enjoy them as a couple.
